This has become our home away from home for the past three summers. The wonderful weather & great mt. views continue to bring us back year after year. A month is still not long enough! The house is warm and inviting and sitting out on the front porch watching the sunset is heaven!

About Sherry and Tom Flowe
Tom and Sherry Flowe own this special slice of heaven that is nestled between Sugar Mt and Banner Elk. We are a short drive to the beautiful NC Mts (Charlotte area) so we try to visit as often as possible. Our grandkids (Lauren and Grant) absolutely love the cozy cabin where we have an early family Christmas celebration every year and of course the kids love to sled, ski, and play in the snow. Because this is a second family home for us, you will feel 'right at home'. We have created a family friendly atmosphere and unlike most rentals, our cabin feels like a real home! Many of our guests have continued to visit yearly. Although we are a short 3-5 minute drive to Sugar Mt, restaurants, and all of the amenities the area has to offer, you will feel totally secluded as there are only two other cabins below our's. Our hill is perfect for sledding in the winter, and our oversized rear deck is ideal for a cook-out where you are surrounded by nothing but Mother Nature. We look forward to seeing you soon!!! Call 704-575-2351 to speak with the owners directly!
Sherry and Tom Flowe purchased this Cabin in 2002

You can quickly drive to fabulous restaurants, grocery stores, Sugar Mt, and great little shops. PLEASE NOTE THAT RATES VARY DEPENDING ON NUMBER OF OCCUPANTS, LENGTH OF STAY, AND SEASON!

