Chesil Cove Cottage has now been refurbished and we are excited to announce that it now offers superior accommodation with a new kitchen and extended living/dining area, together with a shower/wet room downstairs. This in addition to the current lounge, which will remain the same. The cottage is located approx. 100m from Chesil Beach and was built in 1788. It has off-road parking. It is furnished to a good standard with all the comforts of home. Lounge with colour TV/DVD. Gas central heating throughout and a cosy gas fire in the lounge for those chilly nights. The sparkling new Kitchen-Dining area now boasts dishwasher, electric cooker, fridge freezer, and microwave, with a wall mounted flat screen TV and classy oak flooring. Dining room seats 6. A wet-room with hanging rail for damp clothes. First floor has a double bedroom, one bathroom, one shower room, two toilets. Second floor has double bedroom and twin bedroom.
Great position for birdwatching, sailing, diving, snorkelling, canoeing/kayaking wind/kite surfing or simply a family break.
The Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy is a 2 minute drive, 5 minute cycle or 10 minute walk from the cottage. The same beach is widely used for kite surfing/wind surfing.
The property details are accurate. This place has a nice living space, kitchen and dining areas downstairs; large bedroom, bathroom, and shower room on second floor; and two large bedrooms on the top floor. All the linens were provided. Perfect for our family of 6 with two kids sharing a large bed, two in singles, and our own room on the second floor.
Although the cottage is an old structure, the inside is contemporary and well-maintained. We didn't have any problems at all. It is a good set up for self catering where you are interested in using the amenities.
The owner was very helpful and responsive. Nothing was hidden when we discussed the terms.
I would highly recommend this location to anyone interested in spending time on the South coast (UK) near an attractive resort like community (Weymouth) with many opportunities for hiking, biking, sailing, and kite flying.
The coast trail extends all the way around Portland Island and was easy enough for our 8 year old to walk the entire distance (we cut the trail in half by walking across the island in the middle - 6 miles walk for us). There are two restaurants within very short walking distance and on the beach. These places have marvelous food and friendly staff. A well run Co-Operative grocery store is a short uphill walk and provided most of everything we needed.
Probably the only reason we are rating it Good instead of Excellent was because our bed mattress (on the second floor) was a little lumpy and soft (hard on my back) but all the other beds were perfect.
My five friends and I arrived in Weymouth on our first night in England. After our long flight and full day of sightseeing, it was nice to finally feel "at home."
Our stone cottage was perfect and Maddy couldn't have been more hospitable. A bottle of wine awaited us, and even though we don't drink, I thought it was a very welcoming gesture. Clear directions were provided on how to operate various appliances (which was handy for us newcomers.) We made dinner, chatted, and slept comfortably.
The house is cozy, nicely decorated, and a short walk to the beach. Maddy couldn't have been more flexible or accomodating while I was making my arrangements. She kindly answered many e-mails and questions prior to our arrival and allowed us a later check-out the next day. We appreciated the chance to sleep in and it helped us feel refreshed the rest of our trip.
I can't wait to return to England. Next time, I'll bring my husband and my favorite stone cottage in Weymouth will be our first stop!
You are ideally situated to explore the Jurassic coastline and hunt for fossils or discover the wealth of all year attractions the area has to offer including Monkey World, Portland Castle, Weymouth's Deep Sea Adventure and much more. The popular seaside town of Weymouth is just 6 miles with its sandy beach, high street shops, pubs, cinema and harbour where you could enjoy a day trip to the Channel Islands on a fast ferry. The cottage is also perfectly situated if you are involved with sailing at the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy, one of the closest cottages to this venue.
