Ocean View is a growing rural community known for its star filled nighttime skies. You won't find heavy traffic or bright city even a traffic light. It is conveniently located halfway between the wonders of the Kilauea Volcano and the tourist crowds of Kailua-Kona. There are many great adventures for day trip excursions including white, black & green sand beaches and the active Kilauea Volcano. Along your journeys you can stop at local farmers’ markets, visit coffee mills or a Buddhist temple and experience much of the old Hawaii flavor… or as we call it, the “real” Hawaii'.

About Ron Gall and Karen Powell
Ron was born and raised in Oregon. Karen was raised in Michigan before moving to Oregon. We retired and moved to the Big Island in 2011. We finished building Hale Luana in June of 2014. It is a labor of love and we will always be adding landscaping and gardens for our guests' enjoyment. We love meeting our guests who have come from around the world and sharing the beauty of our island paradise.
Ron Gall and Karen Powell purchased this Bungalow in 2011
Why Ron Gall and Karen Powell chose Hawaiian Ocean View
We bought this property because the weather is perfect at this 2200 Ft elevation; the view of the Pacific Ocean & South Point; and the multitude of mature ornamental and fruit trees and plants. The property is located in a small town yet within access to so many island attractions. Easy day trips include South Point, Kula Kai Caverns, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Akaka Falls, Umauma Falls and City of Refuge as well as Kona and Hilo.
What makes this Bungalow unique
You can spend time at the beaches, Kilauea Volcano, botanical gardens, farmers' markets, or explore lava tube caverns. Ocean View has good eateries, grocery stores, business office, gift store and other amenities without the traffic and crowds of Kailua-Kona or Hilo.

This was a great place to get away from the Business of Kona...
A great peaceful honeymoon
We had an incredible stay. Ron and Karen were amazing hosts.
Coffee on the deck in the morning was the most peaceful way to start your day.
I highly recommend and would go back for sure !!
Beautiful, secluded home away from home with wonderful hosts
Despite a short 2 night stay and limited interaction, Ron and Karen made us feel more than welcome in their sweet little ohana. Wonferfully decorated and well equipped, this little secluded spot is the perfect place to wake up with a cup of your gifted coffee on the lanai surrounded by the sound of various birds (including a very persistent rooster next door) and the smells of their beautiful gardens. I wish we could have spent more time here to explore the grounds and the surrounding area. Their recommendations for food and activities were spot on! The only "problem" we encountered is that we couldn't connect to the wi-fi, but as we both had data we didn't even bring it up during our stay. I can't wait to come back to stay! Mahalo, Ron and Karen!
Kristin and Ian were great guests that anyone would be delighted to host. They are a friendly and fun loving and wish we'd had more time to visit with them.
Mahalo for letting us know about the WIFI as we had just changed our provider and forgot to ask so we'll be getting a better booster.
We'll be happy to have you stay here again on your next trip to the Big Island.
Good quiet place on lava hillside. Far to beach but lots to see in the area.
I wish we could have more time at this little hide-a-way! Ron and Karen were gracious hosts, making sure we had everything we needed and more.
Tranquil and relaxing get away with fabulous hosts.
Zen like ohana that feels welcoming and cozy. The lanai overlooks a lush yard with many birds coming into the bird feeder. Karen and Ron were friendly, welcoming, helpful and accommodating. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen well appointed. Great complimentary coffee. The separate shower/ bathroom was nice and was fitting to the experience. No dressers, but suitcase stands worked fine. Good location for visiting Hawaii Volcano NP. Would recommend this place and would stay here again on a return visit.
Wonderful guests. Would welcome them back any time. Didn't have much time to visit, but shared some short talk stories and look forward to more when they return. Lovely sisters, energetic and outgoing personalities. Left our ohana very clean; would look forward to a return visit and recommend them to other hosts.
There are many opportunities for your island adventures. A "must see" is the Kilauea Volcano for day hikes, bike tours and seeing the awesome glow of the lava lake after dark. The Kula Kai caverns are just ten minutes away. South Point, Green Sands Beach, Punaluu Black Sand Beach and Ho'okena Beach Park are all within a 45 minute drive.
