Nestled just 15 minutes outside of Banff, this tastefully decorated, 1,000 sq. ft., two-bedroom, two-bath condominium features a large formal entry way, a bright, open lounge and dining area boasting hardwood floors, river rock gas fireplace with log mantle, leather sofa set, Canadian heritage antiques, 'rustic' decorative lamps, original mountain artwork, and Mackenzie tartans throughout. There is also a deck that provides spectacular views of the protected wetlands, Aspens, creek and surrounding peaks, including the famous 'Three Sisters.'

The building is located across from a protected wetland habitat, at the edge of Policeman's Creek with meandering boardwalk. With unobstructed views of pretty much nature only, you get the feeling of wilderness seclusion, yet are only a less than 2 minute walk from conveniences of the quaint, yet cultural alpine town of Canmore.

In the living room for your relaxation and entertainment are a television with basic cable, VCR, stereo system, and CD player. And the balcony off of the living room not only provides spectacular trees, creek and mountain views, it also provides a teak bistro set, and a large gas barbecue to fire up that world famous Alberta beef!

The large, fully-equipped, modern kitchen contains tiled floors, dishwasher, microwave, a refrigerator, and cupboards stocked with various condiments, cookbooks, and just about every tool the gourmet chef in you would need to create a fabulous meal.

The spacious, yet cozy master bedroom contains a queen-size bed with rustic log headboard and two closets, while the second bedroom contains a queen-size bed and one large closet. In addition, there is a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room, allowing for a maximum occupancy of six people (rates based on four-person occupancy). Both bedrooms contain high-quality eyelet lace bed sheets, duvets and pillows, as well as vintage bedroom furniture, 'rustic' decorative lamps, original mountain artwork, Mackenzie tartan throw pillows and scarves, and plush berber carpet. The master en suite contains a shower stall, while the second bathroom located in the hallway contains a bathtub/shower combination - quality towels provided in each.

The hallway contains a built-in bookshelf brimming with various paperback books and hard cover coffee table books featuring Canadian and Rocky Mountain art, all of which can be enjoyed while taking in the fresh mountain air on the balcony by day, or cozying up next to the warm fire at night. Also provided for your enjoyment with friends and family are various board games and decks of cards.

The condominium has a large storage room containing a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board, a picnic knapsack (to take on hikes), fans, first aid kit, and various cleaning supplies. Also provided for your convenience is a heated underground garage.

Tasteful rustic, Canadian heritage decor and high-end comfort have been given priority at Mackenzie Creekside. The original mountain artwork done by the owner and her father as well as other Alberta artists, in additional to the Mackenzie tartans and Canadian heritage family photos, help to create a sense of 'home-away-from-home' beckoning you to return to Mackenzie Creekside to visit the majestic Canadian Rockies...

I'm originally from Calgary and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994. I worked for a large medical device company by day and volunteer as a graphic designer/webmaster/events committee member for the Nine Lives Foundation - a no-kill cat shelter in the Bay Area. But I missed the Canadian Rockies so much that I decided to purchase a vacation condo in Canmore and visit the area ~2x/year. It's such an AMAZING part of the world that I can't get enough of! So much so that I recently moved back to Calgary to be closer to my family and start my own creative services business... :-)

Why Leanne Mackenzie chose Alberta

I've always envisioned myself owning a log cabin in the middle on nowhere, but unfortunately, that just isn't feasible (for many reasons). I learned of 'The Boardwalk' building and that most of the condos face the protected wetlands, creek, and mountains, including the famous 'Three Sisters'. I bought the condo sight-unseen because it was the only condo available with that kind of unobstructed views of nature only. You get the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere, but are yet a 2-10 minute walk from just about everything you need. I decorated the condo to have a rustic cabin-like ambiance, so between the views and the convenient location, it's the best of both worlds!

What makes this condo unique

Located just off of the downtown so walking distance to most town amenities but with views of pretty much nature only... most other condo developments have views of busy streets, parking lots, grocery stores, other condos, etc.

Excellent get-away for summer or fall

We’ve rented one of Leanne’s condos for three years now, a couple of summers, and this past year, the week leading up to Thanksgiving. The accommodations and amenities were terrific: lots of room for our family of 5, and provided a home-away-from-home feeling. We used Canmore as home-base for excursions to Banff, Lake Louise, Kananaskis, and so on … and it was great to have a place to come back to each night, right in the middle of the mountains. Even in October, there’s nothing like enjoying morning coffee on the condo balcony.

It’s got everything you could need, and between the full-service kitchen and the BBQ on the balcony, it’s all good.

Ignore Negative Reviews

We had a wonderful stay at this condo. I read some of the reviews, and as always with VRBO renters, there are some negative comments. As someone who travels and rents through VRBO frequently, I get really worn out by having to sift through the reviews and decide which ones are really valid, and which are not. Seems many think they are renting a billionaire condo with wait service. You are not. You are renting from someone who has been kind enough to open their apartment up for vacationers to enjoy. And, that is exactly what you get. You get a fully furnished apartment located in close proximity to everything Canmore has to offer, with the convenience of the National Parks (of which, she provides a park pass - huge savings) and the Village of Banff being a short drive away. If you're spending that much time in the apartment, you're not experiencing everything the area has to offer.

