Peaceful Sardinian September
Our first visit to Sardinia was barely marred by fairly inclement weather including a momentous thunderstorm.
The villa is in a peaceful rural setting and has all requirements for a self catering stay. Although Pelrosa beach is the eye catching beach paradise some 20 mins away we preferred the quieter beach 5 mins from the villa. Not the prettiest part of island but lots to do and see. Enjoyed a potter round the 2 historic towns of Sassari and Alghero and Neptunes Cave is breathtaking and worth a visit . Daily trips to local port of Sasari to shop and for a sundowner - a village which really grew on us.
Daily exercise on the villa table tennis table grew in competitiveness as the week wore on ! Pool a good size to recuperate in after tennis.
Really appreciated the welcome and help and advice plus starter pack from Karen our host. A lovely week
Thank you for taking the time to post your review and for choosing Villa Ezzi for your first visit to Sardinia. It was a pleasure to meet and assist you on check in.
Although unlucky to have experienced different weather other than the usual 'wall to wall' sun, I am glad you made the most of the many places of interest in the surrounding area and of the villa amenities. I think you meant Stintino instead of Sassari as the local village/ town, but glad you went to Sassari too which is a much larger city/town just inland, but good for shopping or walking the old streets in the city centre. The local beach at Ezzi Mannu is certainly a big advantage to have so close-by during the busier months. Thanks again and so glad you enjoyed your week.
Beautiful scenic location with maximum privacy and pool
Exactly what we were looking for. Peace and quiet amid great sunsets, fields of sheep and olive trees. The house is spacious and well equipped and thank god had air conditioning if you are visiting in high summer! Karen was gracious and helpful.
Wonderfully secluded and quiet villa
We had a fabulous week at Villa Ezzi. The pool was the highlight and we spent many wonderful hours relaxing in and around it. It was particularly good as the shallow end was all the same depth and was almost half of the pool so our 4 and 7 year old could touch the floor. Then in the afternoons when we'd had enough of the sun, the shallow end became increasingly shaded, perfect for the children.
In the villa, with air con in every room it was great to escape the heat.
We loved this villa as it was completely secluded and very quiet, so if that's what you're after I would highly recommend it.
Thank you, your review and recommendation is so appreciated. The location is very specific for peace and quiet and thank you for highlighting the child friendly pool...the afternoon shade with a good amount of shallow space.
Most of all I am so glad you were happy with your choice and I hope you may decide to return at some point.
Great property with pool and quiet location
Grandparents, parents and three kids (6,9,12) had a great stay in the villa! You definitely need a rental car, but it was nice to come home to the quiet house and surroundings after days out on the beach or sight seeing. The pool was really nice, and has a shallow end suitable for kids who are practising their swimming skills. All meals in the house were consumed under the mezzanine by the pool. It has a nice shadow from pretty early morning. Nice big bedrooms and comfortable beds in all rooms - and airconditioning in every room. If we could have one wish: somewhat fresher plastic cups, bowls and plates to bring to the pool - and also more of them.
We found a practical cooler in the equipment room downstairs, and freezer packs in the freezer in the kitchen. Great to bring to the beach. We visited the local Ezzu Manni beach, and loved it so much that we didn't bother to visit the more popular la Pelosa in Stintino. Ezzu Manni was not crowded at all, although visited in July. Parasol needed - either bring or rent with sun chairs on the beach. (Can also pre book.)
Nice restaurant tips in the booklet in the livingroom. We visited a few in Stintino, and recommend Il portico. Great fish, caprese and spaghetti vongole! Recommend grocery shopping in Stintino, i.e Supermercato CRAI on via Sassari. We did some shopping in Stintino Country Paradise up on the hill, and probably more expensive there.
No issues during the week, apart from small ant problem in the house, but not critical. Absolutely no mosquitos!
Karen was very helpful and met us the arriving evening. If needed she was available at any time, but she left good instructions, so no need for assistanse during the week.
If you are looking for a nice and quiet place close to great beaches and possibilities to have a nice meal out - this is it.
