This lovely apartment is close to Taughannock Falls, the highest single drop waterfall in the Northeastern United States (33 feet higher than Niagara Falls). The location is adjacent to Taughannock Falls State Park and is perfect for outdoor activities including hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, and fishing. Hiking the nature trails along the gorges, which are up to 400' high, provides panoramic and dramatic views of the gorges formed by the ice age. Minutes from the Cayuga Wine Trail, the Cheese Trail and the Beer Trail, there are great restaurants nearby, many which feature free live music. Only ten miles to Ithaca and to Watkins Glen, across the street from a beautiful stream that flows into the waterfall. You can hear the soothing sounds of the stream as you doze off to sleep. Peaceful surroundings and beautiful gardens. Saturday summertime lakefront outdoor concerts at Taughannock Park.
Newly renovated smaller second floor apartment in owner's country home, cozy and comfortable, perfect for 1-2 people. The bedroom has a new queen bed, solid oak dresser plus an air conditioner. The cheerful sunroom/dining room has a cypress wood table and chairs and looks out over the expansive grounds. We call the apartment the Eagles Nest, since it sits above the magnolia trees and overlooks large black walnut trees and many flower gardens. There's a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven and range, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. In addition there's a newly tiled bathroom, a den with two chairs and flat screen DirectTV with 63 channels and second air conditioner, a walk-in closet, and wireless internet connection. Linens, towels and soft cotton bedding and blankets are supplied, and several Metropolitan Museum of Art reproductions hang on the walls. Close to the quaint village of Trumansburg which offers boutique and art gallery shops, excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and liquor store, pharmacy, natural foods store and deli, bank, beautiful public library, new bowling alley and laundromat. The house was formerly owned by Robert Moog, who invented the synthesizer, and who invited many famous musicians to the home, i.e. the Beatles and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The house will be included in an upcoming documentary about the life of Bob Moog, scheduled to be released next year.
Retired graphic artist/teacher, originally from New Jersey and so grateful to now be living in the beauty of the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY.
Loretta Heimbuch purchased this apartment in 1977
Bought this house in 1977 from Moog synthesizer inventor/musician Bob Moog who was moving to North Carolina to celebrate his break from the corporate world. Loved this house at first sight - and the incredible beauty of the Finger Lakes' gorges and waterfalls nearby.
Ideal location, next to the beauty of Taughannock Falls State Park and it's amazing waterfalls and breathtaking hiking trails, two minute drive to Cayuga Lake with water access and swimming beach, right on the road that runs parallel with the stream that flows into the 215' waterfall, and midway between Ithaca and the 20+ wineries of the Cayuga Lake Wine trail and Finger Lakes wine country.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in October. The apartment was nice and cozy and spotlessly clean. We had a very nice and relaxing stay, and Loretta was great with communication and lovely to meet! There are just enough pots/pans etc. to prepare a small meal. I prepared a small pot of chili, and I had brought along my own small pan and ingredients to prepare a little batch of bar cookies. There is a full grocery store about a 5 minute drive away. We had a great time exploring the area, including Lake Ontario, Watkins Glen, and many stops in between. The state park right up the street is gorgeous! We will stay again for sure if we return to this area!
Peaceful. Relaxing. Cozy. This vacation home is very nice and it is clear Loretta has taken a lot of care and pride in furnishing and maintaining this lovely little apartment. Regarding the practical matters: Loretta's communication was great and she was there with the key when I arrived. The apartment was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the WiFi was fast. Even though I had the sense I was tucked away into the woods, the apartment was actually located only a mile or two from the conveniences of a grocery store and some cafes/restaurants.
Everything that you seen in the pictures is exactly what you get. Loretta greets you with the key and gives you all the information that you need in a nicely assembled binder with recommended restaurants, shops, and activities. The apartment has outdoor stairs you have to walk up to reach the apartment. The space is just right for 2 people. Their house is literally down the street from Taughannock Falls. You can over to see the gorge. It's super quiet which makes for a super relaxing stay. The property is clean and well-maintained. The only complaint I have is that there were many channels on
We came up to visit Ithaca in early October, and greatly enjoyed our stay here. Loretta was incredibly accommodating given how late we got in, and the apartment itself is lovely. Everything was clean, comfortable, and being so close to the park and nearby Trumansburg made things easy. Highly recommend!
A great cozy apartment close to scenic waterfalls, has a gracious host, and pretty gardens.
We had trouble finding it because it is on Hwy 96 not 89 but it is very close to 89. We were
please it and comfortable. The stairs might be an issue for some but we were fine.
This little apartment is right in the middle of every place we wanted to go during our visit to the Finger Lakes! Loretta met us upon our arrival and showed us around the apartment. Everything was clean and neat. My husband and I used this place as a comfortable home base while we visited several wineries, hiked in three state parks and ate in lots of local restaurants. After a busy day it was so relaxing to return to this beautiful property.
