Quiet Cottage on the Cove

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Come and enjoy our delightful, cozy cottage located on the South Side of Webb Pond in Eastbrook about 30 minutes from Mount Desert Island / Acadia National Park and 11 miles from Ellsworth. This lakefront house has an open great room style kitchen/living room/dining room, off of which is a bedroom with a full-sized bed. In the living area, a futon couch, a love seat and two comfy chairs provide a simple and comfortable place to chat, read and enjoy the 270 degree view of the pond. The cottage sits 50 feet from the water's edge with 450 feet of water frontage on a little bit more than an acre on a private cove.

For additional sleeping space, there is a separate, quaint, simple, sleeping cabin with its own covered porch, two bunk beds and a futon.

Comfortable for 6. This home offers the perfect getaway for a family with children. The cottage has a screened in porch and an open deck. Be together for meals & family time in the open kitchen/dining room/living room pack the kids off to the sleeping cabin for evening privacy. Grown-ups and kids alike mention that sleeping in a well-enclosed, dry space without electricity is the best part of camping: bring your flashlights and tell stories until the loons sing you to sleep! The downstairs bathroom is in the cottage and has a large, spacious two shower-head stall & a washing machine & dryer.

Kayak, fish, and swim in the clear delightful waters of Webb Pond. Do bring your own life vests, and water shoes. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we have.

About Jan Campbell

I was a candy maker on Martha's Vineyard and then an elementary school teacher while raising a family in the Hudson Valley of New York for many years. Now, with one daughter graduated from college and the second with a year to go, and having helped my aging parents through their final years, I have returned to Martha's Vineyard to live year-round. I am a co-director of a wonderful, non-profit, all-volunteer camp for people with and without disabilities and the happy owner of three high-maintenance Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

Jan Campbell purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Jan Campbell chose Eastbrook

The family first came to Ellsworth through a one week rental in a cottage with no electricity or running water. We loved the area so much we purchased this property when our daughters were eight and eleven, and although we don't get to spend tons of time here, we dream of it often and treasure the time we do spend here. We love the sunrises at Cadillac Mountain on Mt. Desert Isle, local hikes around Tunk Mountain, kayaking and swimming a few feet from our door, reading and playing cards in peace, cooking simple and delicious meals together and quiet and listening to the choral symphonies of the frogs and loons. And when we want to go out to dinner or pick up supplies, it's not far to town.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the ease of jumping in for a swim on a hot day or driving fifteen minutes to hikes with glorious views; we love stepping away from all the stresses of our daily lives, leaving television and internet far behind; we love taking a dip early in the morning when the lake is as smooth as glass, and we love the huge sky full of stars to watch from the deck or lawn at night.

Secluded but a bit "too rustic"

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for almost week and decided to leave early. The photos are misleading in that the bunk beds and extra double bed are in a shed-like outer structure that had no heat and is infested with wasps. The main house smelled like mold and has only one double bed. There is no tv or internet which was fine because we enjoy that type of vacation but cell service was also very limited. The oven was not functional and there was no toaster oven, so we had to microwave everything. The thing that was most worrisome were the two loose dogs, a boxer and a pitbull, that wandered over to the property at will and growled and barked at us. On the positive side, we very much enjoyed the proximity to Bar Harbor and the lake was absolutely beautiful. Ultimately, we enjoyed our stay but would likely not return. Also, the owner did not refund the steep cleaning deposit even though we left the place cleaner than we found it and a full day early.

Owner's Response: This is an upsetting review to read. I only wish that this guest had done herself a favor and me the courtesy of letting me know about these problems while I could address them! This is the first I am hearing of her unhappiness. If the cleaner has no work to do when she gets there tomorrow, I will certainly return all of the cleaning deposit -- as of this moment, there hasn't yet been time for that to happen! The sleeping cabin is separate and I've never presented it as otherwise. Neither the cleaner nor the caretaker ever mentioned any problems of wasps in there, nor did I see any when I was there, but I will make sure that if there is a wasp problem that it's rectified! This is also the first time I'm hearing about a mold smell in the main house and about a broken oven! It would've been nice to be told about these issues, but now that I know, I will certainly address them. I have never sought reviews before. All the feedback I've ever gotten has been given directly to me by guests, during and after their stays. I very much appreciate honest feedback and I'm continually working to make the house better and better! I'm sorry it wasn't a good fit for this guest. Usually I undersell the house so much to people that they are surprised and pleased when they get there. My family and other guests find it a simple, relaxing place to enjoy a getaway from daily stresses, and I hope it can provide a lovely respite for others in the future!
