Magic Sands

  • 2 of 5

WE enjoyed our stay here. We stayed for 3 weeks. The condo its self really needs updating. It has a lot of things that need repaired and fixed. The covers on the recliners were old dirty and did not stay on. The shower barley works. TV wires just waded up and all over the place. I staightened them out and wound them up so they loked better. Very old furnishings. It also needs some deep cleaning. There was not extra anything in this condo, not trash bags, toilet, paper or any thing others had left. We have stayed at many condos on the big island and found that odd.The best part of this condo is the Lanai . We spent al lot of our time out there. You can see dolphin's, turtles, whales and amazing sunsets. The patio table base is rusted off, so we couldn't move the table, and there wasn't a lot of the furniture that the pictures show.

We did have a couple of issues while there and the owner was very fast at getting back with us and getting them taking care of. The view great the condo not our favorite.

Wonderful view, bring a portable shower

  • 3 of 5

This condo is located next to White Sands Beach which is one of the only beaches in the area. Be ready for lots of noise and lots of people, so if you want quiet and tranquility this is not the place. The lanai is stunning, best in the complex. One thing to keep in mind, the sound of waves crashing sounds is wonderful, but remember it is 24 hours a day. Also if you have a problem with the condo, expect no response from the management company. The hot water barely worked, so we could not turn on much of the cold water. This provided no water pressure, so we took the shower head off and used a water pitcher from the "barely a kitchen" to rinse off. All that said, we still had a wonderful time. We like quiet, tranquil, water pressure, and an actual kitchen, (very small) so we would not stay there again. Aloha!!!

Rocky start

  • 3 of 5

The management company for this property is clueless. The checkin process was a disaster to the point we almost told them to forget it. Nobody talks to each other. It started off with the unit we had signed up for not being available. We weren't told until we were trying to check in. It went downhill from there. They did find us another unit. Once we finally got in it (after problems with the locks), the unit was great. Actually the whole building, though older, is maintained very well. Would stay here again but would not go through Hawaii Resort Management.

spectacular setting but not well managed

  • 4 of 5

The location of this unit makes it worth staying in. It is a total shame the care of the unit didn't match that promise, but I still loved being there.

When I called before arriving I was told to come by the management office to pick up the keys. No one was there, waited an hour, then called the "emergency line", and was told I just needed the key box code, which I didn't have.

The unit was somewhat dirty, the ceiling fan/lights in the main room did not work, nor did the air conditioner (but wasn't listed as an amenity). The umbrella stands on the deck were rusted and one couldn't easily open the umbrellas in a breeze. The screens doors to the deck could not open at all unless lifted up and taken off the runners. The wireless internet was detected but it couldn't be used since no password provided.

That said, the TV was great, the bed comfortable, the kitchen nicely furnished.

I don't think there is any more spectacular location of a property in all of Hawaii, its convenient location and the view of the beach and being directly in line with the wave breaks. Incredible.

Listed for sale - I'd wait until it's sold

  • 3 of 5

The price is definitely worth it for the location (proximity to one of only 2 swimming beaches in the area) and the balcony (fantastic views), also dedicated parking spot. But beware, it seems this unit is on the verge of being sold, so it has been slightly neglected. Similar to another reviewer, I had to ask where to go and how to get into the unit at check-in, the management office (3 miles north at a different property) did not volunteer any "welcome details". Don't set anything down on the counters (kitchen or bathroom) if you don't want ants on it. And keep the lights off when running the fans. I think the lights attracted bugs because I spent a lot of time picking bugs off the bed. Also, none of the items shown in the balcony pictures are in the unit today. The round table and chairs is there, so you can enjoy meals outside, but no beach chairs or boogie boards or beach mats. But if you need a spot for a couple of nights where you don't want to drive around or spend a ton of money, this will do the trick!

A treasure for those who aren't too high maintenance

  • 4 of 5

Honestly this is an amazing spot. We spent most of the time on the Lanai, it was a little frustrating getting in, because we weren't told where to go and I had to be aggressive about it. Once we did, we had an amazing time, There is no AC but the cross breeze is plenty. Someone wrote a horrific review on Trip Advisor, yes it's noisy, but that is the waves silly! You can see the ocean and the Mountains. We would come back in a heartbeat, you have to be careful of the ants that is true. My only complaint is in the photo there was nice furniture on the balcony, and that wasn't there, it would have been nice to lay out. We enjoyed seeing a mother and son turtle every morning. Truly amazing for those that do not need everything luxury and travel on a budget, like us. The bed is a double and they could do with a larger bed, but it was fine, we didn't really care.

This is an outdated, clean and yet great place to stay! We will be back if we come to the big island.
