Goleen Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Sea Views, near Beach, sleeps 10, 1 hect private site with sea access & WI-FI

This is a simply stunning stone Cottage located right on the Wild Atlantic Way with it's own WI-FI. It is beautiful both inside and out. The interior retains 'a country atmosphere' as it consists of white washed walls and extensive use of wood. The Cottage sleeps up to 10 and is ideal for two families. Two of the bedrooms are en suite and there are three bathrooms in total. The kitchen is very large and is fully equipped with all conveniences. Our location is fabulous with total privacy on our 1 Hectare site plus you have access within 300m to the sea for fishing and 300m to a local beach with lots of shellfish. The views are wonderful to the Fastnet Lighthouse and of Toormore Bay from the house. Schull is only 8 km and Goleen is only 6 kms away. The house is fantastic for children with so much land, wildlife plus we now have a fantastic Swing, Slide and See Saw for the kids. Beautiful safe Ballyrisode beach is only 2 km away, with its abundant supply of Rock pools for children to explore. A simply wonderful holiday is assured!

We have recently made some great changes to Reen Cottage. We have utilised the kitchen area better by adding a two seater couch and a single seater armchair to make the area so much more comfortable. This will be a very popular area at all times of the day as the seats are right beside the double patio doors which open on to the patio and have great views. Wea have also added Fuschia headging and created a garden area whilst adding swings and a slide for kids.

Our hallway downstairs has been revamped with tasteful mirrors, a beautiful wooden bench and rugs and lighting whilst the sitting room which is located upstairs for the views has been hugely upgraded with a flat screen TV, new rugs, lighting, new seats and a fantastic wicker lounger to relax in and enjoy the views of the Atlantic ocean.

Quite simply this is one of the best houses in the West Cork area.

About Ross Barry

This land belonged to my parents since 1961 and they owned a separate property closeby. Following my Father's death in 1994 I purchased the land from my Mum and we built our dream West Cork home on the site which we have enjoyed for so many years now. We even added a boat two years ago to get the maximum fishing and touring and installed our own mooring closeby which can be used by guests. We even catch our own Lobsters and Shrimp!

Ross Barry purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Ross Barry chose County Cork

When you see the views from the rear of the cottage and experience the sheer peace and quiet you will understand why we chose here. Add to the fact that you can stroll out of the cottage down to the beach only 300 metres away and collect your dinner when the tide is out! Clams, Cockles, Razor Fish and we have even found Oysters! I have spent nearly 50 years holidaying in this exact area and love it as much now as I did when I was a kid. We even have WI-FI

What makes this cottage unique

Location, location, location! Fishing from the beach, fishing from the rocks, peace and quiet, privacy, luxury, stunning views, beautiful ocean, great walks from the Cottage and lovely shops and pubs in nearby Schull. Our own secure WI-FI just added.

Amazing House in Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We have two kids, aged 6 and 2, and we stayed at Reen Cottage for several weeks. We absolutely loved it and didn't want to leave. From the top floor, the views out over the ocean, Fastnet Rock, and the castle are just breathtaking! We loved walking down to the sea out the back of the house, and the beach, just a short walk down the road. At the beach, the kids were entertained for hours catching all sorts of sea creatures. Oh, and the neighbors are just great! This is a quiet place to relax and unwind - we loved it, and we will be back.

Very nice house, we recommend it!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of six adults and one dog - we rented Reen Cottage for one week in April 2014 which is "off season". We found plenty to keep us occupied in the West Cork area enjoying relaxing in Baltimore, mountain drives of the Healy Pass and Caha Pass (narrow roads) and the lovely village of Glengarriff. Three of our party went whale watching - all this was easily accessible by car. The house itself is worth experiencing with the downstairs located in part upstairs to facilitate the views across the water. The house is equipped with all mod cons including dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and sky TV. We didn't cook in the cottage but enjoyed the restaurants in Schull instead. Schull is a welcoming village with some beautiful walks and boasts an outdoors adult gym. The cottage itself is set back from the road which meant our little dog was away from traffic but the neighbouring cattle had a few conversations with him. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting West Cork.

Reen Cottage is located between Schull & Goleen in an area of spectacular natural beauty right on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. We are 16 km from Mizen Head which is Ireland's most Southerly point and Europe's most westerly point. The next stop is USA! Water Sports, walking and Fishing are popular pastimes, with a selection of superb Sea Food restaurants. There are also 14 pubs within a 10 km radius of the Cottage. You can even walk 300 m to the sea from Reen Cottage and fish off the rocks! Reen Cottage retains a wonderful maritime atmosphere because of its beautiful views and proximity to the sea. Imagine catching your own fish behind Reen Cottage and then barbequing them on our private terrace!! Areas worth seeing locally are Barley Cove, Mizen Head, Crookhaven, Bantry, Schull, Goleen, Garnish Island, Cape Clear Island, Castletownbere, Sheeps Head and Ahakista. Further afield, Kinsale, Kenmare, Blarney Castle, Glandore are all within a 2 hour drive by car. What a wonderful place to holiday!

Other Activities: Boat hire, hill walking

Golf: There are two Golf Clubs in the area. Bantry Golf Club is excellent and is 26 km from Reen Cottage. Skibbereen Golf Club is 33 km away. All the famous Golf Clubs such as Killarney, Ballybunion etc. would be about 2/3 h drive away.
