Maunaloa Shores 306 is a two bedroom condominium with a great ocean view. This third floor unit is nicely furnished and well-appointed, with upgraded kitchen and bathroom. You'll enjoy ocean views from the living room, lanai and one of the bedrooms. Located in the heart of Keaukaha, Hilo's recreational area, Maunaloa Shores is next door to one beautiful beach park and within a mile of numerous others. It's a very popular spot among visitors, and is great for short getaways and extended stays alike! There's a pool with lots of lounge chairs, free assigned parking, secure elevators, and a laundry room on every floor. Maunaloa Shores is just 4 miles from the historic Hilo downtown Bayfront area, and all the sights of the East side of the island, from the Kapoho tidepools to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, are within an hour's drive.

When you arrive, a tile floored entry way is just inside the door, with the kitchen to your right. The living room is directly ahead, with a sliding glass door to the lanai at the back of the unit. A hallway to the left leads to the bedrooms and bathroom.

The kitchen has been nicely updated with new counters and cabinets. The open design lets in lots of light and keeps you in the conversation while you prepare meals. There's an electric range, microwave oven, full size refrigerator freezer, as well as small appliances including a coffee maker, rice cooker, toaster, blender and tea kettle. You'll also find plenty of cookware, plates, cups, glasses and so on. All you need to bring is the food.

Just past the kitchen is a dining area, where a glass-topped dining table provides seating for 4. The living room is comfortably furnished with a plush sofa and coffee table. A hutch with TV, DVD player, and a CD player with radio sits opposite the sofa. Look inside the hutch for an assortment of games. The sliding glass door leads out to the lanai, where you can enjoy the views from a small table & chairs.

The ocean side bedroom has a queen bed. Large windows along the back wall maximize the ocean view, and are dressed with heavy shades for those mornings when you want to sleep in. A small desk faces the window and looks out over the trees and ocean – a perfect spot to set up your laptop if you need to get some work done during your stay. A dresser and large closet with plenty of hangers provide ample storage space. Nightstands with reading lamps frame the bed on either side.

The second bedroom is furnished with two twin beds. There's another closet in this bedroom, as well as a large 6-drawer dresser and mirror, nightstand and reading lamp. The full bathroom separates the two bedrooms. It is recently renovated with counters and cabinets that match the kitchen. There's a bath tub with shower, and plenty of fluffy towels.

Unit 306 at Maunaloa Shores is a relaxed, affordable, and well-located home base for exploring Hilo and the entire east side of the Big Island. Extended stays of up to three months are welcome, and we offer some great monthly rates. You'll find everything you need to make yourself at home during your Hilo visit!

Great Location

Unit was as expected as we have stayed in another unit in the past. Very clean and convenient. TV is outdated with poor picture quality. Just received my credit card statement and there was an additional $54 charge from Home Away. This was not authorized and their customer service is impossible to contact. I used their web site to find this rental unit.

Great location, very poor condition and customer service. Other reviews 2014. Unusual

Four of us ladies rented this condo during Merrie Monarch at top price. First off to get ready, we needed to iron our dresses for the events. NO IRON or Ironing board. We bought an iron and left it in the condo for future guests. What made all of the following problems frustrating was that the number provided in the check in instructions and in the condo was busy the entire trip. We were never able to reach the owner. The manager of the overall complex basically said there was nothing he could do for us. 1) Only one wash cloth for 4 women. 2) no starter bath soaps 3) only one small shampoo starter. 4) Beach chairs rusted out. Would not even want to touch them. 5) The side of the refrigerator completely rusted. 6) ceiling fan does not work. 7) Bedroom curtains filthy. 8) All wood furniture rippled and stained. 9) lanai furniture rickety. 10) walls dirty 11) kitchen cabinets so high we had to use step stool to even reach cups and glasses. Not safe for guests. 12) Bathroom tub needs grouting. large gap. 13) Lamps rusty. 14) Dining chair legs loose. Would have communicated some of these to the owner rather than publicly but unable to reach them. Positives. The view. location. Security features of locked front gate after hours and key required for elevator. Wifi was good.

Owner's Response: It’s very rare that we have to say this, but this review is COMPLETELY inaccurate. This is what we in the industry call a “revenge review” – where a guest is upset about something and sets out to write a review with the intention of damaging a property’s reputation. I would implore any guest considering a reservation to read the other reviews before making a decision. For those who wish to read a more detailed rebuttal, here’s the scoop: We received a call from this guest on April 19th at 3:34 PM (Our policy has always been to keep logs of every call we receive or make, just in case!). The guest had arrived and found that the condo did not have an iron. A reservationist took the call, and then checked with management, who instructed them to please let the guest know that irons are not on the list of standard amenities that we as a booking agency are authorized to replace / provide. The guest received a call back at 3:42 PM on the same day with this explanation. As a small business with limited staff, we have a list of what we, and the owners of the properties we represent, agree are “necessary” amenities – important cooking items, small appliances (coffee makers, microwaves), items for internet and TV service, and so on. But to buy & deliver all items a guest might want is beyond the scope of our operations. Properties always have items that have been provided by an owner or left by previous guests, and guests are welcome to make use of all that they find. If this had happened at any other time of year than during the Merrie Monarch Festival – the absolute peak travel week for Hilo – we probably would have bought and delivered an iron anyway. But at this time of year, it just was not possible. Walmart is 5 minutes from this condo, and the guest could have picked up an iron and we would have reimbursed her. But we never heard from her again after the two phone calls. We CERTAINLY never heard any of these other issues, as we would have sent our maintenance team right away to investigate and make any necessary repairs. I was in this unit taking new photos two days before the guest arrived. You can see the side of the fridge in one of the photos, and if you blow it up and look closely, you can see a little bit of rust on the side. This is very representative of the level of honesty portrayed by this review, which states that the fridge is “completely rusted”. Read the rest of the reviews and check out the super low price before ruling out this great condo!

Hawaii holiday vacation rentals was a hard company to work with they were never there when you called. We showed up late (5-6 pm) and were lost and called for help and they did not call back until the next day. We got help from some friendly people walking by. Every time but once I got sent to their answering service and I was calling within normal business hours. I would only use this company again if I knew exactly where and what I was doing and did not need any communication with them.
