We were there 9 months ago. (August 14) and my 7 year old still mentions it once a week in one regard or another.
The owners General Store is the only place we gathered food from the entire week we were there and it was fantastic. (made up reason to go there) Pies galore; tried all but one and i'm thinking we're going back this summer so i can try it.
We love this place. It's a beautiful drive through the tunnel if trees to Harbor Springs and Cross Village. The house is tranquil, relaxing and fully equipped. Try the Good Hart General store, a picturesque and fun spot with delicious pies. There are lots if other foods that looked delicious too and I'm not finished sampling.
We rented kayaks from the Outfitters that are being delivered to the house for a small fee.
We have rented this house in both the summer and the winter and it’s fantastic. It’s clean, modern, and has all the amenities you need, as well as spectacular views of Lake Michigan. The beach is just a short walk down the back of the house and is a great place for kids and adults alike. The deck overlooks Lake Michigan and the sunsets are amazing. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the full finished basement adds additional space for kids or adults to play or hang out. The house is in a great location close to Harbor Springs and in the winter, it’s a just short drive to the ski resorts. We would highly recommend this house and are looking forward to our next visit.
We rented the Jackson Cottage in summer of 2013. Originally from Northern Michigan, our family was gathering there for a memorial for my grandparents. We wanted a beautiful place on Lake Michigan where we could focus on family in peace and beautiful surroundings and we found it there. The cottage was comfortable and clean and so, so cute. The location can’t be beat – it’s down a dirt road, on the beach and is the best place to get away from everything. Fortunately, if you need anything, the Good Hart general store is right up the road and you can grab a paper there, a pie, lunch from the deli, or s’mores supplies for a bonfire on the beach. We loved that we were short drives from both Cross Village and Harbor Springs but could “escape” back to the beach.
I’ve rented a lot of houses and, unlike other spaces, here the check-in and check-out were seamless, no hassle and, thankfully, all of the instructions for the house were easy to find. There is no better place in the world in the summer than Northern Michigan. I can’t wait to get back there again soon, under different circumstances. The Jackson Cottage is way more than a cottage – it is a beautiful home and it was the perfect vacation for us.
