About Christine Kersen
My husband Joe has lived in Ouray since 1977. I moved there in 1995 and instantly fell in love with the town. We ran a Construction company from 1997 to 2012 when my husband decided to finish his education and obtain his LPN license. I have been a real estate broker since 2007 and we have 5 great kids. We moved to Montrose in 2013 to be closer to work. Luckily Ouray is not a far drive and we still enjoy seeing all of our friends and family in the area.

Hooray for Ouray
This little cabin was just right for our needs for a weeklong stay in this lovely mountain community. We noted that the owner had addressed some issues relating to the stairs mentioned in a previous negative review on this site. My wife and I are active senior citizens who found no problems with using the stairs with caution as advertised. The bed and the couch were new and nice. (Couch is a large sectional and not a pullout bed.) The bathroom was clean and the kitchen amenities were adequate. We also appreciated the outdoor grill and seating area. The communication with the owner was easy as she responded in a timely way when needed. For its location the price is very reasonable. Our stay was in late June with nice cool temperatures, and we utilized the cozy wood burning stove. The only thing I would add for improvement would be a better fan in the loft for times when it is hot. We enjoyed all that Ouray and the surrounding area has to offer.
Great place to stay in Ouray
Have stayed in this cabin on two separate occasions. Quick walk to town, with trails nearby. One warning is that the stairs to the loft are a little bit steep!
filthy, unsafe, furnished with tail-end of a garage sale
This rustic cabin is in need of a serious cleaning and update.
When we arrived the cabin was very warm. Ouray had had unusually warm weather. We discovered that we could only open 2 small windows because they were the only ones with screens. There was one filthy fan on a stand in the corner and it barely moved any air. When I called the owner she said she would send her handyman to replace them. He came at 8 the next night to replace 2 of them. He never put a screen on the bathroom window. The owner admitted that she had earlier bought the materials to replace the screens but "never got around to doing it." Shows she is not very concerned with her renters.
She explains in the description of the cabin that the stairs to the loft are steep. What she doesn't explain is that the unevenly-spaced risers are 13-16 inches apart. I had to hold onto the rails and literally pull myself up to get to the loft. It was like climbing a ladder with every other rung missing. It became evident that using the loft would be difficult and unsafe to use. There was no way we would have been able to get our luggage safely to the loft. I would not have wanted to use it anyway because there was a thick layer of dust around the perimeter of the room.
We decided to use the hide-a-bed downstairs, where the only bathroom is located. In order to open the bed we had to turn the couch. When we moved it we found potato chips, candy, dust bunnies, and sand. There also was no furniture to use to unpack our things.
The kitchen is in need of repair and in need of refurnishing. The cabinets look like the wood is rotting. When I tied to open a drawer the front fell off. The stove, both top and oven, look like it has NEVER been cleaned. Like I said, it looks like it was furnished with the tail-end of a garage sale.
The faucet in the bathroom leaked continuously. The floor of the tub was slippery and tilted too much. The louvered doors to conceal the washer/dryer and hot water heater were caked with grimy dust. The area behind the doors was just filthy.
To the owners credit, we were offered a full refund if we wanted to stay elsewhere. It was late Sunday afternoon, we had been driving for 2 days, we had no internet, we were unfamiliar with Ouray, and we had a dog. Finding a new place would have been very difficult so we decided to stay. It is not the owner's fault but know that the neighborhood dogs all start barking around 6:30 AM. BTW, the river path is not near this cabin.
Cute Cabin with good location but needs some TLC!
The location and outside appearance of the cabin are very appealing. We enjoyed cooking out on the grill and spending time outside. However, it was a warm week when we visited and there were windows without screens. The loft bedroom had no screen and it was very warm and uncomfortable without an open window. In addition, the stairs to the loft are not safe as the risers are too far apart. The cabin also needs some TLC and deep cleaning. The cookware is in dire need of replacement as well.
Great cabin and location.
Perfect place for my wife and I along with our dog. The cabin offers quite a bit of privacy and is cozy as named. We enjoyed the river trail nearby and closeness to town. The cabin is nicely equipped and had everything we needed.
Great place ! Wonderful location, owner is very responsive.