Thank you so much for having us, Karen!
Thank you sp much for taking the time to review your stay with kind compliments and useful information for others. I will definitely look at replacing and providing additional plastic and melamine plates etc,. for taking down to the pool. Most of all I am most happy you enjoyed your stay and hope that you may consider returning at some point in the future.
It was a pleasure to have you stay.
Lovely, quiet and relaxing stay guaranteed!
We stayed at Sassari in early June 2017. We wanted a quiet and secluded villa that could be a million miles from civilisation but still within easy reach of the local town and beach. Sassari proved to be exactly what we hoped for. It is located a short drive off the main road past farmers fields and in its own, ample and private grounds.
The villa is well appointed and spacious with all basic needs well covered. We stayed in to eat some evenings, sitting at a dining table surrounded by wall to wall windows providing a panoramic view of the country side and in the near distance, the incredible aqua/blue sea. This also proved to be very easily accessible via a short 5 to 10 minute drive. The beach was beautiful and long with, of all things, Flamingos!
The little nearby coastal town of Stintino proved to be in easy and quick driving distance. This is quiet in early June and has some lovely little restaurants and also a well appointed supermarket. It's also where we caught the boat for a 20 minute ride to the island of Asinara and took a day long 4 x 4 trip with a wonderfully informative guide. The island is now a nature reserve but also has a fascinating and frankly amazing history of having prison facilities used for Mafia bosses. It also has free roaming wildlife including albino donkeys. Perhaps what was most amazing were the fantastic beaches we got to stop at during the visit. We've never seen water so clear and so blue; wonderful. This proved to be typical of this entire area of Sardinia.
The nearest main town is Alghero, an easy 30 minute drive on good roads. It has an "old town" on the coastline that was wonderful to walk around, with lots of lovely restaurants. We found a spanish tapas bar too that sold Iberian Ham. It was fantastic! We caught a boat from here to Neptune's Grotto. Its a cave about 30 mins away by boat that is full of stalactites and stalagmites. It's impressive but the boat journey there and back was more impressive with Dolphins swimming with us!
After hot days out the villa was wonderful to come back to. Always cool and comfortable with a fabulous little pool to take a cool dip in. In early June the water was warm enough to swim around in comfortably. The pool also had an area nearby that provided shade all day from the sun and was a wonderful little retreat when needed.
We had a loveley time at the villa; quiet, comfortable, cool and relaxing.
Thank you very much to you both for such an informative and complimentary review.
Most of all we were so glad you enjoyed your stay and so wonderful how you made the most of the local excursions.
Please come back... there is plenty of room for family and friends too!
Lovely to meet you
Ezzi Mannu is found in the far North West of the beautiful island of Sardinia with the long and sandy Ezzi Mannu Beach conveniently accessible at just 5 minutes from the villa. Stintino town is close-by at just 10km, a very quaint harbour town which offers all amenities and conveniences one would expect. An excellent choice of restaurants and cafes, a varied selection of shops, super markets as well as a weekly open market well worth a visit. Further along the coast towards the very tip with a choice of beaches on the way, there is the area of Capo Falcone which over looks the Island of Asinara National Park not to mention the most popular, stunning and renowned La Pelosa Beach with its amazingly clear and shallow waters in shades of turquoise. An excursion by boat to the Asinara Park or a fishing trip around the Asinara Island is recommended. The local area offers a variety of sporting activities such as wind surfing, deep sea diving, horse riding and tennis. Boats, pedalloes and jet skis can be hired from the Pelosa beach during the main season. The historic towns of Alghero (on the coast) and Sassari (a larger town inland) are well worth a visit and are both within easy driving distance. In Alghero the busy cobbled streets and the bastion wall are a particular feature making it a wonderful place for a day trip, the Lido and large harbour also a point of interest with great atmosphere. For dining, the local Agriturismos are well worth a visit where you can sample the delights of traditional Sardinian food and local wine. All in all there is plenty to see and do in the area with other places of interest recommended within the information folder found in the villa.
