Come relax in this wonderful cabin located in Newland, the heart of the Blue Ridge at 3700-feet altitude. Our Mountain Laurel Hideaway offers seclusion and privacy, yet is just minutes to shopping, sightseeing, and the Mountain Glen Golf Course.
The Hideaway has a ground-level entrance, so guests who are not comfortable on stairs will have no problem. The master bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living areas are all on the main floor. Huge windows bring the outdoors into the living area, and the large deck is just perfect for relaxing or entertaining amid the canopy of rhododendrons.
The interior of the cabin has been totally remodeled and furnished with treasures from our family history and finds from local antique stores. For those chilly nights, there is a gas log heater that will warm your family up in a hurry. We also have a new a/c unit. The kitchen cupboards are stocked and equipped with everything you will need to cook your gourmet meals, just bring the food.
The master suite has king-sized bed and a walk-in closet with washer and dryer. Upstairs, (stairs are a bit steep) there is a large bedroom with two twin beds, a walk-in closet, and a half bath. The sofa and futon in the living room also double as beds and there is a rollaway available too. We like our furry friends, so your small pets are welcomed (with a pet fee) as long as they are well behaved. We ask that you have a pet kennel of some kind to keep your pet in when you are out sightseeing. We also must insist that if you smoke, please do so outside. The entry road to our street is county maintained and has a few pot-holes... However, our street and drive way are in really good condition...while an all wheel drive vehicle is recommended it is not required if the season is not icy.
Come, be our guest in the beautiful Mountain Laurel Hideaway, and enjoy all of nature's magnificent beauty in the North Carolina High Country. Enjoy the area with scenic drives, sightseeing, ziplining, gem mining, caverns, white water rafting on the Toe River, Tubing and our favorite Antiquing. We are in most cases 30 minutes from everything!
We are Tim and Sandi McCormack and we live in Central Florida. Tim is a Director of Outreach for our church and Sandi is a pie maker at a local country store and dabbles in handmade pottery with the help of her husband. We have a 19 year old son named Garrett who is away at college with aspirations to be a commercial pilot one day!
Tim and Sandi McCormack purchased this cabin in 2004
Tim's family has had a home in Newland, NC since he was a teenager, so when we considered getting our own cabin there was no other location we would want. We love the fact that Newland is in the middle of every where we like to visit.
When we started looking for a cabin, I looked thru a real estate magazine, and fell in love with this cabin just from the picture of the outside. Its so cute and cozy looking.
When we saw it in person, it was very 70's dated, but with a bit of paint, new flooring and some updates, it turned into the vision of just where we wanted to spend our free time.
We have stayed here twice. I loved staying here, there are a lot of extras that make staying here wonderful. The kitchen has a take one leave one basket of goodies...the cupboards have many of the essentials (salt, pepper, oil etc) that many cabins don't have. The welcome book has all sorts of information about local restaurants etc. We found the house cosy and the deck very nice to sit and relax upon. Many mornings I would go outside with my coffee and just sit and listen to the birds. The drive up to the house is very gentle so its easy access. I think the photos don't accurately capture the comfortable Americana decor. Having a full washer and dryer available was great too so that we could pack fewer clothes. Also there are many DVD's under the TV and books in the foyer near the laundry room. There are even extra jackets hanging there in case you didnt bring enough layers! They have though of everything!
The cabin was the perfect getaway for me and my wife. It was in a beautiful setting, was comfortable, and had lots of little "extras". If you stay here, go eat Sunday brunch at Kayes! Delicious! Would definitely stay here again.
We absolutely loved the little "chalet off the beaten path". It was so very cute, well-kept and clean. We had everything we needed in order to have a perfect weekend. I would stay there again and again.
Very secluded but conveniently located. Cabin kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and stocked with many staples.
I rented the cabin for a week for my family: two teenagers, my mother, myself, and our small dog. The cabin was well stocked, clean, and very comfortable. We had brought tons of supplies only to find that there was more than enough already provided for our use. The owners had a book with menus from local restaurants, booklets, maps--which made planning very easy. They had more than enough cooking and cleaning supplies, as well. Checking in and out was painless. We hiked trails in the area (there were some even my mom could handle with a cane), mined for minerals, tried local ice cream, jams, and jellies, visited historic sites, discovered waterfalls, shopped, and so much more! The cabin was private and so peaceful that some days we opted to just stay in and relax: enjoying coffee on the patio in the mornings (listening to the rain)and BBQ in the evenings, played board games, watched Netflix, read books, and just enjoyed time together. The wifi was good enough for my daughter to finish her online college course weekly homework. The views were outstanding! We will definitely return. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants a stellar vacation. Check out Linville Falls, Flat Rock trail, Banner Elk Falls, the Parkway, Crossnore, Boone (Horn in the West-great shopping on the drive there, too), Mast General Store and Annex, Emerald and Foggy Mountain Mines, and...and..and. I thought there would not be enough to do, but we have so much more that we would like to try; we will definitely come back. My family travels often, and this is by far, our favorite retreat! Thank you!
My husband and I have stayed at many VRBO homes. The weather was perfect during our nice quiet stay in the well-equipped quaint cottage. We think it is just right for a young couple with 2 young children. Plenty of parking in a relatively flat area in front of the cottage. The well-maintained private dirt road leading back to the cottage requires a vehicle with a high clearance because of the 2 pipes under the road. The internet connection was fine for us; however, we only had our iPad so we did not do major downloads or uploads.
The description and pictures are accurate. The property was clean and well-maintained. The owner provided good customer service. We would recommend the property to a young couple with young children. We REALLY loved the Carolina BBQ restaurant http://www.carolinabbqnewland.com/ and the fantastic string band. We will definitely miss the smoked chicken!
