Overview

About the property

Bungalow; 3 Bedrooms; 1 Bath; Sleeps 5

This bungalow is a colorful cottage that is bright, cheery, and comfortably furnished. It is located on a side street in a very friendly neighborhood with similar architecture. The cottage is a vintage Sears & Roebuck bungalow built in the 1930's with original features and has an updated kitchen and conveniences to make your stay comfortable and easy. An enclosed porch on the front of the house provides additional living space for reading a book, playing games, or just relaxing. The private back deck provides a wonderful space for entertaining, grilling, or just enjoying a quiet early-morning coffee, afternoon gathering, or evening sunset. The back yard is fenced in so your dog can walk in and out of the house and off the deck while still being safe and enclosed.

This friendly neighborhood is located within an easy walk (2½ blocks) to downtown shops, restaurants, harbor, library, grocery store, post office, beach, village green, and much more. The village neighborhood area is a great place to walk, run, or bike. A YMCA is located just half a mile from the house. There are numerous areas to hike, and lakes and the ocean are very close by. Additional activities for both adults and children are also close by.

About Alleson Bixler

I grew up in Camden and moved back to the area just after college and have lived, played, and worked here ever since. I love this area and love the idea of sharing it with others!

Alleson Bixler purchased this bungalow in 2014

Why Alleson Bixler chose Camden

I have loved this quiet little neighborhood just minutes from the bustle of downtown Camden for as long as I've been here (i.e. my whole life!). The quaint bungalow cottages on this street, built back in the 30's when Camden was a mill town, hold such a rich history. I feel lucky to have this lovely, quiet place to offer folks who want to explore all there is to see in this beautiful part of Maine.

What makes this bungalow unique

This bungalow cottage is located very close to downtown, the harbor, and neighborhood park, and is an easy walk to all Camden has to offer. You'll have a sense of being 'home' on your vacation!

My husband and I are avid hikers and have been going to Maine in the fall for our "woods" fix for many years. We happened upon Alleson's bungalow in 2015, returned in 2016, and are booked already for next fall. The other reviewers do a great job of highlighting the cottage's fine points, so I'll just echo a few: Very clean! Amply equipped! Tastefully decorated! Quiet neighborhood! Friendly, kind, accommodating owner! If you like to hike/take long walks, the cottage is very close to Camden Hills State Park, Bald and Ragged Mountains, Beech Forest, and about 1.5 hours to Acadia. After a long day of hiking, it was a great pleasure to return to such a cozy, comfortable cottage, pop into town for dinner, then drift off to sleep in a wonderfully appointed, cushy bed.

A treasure!

  • 5 of 5

Have you ever found a treasure you just wanted to keep for yourself? 16 Jacobs Avenue is that treasure for my husband and me. We spent three summer months in this aptly described “charming bungalow” and fell in love with it enough to abandon our Southern roots and book through the winter. We didn’t want to leave! So when we rank Alleson’s house at the top of our list, we’ll try to avoid telling you that it surpasses countless vacation rentals across the U.S. and Europe we’ve experienced. We’ll attempt to keep from you that living at Jacobs Avenue is like living in a curated house, with everything from furnishings to artwork to the vintage dinnerware (and plenty of it) selected to match and complement the house’s meticulously preserved character. If you make us mention the joys of walking to town or the beach (each less than four blocks away), we’ll try to keep mum. And don’t expect us to report on how warm, responsive, and helpful Alleson is. Do we really write about someone we now consider a friend in the middle of a vacation rental review?!

Total perfection!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our standard poodle Phoebe and I just enjoyed two wonderful weeks in this charming cottage. I can honestly say that it is the cleanest and most well equipped rental house we have ever experienced. Alleson has done everything to make you feel as though you are home. Based on past experience, I can say she is one of a kind! The house is tucked away on a quiet side street just a short stroll to downtown Camden and an easy drive to everything you need. Alleson provides a ton of information (almost a kiosk!) about the area and things to do. The fenced yard provides a spacious and safe play area for children and pets. Phoebe loved it! We can’t wait to return next year.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? My husband and I (and our golden retriever Maggie) are annual visitors to Camden, and have rented at other locations, but the minute we walked in this lovely cottage knew we were home. Not only was Alleson, the owner, warm and welcoming, but the house was so clean and beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need (and then some). Maggie (and we) loved the fenced-in, shady back yard and deck, and the location was perfect - easy walk to the Harbor with its wide array of shops & restaurants, short jog to the YMCA, quick drive to the grocery store. Great, quiet neighborhood with friendly folks, too. We'll be back!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This cute little house served us as a great home-base to explore the area. Alleson was a great host, she was extremely helpful with all the questions we had. The interior of the house is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Having rented many houses throughout the years, this was probably the cleanest, we ever saw. We enjoyed the porch and the fireplace in the evenings. Athough the house is located on a very quiet street, everything in Camden is walking distance which we loved. The house has a patio and a little garden in the back where you can sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. We highly recommend this place for couples or small families.

Amazing house

  • 5 of 5

Perfect little house. We stayed for 5 weeks and loved it. Very clean & comfortable. Kitchen stocked with everything you need. Beautifully maintained Sears Bungalow. Loved the front porch and the back deck. Fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. Excellent quiet street with lovely neighbors. Just a few blocks to beautiful Camden harbor and downtown with restaurants and shops.

There are excellent art galleries in Camden, Rockland and throughout the Midcoast area as well as lots of antiquing. In the winter there is a local downhill ski area with cross-country skiing trails.
