About the property

conveniently located to allow you to explore all the local splendours of Beaune

The Gite du Couvent is conveniently located to allow you to explore all the local splendours of the Capital of the burgundy wines while staying in charming and comfortable self catering accommodation.

Within easy short walks from both the historic city centre and the vineyards criss-crossed by many hiking trails, our gite is part of the former Capuchin convent built in the early 17th century in a quiet and picturesque neighbourhood with the Bouzaise river running nearby

With a capacity of 4 adults, the Gite du Couvent has been designed to accommodate comfortably a couple, a family or a group of friends. We took great care with the interior design with a tasteful decoration and period furniture.

A 17th century cellar is available for storage of bicycles or …any bottled liquids!

Wonderful stay! Comfortable apartment for a family of four, great location, amenities and value.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed in Olivia's 2 bedroom apartment in Beaune for three nights in October and we wish we could have stayed longer! The apartment is spacious and comfortable and far exceeded our expectations (it is nicer than the pictures)--it is well-heated for the cool nights, the sheets and comforters are incredibly luxurious, comfortable and fresh, and there were good towels and plenty of space and equipment and supplies in the the kitchen (refrigerator, oven, stove, dishwasher, coffee makers, toaster, pots and pans, salt and pepper and spices, some tea/coffee--a lot of your basics to prepare a meal and eat at home--my only complaint might be that we couldn't find any plates, but that was probably an oversight, and since our stay was short, we just made do and did not ask for them). There is wifi and TV with English channels in the apartment (though we did not watch much TV). The apartment is beautifully decorated, sunny, and we slept incredibly well in the beds. There is even a washing machine, and we did a load of wash and hung our clothes to dry, so that we did not have to travel with our laundry. The shower has great water pressure, and the bathroom is very functional (good amount of counter space to put our toiletries, good hot water, hair dryer if you need it, hooks, storage space in a small cabinet). Outside, there is a lovely park nearby where our children played on the playground. Beaune itself is lovely and has some fantastic restaurants. The wine region surrounding Beaune is absolutely stunning, and has so much to offer in terms of charming villages, and amazing food and wine (much better than what we experienced in the Loire valley earlier in our trip). My husband and I rented bikes and biked through Pommard, Volnay and Mersault with our children (one in a trailer, one on a baby seat).

The apartment is not hard to find! You can look at the map on the VRBO site, and the small cul-de-sac/alley that the apartment is located on is labeled number 27 on the Rue Faubourg Saint-Martin. the small alley is located between Rue du Clos des Capucins and Rue du Clos Pothier.

We had a wonderful stay at Olivia's apartment and would not hesitate to recommend it highly to friends and hope to return soon!

Wonderful character, location, and value!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the gite for 6 nights in October. The main reason I chose this location is that Olivia was very prompt, friendly, and helpful with all communication during the booking and planning process. It was also a great price for the size and location. We were arriving late in the evening, so Olivia left us the key under the mat. This would have worked perfectly, except I wrote the house number down wrong. Luckily, Olivia talked us through the directions over the phone, and it turned out we were just down the street, which we probably would have figured out in the daylight and with less travel exhaustion. It is really quite easy to find if you have the address correct! The next day, Olivia stopped by and gave us some wonderful recommendations for restaurants and wineries to visit.

The gite is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It has a large living room and kitchen with anything you could need for cooking. Two couples or a family could easily stay there with plenty of space. It is just a few minute walk to all of the shops, restaurants and wine tastings in Beaune. A short walk in the other direction leads you to a really nice public park and then to the bike and walking paths among the grapes. The gite is also close to a bike rental shop. The weather was much colder than we had expected, so we skipped the bikes, but I think it would be well worth it during nice weather.

If you are visiting Burgundy, Beaune is a lovely town to visit with many options for food and shopping, but still with a small town feel. We visited many of the smaller towns, and I was glad we were staying in Beaune instead. And, if you are staying in Beaune, I highly recommend this gite to stay in. We would stay here again, and would encourage friends and family to stay there as well!

6 heavenly days in Beaune

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous location very walkable to anywhere in town...close to the local bakery with the varieties of fresh yummy breads of all types..to bring back to the very comfortable and quiet, well stocked...cheerful kitchen and cozy living room...a true feeling of the Burgundy region...so convenient to drive a few block/or walk and one is surrounded by rows of grape vines and rolling green lush countryside. The feeling of being totally immersed into the French culture surrounds you while staying in this wonderful charming abode. Breakfast is lit by the morning sun...and kissed by the gentle breeze coming through the generous windows that open wide ...Very good dining many choices of excellent menus and shopping with history everywhere...The owner is charming and quite helpful to answer any questions .I would recommend the lovely rental with enthusiasm ...and plan on returning...

Comfortable and great location

  • 4 of 5

Our week in the apartment was very pleasant. The location is great being a short walk to Beaune centre. Our only negative comments are that instructions are required to locate the entrance (no number or name on street front), there is no courtyard only a common driveway, and the TV needs to be replaced.

The Great Gite du Convent

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at the Gite for a week in Spring of 2012. We were very impressed with the location and condition of this lovely flat. One of the small highlights is the availablity of off-street parking just outside the door of the Gite. We did not use the car everyday because it is an easy walk into central Beaune (if you have not done so, be certain to visit the Hotel-Dieu des Hospices with its distinctive tiled roof). In the opposite direction of town, it is an easy walk to a very nice park and a few more steps to the local vineyards. One of our favorite day trips was the one we took to Abbaye de Fontenay - a lovely drive and very nice town in which to walk around. The Gite is spacious and very comfortabley furnished. We enjoyed sitting in the evenings in the great leather chairs as we sipped wine, ate cheese and read. The lay-out of the Gite would be very comfortable for families - with a lot of room throughout. The kitchen is well equiped (we left a coffee press behind - Enjoy!). It was lovely to sit at the table in the morning with the sunshine streaming in the large windows while we ate our baguettes, butter and jam. Olivia, the owner, was on hand to welcome us upon arrival and was very knowledgeable about local spots to visit.
