Southern Gulf Islands House Rental Photos and Description

Family and pet friendly 4 bdrm house, stained glass windows and claw foot tubs.

A beautiful, lovingly restored 1912 house that we barged to Galiano Island from Victoria, BC. The house 1600 sq ft with 2 bathrooms and four bedrooms - 2 queen beds, 2 single beds, and one queen pullout sofa. The large main bedroom has a claw foot tub and opening skylight. The second main bedroom has its own walkout balcony where you can enjoy your coffee in the morning sun. A third bedroom has its own ensuite with another claw foot tub. The full kitchen is open concept with a bar seating area for 6 and a harvest table for 6, as well as a cozy wood burning fireplace. The living room has a large sectional couch, a gas fireplace, a piano and a door opening onto the large sunny deck, which has an outdoor gas fire pit and comfortable seating, a breakfast bar and barbecue. There is lovely hiking and biking out the back door and a short trail walk to the ocean sandstone beach. Plenty of wildlife including deer, eagles, hummingbirds, sealions, seals and river otters.

About Joanne Young

My husband and I live in North Vancouver but aways wanted a quaint farm house in the country as a retreat from city life. We have found that our busy lives and summers plans take us elsewhere and we decided that we wanted others to be able to enjoy our beautiful heritage home while we are away.

Joanne Young purchased this house in 2004

Why Joanne Young chose British Columbia

This house has an interesting story. We moved the house by barge from Victoria to Galiano Island and landed it on a lot across the street from our property. In the photos, the other house on the barge is our only next door neighbour who also moved her house at the same time. It was early on a February morning when the barge arrived - what an adventure. As you can see, we have done a huge amount of work to lovingly restore this house, which dates back to 1912, to become a cottage retreat.

When you return from your outdoor adventures, enjoy this warm and cozy cottage with a glass of wine around the wood burning fireplace in the kitchen or the gas fireplace in the living room. Two clawfoot tubs and stained glass windows add to the relaxing atmosphere. In the morning, enjoy your cup of coffee in the sun on the front balconies in this lovely tranquil setting. A large sunny deck on the side is the perfect place for a summer barbecue and to watch the eagles that have a nest across the road and the spectacular stars at night. Children and pets always welcome.

Spacious and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Our family party of 8 were very comfortable in this house. It is very well equipped. It was so nice to be able to put food in the fridge early.

A couple enjoyed the bikes. There were several walks to the shore. Washer and dryer were handy. Would recommend this rental.

Sunny, welcoming home on beautiful Galiano Island

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful week at the house. The house itself is very well located on Galiano Island, on the stunning east coast, a five minute walk to the ocean. The house had everything we needed for our stay and provided the backdrop to one of the most fabulous holidays I've had in years. While it wasn't polished, the house was inviting with lots of character and suited our needs well. There was a great outside seating area where we sat every evening watching the stars come out and the odd deer pass by. The kids were entertained by the trampoline, regular visits by the hummingbirds, and abundance of blackberry bushes to grab handfuls of ripe berries. We BBQ'd most nights on the new barbecue. The Island itself is special - a great way to escape from it all. We visited Montague Harbour a number of times. We particularly enjoyed spending time on Morning Beach. We had a fabulous walk on The Bluffs where we spotted a pod of orca whales with our binoculars. We then drove down to the beautiful Bellhouse Provincial Park to view the orcas from closer proximity (spectacular!). On the practical side, there were a couple of good stores to buy whatever you needed from. We had a tasty lunch at The Crane and Robin restaurant. The ferry is only an hour's sailing from Tsawwassen ferry terminal near Vancouver. We were also blessed with warm, sunny weather in the mid-20s. A perfect holiday!

Ideal Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house is perfectly suited to a group weekend retreat -- ample sleeping space, a large, secluded property, and one of the better-equipped kitchens I've seen in a vacation rental. Joanne was quick to respond to our questions and the house had everything we could have needed. The water is a bit smelly (and in limited supply on the island) so we were happy to have brought some of our own, but really this just added to the charm of the weekend. One friend brought a bottle's worth home in order to prank his wife. Would revisit in a heartbeat!

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

House is located on a quiet, secluded part of the island very close to the water. Rooms are spacious and the kitchen was well stocked with supplies.

Property was very clean and well maintained. Pet friendly. House is surrounded by beautiful wooded area and we saw quite a number of deer!

Joanne (owner) is super friendly - we asked for a late check-out on the last day because we wanted to explore a bit more of the island before heading home. Joanne was very accommodating and easily reachable via cell or email.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here and loved its quirky feel and secluded charm. It is a great size of property and allowed us to properly relax and get away from it all. Only slight downside was no gas in the BBQ or we couldn't get it to work, but that wasn't enough to make a big difference in our stay. This is a really beautiful spot on an even more beautiful island. Thanks for the stay!

Wonderful place to stay for a large group!

  • 4 of 5

All (6) of us enjoyed our stay; it was difficult to leave. Having a real fireplace brought back memories and oh, the warmth (is like none other)!

The kitchen is better equipped than my own. The cottage (I think of it more like a home) wasn't far from anything (10 mins. by car to the town). We hiked a lot (we would've done more but we hit a real rainy weekend in March).

I went with my 2 adult children and their significant others along with a mother-in-law to spend celebrating my son's 30th birthday. What a fantastic time!

We played some of the board games and had lots of fun.

I would highly recommend this place to stay (I couldn't believe how reasonable it was too)!

Galiano Island provides a beautiful peaceful retreat at any time of the year. Staying at the Fireside Cottage, on 5 acres of fields and forests, you will have full privacy, seeing only the occasional neighbour strolling by, and yet a few minutes down the road you will find the corner store, Hummingbird Pub, luxurious spa and high end dining at the Galiano Inn restaurant, as well as a quiet country golf course. There is a wine festival every summer on the island and year round artist tours. Montague Harbour Provincial Park offers beautiful kayaking and a protected harbour. A hike up Mount Galiano affords a spectacular view of the surrounding Gulf Islands.