There are great hiking trails for all levels, with a boardwalk right next door to some incredible hikes and scrambles at the edge of town. The mountains in this region are breathtaking. There are plenty of restaurants, but if you chose to dine in, she provides a great supply of kitchenware. The grill is an added bonus! There is a grocery right in town, so no need to shop in Calgary before you arrive. The internet was a wonderful bonus, as it allowed us to check in with family through wifi, and we didn't need international calling.

To touch on a few of the negative reviews... 1. Yes, there is a pub below. Of the 5 nights we rented, there was only one evening with ANY noise coming from the pub. And, just as the owner states, it goes silent at 11. But, you should have enjoyed yourself enough all day, that you're able to sleep right through. 2. Yes, there are trees outside of the balcony. Sure, it would be nice to see the mountains from the couch. But this should not be any reason to leave a bad review. Looking at trees is better than some alternatives 3. The showers were perfectly fine. We had plenty of water coming from the shower heads. 4. There is soap. Again, this isn't an all-inclusive. Like traveling anywhere, if you have preferences, bring your own. 5. There are train tracks nearby, but I didn't notice a single train. 6. The length of time it takes your party to arrive to the rental is of no reflection of the rental. You book your own travel.

This was a lovely rental, and we would rent it again. The owner has done a wonderful job of providing for guests.

Nice But Noisy

We had high expectations for this property after reading the positive reviews. The interior of the condo is furnished wonderfully, with original artwork, photos, and homey touches that makes you feel right at home. Unfortunately, the location close to town, though a blessing, is also a curse. The balcony is above the neighboring outdoor patio of an English Pub (seating up to 75 patrons), and the noise the first three nights almost sent us packing. It was not possible to sleep with the windows open, a huge disadvantage, since the unit does not have air conditioning. Leanne did make calls to the restaurant the third day to ensure they abided by the local 11:00 PM noise curfew, which did help. This would not be a problem in the cooler months, but be forewarned if the weather is warm. The person who gave this condo a one star review has valid points about the noise that we completely agree with. Canmore is lovely, and we will return, just not to this property. There are better options in town that offer more peace and quiet.

Owner's Response: I felt bad that these guests did not enjoy their stay at my condo and did my best to address the situation, after I was informed of it 3 days later, with the City of Canmore Bylaw services. While there is a pub next door with an outdoor patio, you don't hear the patron noise when the windows are closed and the ceiling fan is on. That is why I have had many stellar reviews of my condo from former guests. Unfortunately during this guest's stay, we were experiencing a week long heat wave in this region which made the condo unusually hot so they wanted to keep their windows opened at night. (It might get hot for 1 week of the year in the Canadian Rockies so installing expensive air conditioning is not warranted.) The Canmore Bylaw Officer worked with the owner of the Pub who has agreed to ensure that service on the patio shuts down at 11:00p and that patrons are to move indoors shortly thereafter. The condo is located at the edge of downtown with a lot of happy locals and tourists enjoying their summer, so you have to expect there to be noise in exchange for the convenience of being able to walk everywhere. If noise is bothersome to you, it would be best to rent a unit well outside of the downtown area.

Welcoming & Homey

Mackenzie Creekside is a fabulous condo in the heart of Canmore. It is so cozy & welcoming we felt at home instantly. There are many homey touches with photos & Tartan throws and beautiful artwork done by the owner & her father. One could simply relax by the stone fireplace enjoying the view through the large windows and not go anywhere. It was very quiet & peaceful with no noise from the traffic or train.

The view is spectacular! We were blessed with incredibly nice weather for Feb & were able to sit on the balcony with a mountain view at every angle. The location was perfect, being able to just walk to the main street & shops, cafe's, restaraunts as well as grocery stores, we felt a long way from the big city! We mostly made our own meals in the large kitchen with anything you needed in untensil's provided but there are many top end restaraunts within walking distance. There are also plenty of places to choose for a daytrip as well like Banff, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Johnson's Canyon..and so much more. Having the use of a park pass makes a big difference. We hiked to the lower falls at Johnson's Canyon....being winter it isn't an easy trek but well worth it!

A Perfect Choice

This condo is exactly as advertised. It's beside a lovely creek with a boardwalk along it that is perfect for an evening walk. It was within walking distance to several great restaurants.

We felt the security was excellent and the condo had everything we needed. We visited 4 national parks and two provincial parks while we were there and the free park pass was very much appreciated. We would highly recommend this condo!

A great location

We've stayed at this condo during the last 3 summers. It's a great location, near Banff, and in a wonderful town. We were lucky enough, one year, to be in town for the Canmore Folk Festival.

This year we brought our bikes and discovered some of the great bike paths near the condo. It was a wonderful week and the condo has begun to feel like another place to call home.
