|Minimum Stay||2 - 5 nights|
This is one of the original beachfront homes in Esterillos Oeste. Built in a traditional Spanish style it still has the original, custom arched shuttered windows.
There are 4 bedrooms with A/C: one room with a queen-size bed, two rooms with double beds, one room with two sets of twin-size bunk beds, all with ceiling fans. There are three bathrooms, all have showers.
The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, and pots and pans as well as dinnerware, glassware and silverware.
The living area and dining area downstairs have ceiling fans. There is an additional living room upstairs. There is TV available with Satellite with a mixture of Spanish and English channels.
Just steps from the front door is a pool, a covered Rancho for outdoor grilling and an entertainment area with plenty of seating. This family friendly hacienda has beautiful views of the sunset over the ocean and lush vegetation. Maid service, massages, and tours can be arranged by the friendly and helpful property managers.
There is a small guest house at the back of the property where the gardener and housekeeper live (this is a private residence that is not part of the rental).
Our brother and sister-in-law moved to Costa Rica about 11 years ago. They kept encouraging us to visit and finally, in 2012, we were able to come to Esterillos Oeste for 10 days. We have traveled to many countries and stayed in resorts. Nothing prepared us for the unforgettable experience of staying in this quaint fishing village! We walked to the beach, to the grocery store, to restaurants, and to local bars. We went zip lining, on a cruise to Tortuga Island, and horseback riding. The best, and most interesting, thing about our stay is that we did not want to go home. Period. We loved the people and the relaxed way of life. We loved the variety of things to do close by. We had never felt this way about any of our travel destinations before and we decided right then to make our goal to retire in this village!
We live in Pennsylvania and started coming to Esterillos Oeste for a month during our coldest weather. We brought family and groups of friends to share this unique experience. Everyone had a wonderful time and plan to come back. Perhaps we caught the Pura Vida fever but we never wanted to be anywhere else!
Dave and Kate Treadway purchased this house in 2014
We had been looking at this home every time we came down for a visit. We loved the original features such as the arched shuttered windows. Casa Trasmallo had been owned by a famous writer from San Jose. He had been an ambassador to the United States and was an honorary Fellow at Columbia University. He brought his family to this beach home during the 1980's and after his death his family continued to use the house as a favorite getaway. It was named Trasmallo after the net which was used by local fishermen. We think of the name as a special type of net that brings people of all walks of life into its shelter.
I remember walking by this house one day and watched as children splashed in the pool, someone was cooking on the bar-b-que and a few were lazily swinging in hammocks under the rancho. I thought of my own family and I could see us all there enjoying our day. We loved the arches on the covered front porch and the shutters in the arched windows. What we loved the most was the serenity and beauty of the gardens and outdoor spaces. It seemed that everything about it said 'relax'. We knew this was the perfect place for us.
My four friends and I rented Casa Trasmallo to escape from the noise and stresses in the city. It surely did not disappoint. The beach was empty, very calm and relaxing... and only steps away from the house and the beautifully cared for grounds. The property managers were personable and very prompt with information, payment and greeting us there. In fact, they remained available for questions regarding the area, etc. We will continue to rent Casa Trasmallo for sure!!
We loved our stay at this charming Tico style beach house steps from the beach! There is a mini supermarket within 1000 meters and fresh fish sold by vendors nearby!
Everything one needs to cook and relax poolside is available, even drinking water( sorry we're a family of water guzzlers!)!
This charming house had it all.Clean, secure, all the kitchen amenities, pool, and right across from the beach. Loved the little town it was in. Best restaurant we found in the country. The caretakers are so sweet and genuine and took great care of us. All the bedrooms had individual air conditioning units and it even had a washer and dryer. Couldn't have asked for anything more...3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, cable TV , front porch where we hung out and watched a beautiful lightning storm one nite. We helped some locals push their boat out to sea and were able to see their amazing catch when the boat came back in.. fresh lobsters and crab! Wished we could have stayed here our entire time in Costa Rica. Close to Manuel Antonio and not far from San Jose. Would definitely recommend this to anyone! Thanks to Mike for taking us to the surf board rental guy right down the road and meeting us on the Highway to escort us to Trasmallo. Will defintiely return and stay here if we can ever get back to Costa Rica.
We had a group of 6 from Canada..we had a fantastic time. The house was everything we needed. The local restaurants were great. Food was awesome. Lidia and Marcus were great keepers of the property. We had a local fisherman take the guys out fishing and then cooked all the fish for us over the BBQ. Big thank you to Mike and Martha. They met us the Friday and took us over to the house. Great people. Lewis ended up hiring a local band and DJ that had the us rocking on the Wednesday night. We invited some our new friends from the area and had a great time. The cabana worked wonders during the bit of rain we had that night. Everyone brought a dish and we had a great feast. I'm sure everyone will remember us for quite sometime. If you want a great place to go with great food and an awesome pool...go to Trasmallo...thanks Kate and Dave for all your emails and getting us all set up for our stay...cheers from Larry, Christine, Lewis, Debbie, Tracey and Sharon
We had a great family vacation at this awesome place. The house has everything including a great pool and cabana. The beach is directly across the street and the house is within walking distance to rent surf boards, walk the beach and a grocery store and restaurant in the quant village. David and Kate were able to get a crib for us as well and the AC in the bedrooms was a nice touch.
The house is better than the pictures and David and Kate were professional and friendly. When we go back this will be the place we stay.
It was everything we wanted! The house was great! Well equipped, it had 4 bedrooms and one down stairs which is great if you go with older people! The beach in front of the house is beatiful! Totally recommend!
