Haut de Cagnes Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and dressing , sleeps 2

Welcome to 'Le Refuge'

Le Refuge offers bed and breakfast in an elegantly furnished double room, with a large and exclusive bathroom and small dressing. The building, that used to be a monastery, is situated in a quiet street in the medieval village of Haut-de-Cagnes. Some say it is 'magic', coming here is like walking a couple of hundred years back in time. Yet, the village has around 10 restaurants - one of them with a Guide Michelin star. The 'Le Refuge' B&B guest apartment is part of a larger home. The room has a beautiful sea view and a separate entrance. There is a very comfortable double bed, a dining table for two, an armchair, and a television, DVD, radio CD, with air conditioning in the room. The spacious bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, a shower, 2 wash basins, water closet, and bidet. There is no kitchen, but the apartment is equipped with a kettle, a toaster, microwave, and a refrigerator/freezer. Continental breakfast is included, other meals possible on demand.

A free shuttle drives up and down the hill every 15 min to Cagnes-sur-Mer to the shopping centre, where you have several supermarkets. From there you have a network of buses (1.50 euros per person) going to Nice, Antibes, Cannes and Grasse....

Further pictures: We can email you more pictures and details on request.

Golf and skiing, and more...: This is a perfect village for golfers! There are around 15 golf courses within a 30 min drive. Skiing is a 1.3 hour drive away.

Booking information: Please contact us for further information - we will answer promptly!

Could not have been more perfect....

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at " Le refuge" for 4 nights and I could not have imagined a better place to stay. The room is full of charm with a large, very comfortable bed. Amazing views from our window, and a delightful, copious french breakfast waiting at our front door every morning .

We enjoyed the very luxurious bathroom and having your own washing machine and dryer is a real bonus when you travel.

Ms. Tellander was a perfect host , very helpful and friendly, we so enjoyed our little chats...Wish there was more time.

Les Hauts -de-cagnes is an amazing place, that takes you straight back in time and is unspoiled . There is a feel of proudness from the locals to keep this heritage as beautiful as can be and they all putting in the effort to achieve just that...Congratulation .....I did not want to leave....

If you are going in that region of France my strong recommendation is that you have to stay there . You will feel spoiled.

Thank you very much Willy-Maria these memories will stay with us forever.

Isabelle and Cem .

Owner's Response: Thank you Isabelle and Cem, I am pleased to hear from you and pleased to hear that your trip to Europe and to our village is in your memory for always. Haut de Cagnes is a real Gem. In town or at the sea shore you can rent bicycles and make trips to Nice or Antibes. The buses are inexpensives only one euro per trip per person. We have also a parking lot in the village euro 42 per week. So you are welcome to come back any time. Kind regards to you both and to the family, Will-Maria

Enjoyable stay despite the weather

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Le Refuge. Willy-Maria was a perfect landlady - nothing was too much trouble. Even though we were sharing her home, we never felt that she or we were ever intruding. Breakfast arrived at our front door every morning in a delightful hamper - each day slightly different. The bed was large and comfortable and the room was warm. The bathroom was enormous, two sinks such a treat, with heated towel rails for us both. The washing machine and drier was an added benefit. Plenty of storage space and a fridge for our wine! The navette bus was handy for the trips up the hill and the market in Cagnes sur Mer is not to be missed. A fantasic location with a great sea view too. Our only complaint was about the weather - too much rain, but even that didn't ruin our experience.

Perfect Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Le Refuge every year for the past seven years and we cannot wait to return again. The accommodation is perfect for a couple with an elegantly furnished bedroom and a luxuriously large bathroom. Mrs Tellander, the friendly and helpful owner, provides an excellent and varied breakfast. We refer to her as the "breakfast fairy" as a laden tray just appears outside the door each morning!

The village is unspoilt and truly an opportunity to step away from modern life. Exploring it provides an endless series of fascinating surprises. The chateau museum is not to be missed and there are also some excellent small restaurants. As the apartment has only a microwave and kettle, there is a welcome opportunity to take a rest from cooking and eat out.

A walk down the hill to Cagnes sur Mer is a pleasure and there's a regular free navette for the journey back. Cros de Cagnes and the promenade provide a change of scenery and if you wish to go further afield, It is not necessary to have a car. There are frequent buses from the town square to many other locations including Nice, Grasse, Vence, Antibes and Cannes - all at a cost of one Euro per passenger.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends. We just hope they don't make a booking when we want to come!

An Idyllic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our week-long stay at Le Refuge met our high expectations for cleanliness, comfort, charming location, and perfect base for exploring the Riviera. Willy-Maria was accomodating and helpful, as well as providing us with a satisfying breakfast each morning. The photos accurately display the rooms as well as the historic quality of Haut de Cagnes. There is free, frequent shuttle service only steps away that connects to buses or trains serving Cannes, Antibes, Monaco and of course, Nice. Not to be missed is St. Paul de Vence and the historic Columne d'Or Restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the apartment and a open square nearby which provides opportunities to enjoy excellent views and local ambience. We would highly recommend Le Refuge, as well as the area of Haut de Cagnes, for its proximity to major metropolitan areas while providing a quiet respite in an historic village.

Amazing location and even better hostess!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited this lovely property for one week in July 2011 and we have nothing but great things to say about this place. The location is great (small village with great restaurants options within walking distance) and the views from the room and the surrounding area are spectacular! The hostess was very welcoming and spoke perfect English. We received a freshly prepared breakfast every morning as promised and we had total privacy for the entire stay. Quick and easy drive to Nice/Monaco/Cannes and a great launching point to explore the entire riviera. We both give Le Refuge as well as the owner our higher possible recommendation.

We will definitely be back! :)

Good double room with TV, DVD player, CD/radio and small dining area. Sea view from the bed - not just from the window! Superbly appointed bathroom with separate area containing fridge and microwave. Ms Tellander is a charming lady who gave us a real welcome and her breakfasts still live on in my memory.

Haut-de-Cagnes is an idylically pretty restored medieval village at the top of a hill overlooking Cagnes-sur-Mer, with free transport up and down to the town, Interesting things to see locally, and also Ideally located for public transport to all major points in the area: no car needed - in fact better without it, certainly in August.

A wonderful place to spend your time on the Côte d'Azur, especially in the middle of summer. Le Refuge really was a refuge to return to at night time after the incredible crowds of people we found everywhere else. The nearest restaurant, Le Manoir, was perfect for a late dinner out on the terrace. A really lovely holiday.

The hill top village of Haut-de-Cagnes is the old and historic part of Cagnes-sur-Mer, a seaside town and former fishing village between Nice Airport and Antibes. While Haut-de-Cagnes is almost untouched by modern life, Cagnes-sur-Mer has everything you need, including one of the best-covered Provencal markets of the Côte d´Azur. Also, from Cagnes-sur-Mer, you easily reach Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Grasse and St Paul de Vence via a network of local buses and trains. The beach is a 5 min car or bus ride away. On the other side of the village, the snow-clad Provencal mountains are also within easy reach. The area is also full of museums, galleries and wonderful restaurants. Visitors often find Haut-de-Cagnes a magical place, full of ambiance and history!
