Overview

Trumansburg Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Lovely Apartment Adjacent To Taughannock Falls State Park and Cayuga Lake.

This lovely apartment is close to Taughannock Falls, the highest single drop waterfall in the Northeastern United States (33 feet higher than Niagara Falls). The location is adjacent to Taughannock Falls State Park and is perfect for outdoor activities including hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, and fishing. Hiking the nature trails along the gorges, which are up to 400' high, provides panoramic and dramatic views of the gorges formed by the ice age. Minutes from the Cayuga Wine Trail, the Cheese Trail and the Beer Trail, there are great restaurants nearby, many which feature free live music. Only ten miles to Ithaca and to Watkins Glen, across the street from a beautiful stream that flows into the waterfall. You can hear the soothing sounds of the stream as you doze off to sleep. Peaceful surroundings and beautiful gardens. Saturday summertime lakefront outdoor concerts at Taughannock Park.

Newly renovated smaller second floor apartment in owner's country home, cozy and comfortable, perfect for 1-2 people. The bedroom has a new queen bed, solid oak dresser plus an air conditioner. The cheerful sunroom/dining room has a cypress wood table and chairs and looks out over the expansive grounds. We call the apartment the Eagles Nest, since it sits above the magnolia trees and overlooks large black walnut trees and many flower gardens. There's a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven and range, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. In addition there's a newly tiled bathroom, a den with two chairs and flat screen DirectTV with 63 channels and second air conditioner, a walk-in closet, and wireless internet connection. Linens, towels and soft cotton bedding and blankets are supplied, and several Metropolitan Museum of Art reproductions hang on the walls. Close to the quaint village of Trumansburg which offers boutique and art gallery shops, excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and liquor store, pharmacy, natural foods store and deli, bank, beautiful public library, new bowling alley and laundromat. The house was formerly owned by Robert Moog, who invented the synthesizer, and who invited many famous musicians to the home, i.e. the Beatles and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The house will be included in an upcoming documentary about the life of Bob Moog, scheduled to be released next year.

About Loretta Heimbuch

Retired graphic artist/teacher, originally from New Jersey and so grateful to now be living in the beauty of the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY.

Loretta Heimbuch purchased this apartment in 1977

Why Loretta Heimbuch chose Cayuga Lake

Bought this house in 1977 from Moog synthesizer inventor/musician Bob Moog who was moving to North Carolina to celebrate his break from the corporate world. Loved this house at first sight - and the incredible beauty of the Finger Lakes' gorges and waterfalls nearby.

What makes this apartment unique

Ideal location, next to the beauty of Taughannock Falls State Park and it's amazing waterfalls and breathtaking hiking trails, two minute drive to Cayuga Lake with water access and swimming beach, right on the road that runs parallel with the stream that flows into the 215' waterfall, and midway between Ithaca and the 20+ wineries of the Cayuga Lake Wine trail and Finger Lakes wine country.

Comfortable & Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Your apartment was perfect for our few get-away days! Small & quaint, it had everything we needed. Your property was beautiful and the area so peaceful. The night sky was exceptional with so many stars! Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your Moog home & history with us! We loved hiking the gorge trails at both Watkins Glen and Taughannock Falls - only wish we had more time for enjoy the parks more! We enjoyed a beautiful ride around Cayuga Lake with stops at Long Point Winery on the wine trail and a local farm on the cheese trail. We recommend lunch at Wolffy's Grill & Marina in Seneca Falls - lunch on the deck overlooking the lake. Thanks again Loretta!

Nice place, close to town and the State Park

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this quaint home. It was set in a quiet, peaceful area, yet close to many of the places we wanted to go. Loretta greeted us warmly and gave us information about the grocery, restaurants and a new, nearby bicycle trail that we were interested in using. The Taughannock State Park is close and we spent 2 days hiking and biking in the park. The cute apartment had almost everything we needed, and when we did ask Loretta for something, she was quick to provide. It is perfect for two people. The kitchen was well stocked and we cooked breakfasts and some dinners while there. We enjoyed the Glenwood Pines Restaurant in Ithaca, the Glen Motor Inn in Watkins Glen and the ice cream places in Trumansburg. The Corning Museum of Glass was also very interesting. We would recommend this VRBO apartment to our friends.

Convenient, comfortable, clean

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place for me to stay while I attended a wedding. It's very quiet and has all the amenities you'd need for one to 2 people. It was very hot the weekend I was there, and there are window AC units but not central air. They worked well and kept me comfortable. Trumansburg is a great little town with lots of options for food, ice cream!!, and quick to get all around the Ithaca area. Very close to Taughannock State Park.

Perfect Anniversary Weekend

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for the perfect place to spend a relaxing and/or romantic weekend, then this is the place for you. Upon arrival, Loretta gave us a tour of the apartment and provided us with an entire binder of restaurant, activity, and winery suggestions. The apartment is adorable and very well-maintained. It is exactly as the pictures suggest; it truly felt like home away from home.

During our visit, we visited the Taughannock Falls (2 minutes away), Ithaca (about 15 minutes away), the Cayuga Wine Trail (about 10 minutes away), and several restaurants and ice cream shops. We also found it extremely convenient that Trumansburg is only a 1 to 2 minute drive away, so we were able to go to the grocery store and eat breakfast without having to drive far at all.

We highly recommend Cayuga Lake Creamery, Taughannock Farms Restaurant (view of lake and only a few minutes away), Creekside Cafe (excellent breakfast sandwiches in Trumansburg), Johnson Art Museum (Ithaca), Little Venice Ristorante (Trumansburg), Americana Winery (outdoor entertainment), and Thirsty Owl Winery and Bistro (outdoor seating with beautiful view of lake).

We truly cannot say enough about our wonderful stay. There is so much to do within a 2 to 15 minute driving distance that we couldn't do it all! So, thank you Loretta and Steve for providing us with the perfect home away from home and for helping to make our 10 year anniversary one that we will always remember!

Great Couples Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was perfect for 2 people. The owner greeted us when we arrived, was very welcoming, and offered great suggestions. The waterfall trails down the road are a must do. We spent hours walking the trails and enjoying the views. Trumansburg has a nice collection of restaurants (we ate great meals at Hazelnut Kitchen and Little Venice). Great location for visiting wineries, breweries, and cideries along Cayuga and Seneca lakes. We highly recommend this apartment and this area for couples.
