Overview

Aveyron House Rental Photos and Description

A haven of tranquillity for walkers and nature lovers

The little hamlet of Blanc overlooks the beautiful Sanctus valley. Hawks, deer and wild boar roam its chestnut woodland, the pure air and mountain streams allow rare plants to thrive, and with no ground light you can still see the Milky Way.

The village consists of the remains of a 9th century chateau, a church and several stone houses with 8 hectares of grounds overlooking the valley.

Blanc lies in the middle of two regional parks, the Grands Causses and the Haut Languedoc, whose landscape is among the most beautiful and unspoilt in France and is therefore ideal walking country. There are several walks, with a specially edited walking guide, which leave from the village, lasting between 45 minutes and 6 hours.

The region is widely recognised for its wide range of outdoor activities. Horse and donkey riding are available locally, while for those in search of water, there's an abundance of streams and rivers, the breathtaking Tarn and Aveyron gorges, a swimming pond in the next village, and the Med's only 80km away.

There's no shortage of culture either: at hand are the historic chateaux and bastides (walled towns) of the Rouergue, the Templar and Hospitaller sites of the Larzac, and the Cistercian abbey of Sylvanes, with its respected summer festival of sacred music.

For refreshment, try the local delicacies: the famous cheese of Roquefort, charcuterie from Lacaune and wines of Faugeres.

Need more inspiration? Just take a look at what's on offer on the sites of the three neighbouring counties: the Aveyron, Tarn and Hérault.

There are also occasional activities in the village, especially during the summer.

Details for The Schoolhouse 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 5, 1 Half Bathrooms

This two-bedroom restored stone cottage faces across the village to the chateau. It's comfortably furnished in a contemporary style in wood and terracotta. Front and rear terraces offer the choice of spectacular village views or wooded seclusion. The bedrooms are normally set up with either one kingsize or two single beds. Two doubles are available on request, as is an extra single bed or child's cot. In summer, guests have the use of a large private pool 10 minutes' walk away which is shared between all the gites. A wood burner and electric radiators keep the house warm and cosy when it's cold outside. See our website (link below( for further details.

A perfect place to relax and rest.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here! David and Carlos are perfect hosts; they really made us feel welcome and they are extremely knowledgeable about the local area. The Schoolhouse is perfect for a family of four; there is plenty of room both in and outside the house. Everything is well maintained with the hammocks dotted around the place are a nice touch. The kids loved the swimming pool which like everything else is clean, spacious and well maintained. I cannot recommend this place enough; it really is a wonderful place made all the better by David and Carlos' hospitality.

Le bonheur à l'état pur !

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

MAGIQUE

  • 5 of 5

Inoubliable !

  • 5 of 5
