About Sharon and Ronald Blasko
I am a Marine, that somehow, ended up at Notre Dame. For 17 years, I ran and taught in the Engineering Machine Shop. During that time, I started my own shop, Ron's Machine Shop. The 'Grey House' was built in 1978-79 to, among other things, give me shelter, a place to lay my head (other than a workbench), eat, shower, all the while still working/teaching at ND. And thus, I began the 30+ year journey of owning/running the 80'x26' shop behind it. In 1988, I acquired the first industrial/manufacturing re-zoning in a residential neighborhood, so close to Notre Dame. No easy feat, I may say. It's a good thing they abolished the 'burning at the stake' clause. Last year, after a good run, we closed the shop. We just re-zoned back to residential and I will probably continue to fiddle around a bit, I know my wife will, the 'Honey to do list', seems to grow everyday. So,for now, I am going to concentrate on my personal life, creating 'unique' inventions and giving back to our neighborhood community. OBTW, did I mention that 'Joey' lived with me for awhile back in the day? I even had the privilege of taking care of his dog. I think the dog was easier to watch. No offense Joe! This house is 15' east of our 'Big House' #594456, and we would love to be able to provide a wonderful 'ND' experience for our guest.
Sharon and Ronald Blasko purchased this House in 1978
Why Sharon and Ronald Blasko chose South Bend
We recently sold our boat in Florida, came back and found that the 'Grey House' tenants, had violated their lease. We decided, then and there, that we would not go through that anguish again. So, we rolled up our sleeves, broke out the paint, buckets, mops, sponges, and went to work. It didn't take long, with a little elbow grease and TLC, to bring her back. We heard about VRBO from a guest that was staying in a home, only one home, East, separated our properties. She said 'you will have no problem renting your homes, they are in a perfect place and very, very nice'. So here, we are.
What makes this House unique
Our neighborhood is awesome. The 'Notre Dame' experience is unbelievable. If you haven't had the chance, it's will worth the trip. The fly-overs shake the ground, The roar of the crowd can be heard before it even hits the airwaves. Come join us and be a part of our 'pot of gold' at the end of the rainbow. You won't be disappointed. We, recently, 2/2015, started our own Neighborhood Watch program. Partnering with our neighbors, the University of Notre Dame, Highline US(Overlook (graduate housing), Irish Row, and Irish Flats), and St. Joseph County, to preserve and add to the allure of our uniquely "hidden" treasure that is Morningside/Pedestrian Addition.

Close to campus, convenient, nice owners, house is a bit dated
Close to campus, convenient, nice owners, house is a bit dated.
This house is very close to campus, it's very convenient to restaurants and supermarkets. The owners are very nice. They are very accommodating with check-in times and check out times. They are very responsive.
With all that said, the house is dated and has some major issues.
The master bedroom is spacious but the Master bathroom is tiny. Two people cannot be in the bathroom at the same time. There is no door from the bathroom to the bedroom so that if someone was using the toilet they would be on full display in the bedroom. Two people cannot be in the bathroom at the same time. We actually had to hang sheets over the door space to create some sort of barrier. The water pressure in the master bathroom is very very low. It's actually hard to take a shower and feel refreshed or clean
The kitchen does not have a dishwasher and there is no ice maker or even ice trays in the freezer. Cabinet doors have been removed from the kitchen cabinet and closet doors have been removed from bedrooms and hallways. Overall, the house is run down and dated. It was clean and again the owners were very accommodating But for the price I think the house is very run down. Because you don't need a parking pass for football games you can save money and a hassle by being so close to campus but I think I would rather stay a little further away next time in a nicer and more up to date house.
Only good thing is location
We were two sets of parents visiting for a Notre Dame football game and this is a very frank review. The home is very dated. The kitchen was lacking on silverware with only a few spoons. The coffee maker is very old and slow. Showers had no water pressure and randomly ran scalding hot or cold, making taking showers a problem. Bath amenities were opened bottles of shampoo and used bars of soap. One of the bathrooms had no door on it and the toilet is right next to the door. The other bathroom was dirty when we found it. One of the bedrooms did not have any curtains on the windows. There were curtains in the living room that were hanging by clothes hangars. The beds were sagging like hammocks or creaked every time you moved. Our last night we woke up to screaming in the front yard at 1:30AM and found the owners moving cars around on the front lawn yelling at each other and shining headlights into our bedroom. We had to walk out and ask them to please let us sleep. We still don't know what they were doing. The location is A plus but it is hard getting over the quality of the home.
We were in town for the Wake Forest/ N,otre Dame Football game. The house was great. It was immaculate and we had plenty of room for our guests. It was conveniently located close to the Notre Dame campus, restaurants, bars and shopping (grocery, CVS, mall, etc)
Thank you Sharon and Ron for a great weekend.
Cute Gray House
We had a great weekend at the gray house. It is close to ND campus--a very easy walk. The house was clean and neat and everything was in order. Sharon and Ron are great hosts and couldn't have been more helpful. Sharon made it easy as we made our plans and she was patient as we changed them a few times. She was very accommodating and made the check in and out very simple. It was a pleasure staying at their home and it made our graduation weekend very enjoyable. If the weather had been better, we would have really enjoyed the new deck that they built and the grill--maybe next time! I would recommend this as a great place to stay when you need to be close to campus.
The property is well maintained and has best quality of everything in there.
This property was ideal for me to begin my stay in Notre Dame University: It is 5-8 minutes walk from the University. I stayed in this house in the non-football season and It was cheap and had the flexibility of leasing on a month to month basis. The rent included gas/electricity/garbage/water, you have to pay for the internet though (reasonably cheap though), the internet speed was great. The owners were kind enough to give me a bike during my stay (I believe they have a couple of them). Although the house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, I booked a single bedroom-bathroom attached, it was well furnished. In the bed room there are hangers and cloth shelves. The kitchen has chimney, which is important, since this allows cooking smell out of the home. The bathroom attached to single bedroom is ok for one person (it has a shower but doesn't have a bath tub), while the one with two other rooms has is equipped with shower/bathtub. Besides all this, the owners Sharon and Ron are lovely people and great host. Over all experience is worth repeating.
This was my second time staying at the grey house. It was clean and ready for me upon arrival. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly--always making sure I have everything I need. The house had everything you'd need from hangers in the closet, to blankets, towels, soaps, kitchen utensils, etc. Location is great--super close to campus and restaurants. Main shopping/dining areas, like Target, Olive Garden, etc. are a short drive away. I enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend to others.
This secluded, almost forgotten neighborhood, is a rare find. Walking distance to Notre Dame Campus, the Grotto, Sacred Heart Basilica, DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, Compton Family Ice Arena, Eddy Street Commons (Restaurants, Hammes Bookstore, AT&T, etc.), Linebacker Lounge, Mulligans, Warren Golf Course, Little Flower Catholic Church, Martin's Supermarket w/Starbucks/Fresh Sushi/and a great flower shop. You will love this area. We are a unique, diversified, cultural group of individual homeowners. Some of us have been here for over 50 years. Wow, where does the time go and what amazing transformations we have seen. Come enjoy our hospitality. This property is located adjacent to our other listing, The 'Big' House, #5994457. So, if you have a very 'large' group, you would be right next door to each other. Plus we own the corner lot, Berger and Burdette, with plenty of parking available.