Sugar Meadows is sweet but needs some TLC
Sugar Meadows is a very cute cabin in a great location with a lovely view. Most everything you need is there. The bed in the master is very comfortable with nice, soft sheets. The master bath is roomy though there is only a tub/shower combo - still very adequate and good water pressure. We didn't use the 2 upstairs bedrooms, but they were good sized and shared a nice average size bathroom. The kitchen is big enough for 2 people to easily get around each other and is nicely stocked with dishes and some basic items etc. We came prepared to cook, but my husband wouldn't use the frying pan even for for eggs because it wasn't usable in his opinion. Not all the cookware was that bad. The living area is roomy and has a great view, and the couch is big though honestly it isn't very comfortable. The wood burning fireplace is very enjoyable, but naturally it smells a little smokey as soon as you walk in the door. (You will need to bring your own firewood, but can buy it at the Lowe's near the turn to get to the cabin.) Easily fixed by letting some air blow through. My overall impression is that this is a delightful cabin, but it needs a little TLC. The plastic window blinds and lace curtains are very dusty, especially upstairs. The quilt on one of the twin beds is stained and looks really gross. The baseboards and walls are dusty where boards meet, and there are cobwebs in many ceiling corners. I also noticed that it looks like the furniture needs to be moved and cleaned under. The master bedroom and bath could especially benefit from a serious spring cleaning. If we had the time, I would have taken a Swiffer to it, lol. This cabin has tremendous potential if given a good refresh/cleaning. Don't be deterred from staying there- the important things like toilets, baths, kitchen were clean, and it's size, view, and location can not be beat! The Flowes are very easy to work with, too, and overall it is a very sweet cabin! Certainly a lovely place to stay for a quiet weekend getaway or a week of family fun. It has tremendous potential if a deck with hot tub and outdoor fireplace were added to the side to take advantage of the view, and the back was landscaped a bit where the slope is steep, muddy and eroding. Seems like I have Sugar Meadows on my mind! I'll never forget waking up to look out and see the snow covering everything like a sprinkling of powdered sugar! I'm sure it's absolutely lovely in every season, I'd love to be able to enjoy it year round!
I thought the property was very cozy friendly and had everything needed
We stayed for the weekend near our daughters college. It was a wonderful family weekend and a couple of friends came by as well. The property was inviting cozy and very enjoyable. Had the feel of home and had everything we needed. Its in a beautiful place and had great views. I wish i had found this place a couple years earlier as i would have rented it before this trip. The owners were very responsive and available for any questions. I will also say that a lot of these properties kill you with added fees and charges. NOT this owner. It was clearly stated nightly fee plus taxes. No add ons except the cleaning lady which was very fair based on number of guests. My family had a wonderful experience with this property.
This cabin was the perfect fit for us and our 3 huskies. It wasn't very hard to get to and the view of the mountains was beautiful. It's about 20 minutes from Grand Father Mt., Sugar Mt., Beech Mountain, Linville Falls, and Julian Price Memorial Park. Downtown Banner Elk is adorable and we highly recommend Bayou Smokehouse & Grill. Food was delicious!
Only negative thing is that the wifi didn't work our entire 5 days there. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience and Sherry (the owner) is very nice.
Needs updating and cleaning!
I am not one to leave negative or bad reviews, but this stay warrants it!
1. This home is not what I would consider clean for a rental. Yes I know and I am aware that there is a high turn around, people coming and going and this is a decent size home, but they could do a quarterly deep clean where they get the dust from the walls, in the corners, the animal hair, the grease and grime feeling all over the kitchen. I had to wash every dish we used before cooking or eating. Our sheets on the king size bed, were dirty, not washed! There was human hair, animal hair, debris and dirty all over them and the pillows. I have dogs and long hair, when I wash my sheets, I don't have hardly any hair from myself or them ALL over the sheets! The bathroom and shower in the master was disgusting with dust and dirt everywhere. The floor, the tub, the sinks, even the toilet! We didn't use upstairs bc it was just my husband and myself with our 18 month old.
2. This house needs major updates. My major thing, I sat on the couch and hit wood! Why? Bc this thing is so old and used I wouldn't even let my dogs sleep on it! You could literally see the wood showing under the cushions! Not comfy or safe! The kitchen, while the oven, dishwasher and refrigerator all seem updated, the pots, pans, plates, cups, silverware, etc were mismatched and disgusting! I know when I leave a rental, I make sure to clean everything I used, not that everyone does. But the pots and pans are chipping Teflon, the silverware had dried food on them, the plates had a grime on them. Time to throw them out!
Lastly, if you go during snow, even with 4 wheel drive, you are likely to slip and slide on ice once the snow has been packed down with such a great incline to get to the cabin. The cabin in located off a gravel road not salted or taken care of during this type of weather! We had to end our trip early bc we knew we couldn't even leave to get more food let alone all the other things we had planned bc by the time we got back, it would be even slicker! I attempted to contact the owners several times about this and if someone would be out to clear the roads! After no response, we decided to head home. Its been over 48 hours but still no response by phone, text or email. So hopefully if you have a problem, you can handle it on your own bc they were no help.
This cabin is a nice location if you can look past the rest, and very roomy. But we will not be returning.
These renters left the day after they arrived because they were afraid to drive in the snow and ice!
Our cabin is very clean, the sheets are always clean, the couch is fairly new, the dishwasher is new and cleans the dishes very well. In all of our years as owners of this cabin, we have NEVER seen a review such as this. We guarantee that the cabin will be clean and welcoming to all of our guests!!!
These particular gguests didn't even stay for more than one day at the cabin because they were upset about the snow on the road, so I am assuming they are trying to find other things to complain about. They weren't even there long enough to know anything about sheets, towels, dishes etc. it is very disheartening that someone would be so unkind, rude and untruthful!
BTW, we do have snow removed during the winter but there is nothing that can be done about icing overnight
Plus, it is NOT true that we didn't text about the ice on the road! This person is indeed impossible to please
The renters that are currently staying at the cabin just called to make reservations for the summer because they love it so much!
We loved staying at this beautiful home. The view of the mountains was spectacular with the fall colors. The house was clean and had what we needed. It was a perfect size for 3 adults and 3 kids. We will keep this house in mind again for future stays.
fantastic view and a warm, friendly house
Looking forward to staying here again.
