Lovely Apartment Adjacent To Taughannock Falls State Park and Cayuga Lake.
This cozy second floor apartment is next to Taughannock Falls State Park, which has the highest single drop waterfall in the Northeastern United States (33 feet higher than Niagara Falls). The location is perfect for outdoor activities including hiking the gorge trails and the newly completed Black Diamond Trail (which runs from Trumansburg to Ithaca along a former train route), biking, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, and fishing. Hiking the nature trails along the gorges, which are up to 400' high, provides dramatic views of the gorges formed by the ice age. Minutes from the Cayuga Wine Trail, which includes scenic wineries, distilleries, cideries and breweries. There are great restaurants nearby, many featuring free live music. Only ten miles to Ithaca and to Watkins Glen, across the road from beautiful Taughannock Stream that flows into the waterfall. You can hear the soothing sounds of the stream as you doze off to sleep. Peaceful surroundings and beautiful gardens. Saturday summertime lakefront outdoor concerts at Taughannock Park.
Newly renovated smaller second floor apartment in owner's country home, clean, cozy and comfortable, perfect for 1-2 people. The bedroom has a new queen size mattress, solid Amish-made oak dresser plus air conditioner. The cheerful sunroom/dining room has a cypress wood table and chairs (handmade by local Amish craftsmen) and looks out over the trees and expansive grounds. We call the apartment the Eagles Nest, since it sits above the magnolia trees and overlooks large silver maple and black walnut trees and several flower gardens. There's a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven and range, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. In addition there's a newly tiled bathroom, a den with two chairs and flat screen DirectTV with 63 channels and second air conditioner, a walk-in closet, and wireless internet connection. Linens, towels and soft cotton bedding and blankets are supplied, and several Metropolitan Museum of Art reproductions hang on the walls. Close to the quaint village of Trumansburg which offers boutique and art gallery shops, excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and liquor store, pharmacy, natural foods store and deli, bank, beautiful public library, new bowling alley and laundromat. The house was formerly owned by Robert Moog, who invented the synthesizer, and who invited many famous musicians to the home, i.e. the Beatles and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The house will be included in an upcoming documentary about the life of Bob Moog, scheduled to be released this year.
Please note that for those with physical limitations, there are stars leading up to the apartment as shown in the photo of the apartment.

About Loretta Heimbuch
Retired graphic artist/teacher, originally from New Jersey and so grateful to now be living in the beauty of the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY.
Loretta Heimbuch purchased this Apartment in 1977
Why Loretta Heimbuch chose Trumansburg
Bought this house in 1977 from Moog synthesizer inventor/musician Bob Moog who was moving to North Carolina to celebrate his break from the corporate world. Loved this house at first sight - and the incredible beauty of the Finger Lakes' gorges and waterfalls nearby.

Cozy, clean apartment, conveniently located near amazing wineries!
We had such a blast at Eagle's Nest! It was a cute, cozy and clean apartment that was conveniently located near Cayuga Lake and its many wineries. The owners, Loretta and Steve, were very friendly. Though we didn't see them too often, because my boyfriend and I were out and about enjoying the hiking, wine tastings and some amazing food, they were very sweet when we did cross paths.
Overall, we had such a great time during our quiet and cozy retreat.
Loretta and Steve - Thank you for allowing us to stay. We can't wait to come back!
Thank you so much for staying with us. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and we'll look forward to your coming back again!
I loved my 3-night stay at this property. I was a solo traveler but the apartment would certainly be comfortable for two. Walkable distance to the rim trails of Taughannock Falls and convenient to the restaurants in Trumansburg. Made a great base for visiting the Finger Lakes wineries and the owners gave a lot of good suggestions of good ones to visit according to the wines I liked. The apartment was extremely quiet and well furnished. Living room has two chairs (no sofa/couch) with a DVD player and TV with somewhat basic cable (but I wasn't there to watch TV). Bedroom had a very comfortable queen size bed. Nice shower with good water pressure. It was exactly what I was looking for and I would definitely stay there again.
Thanks so much for staying with us. We're so glad you were so comfortable in the apartment. And that you found some good local wineries - there's certainly an abundance of them to choose from. It was a pleasure having you visit and we hope you'll be back again.
Charming, cozy apartment in an ideal location
The "Eagle's Nest" was an ideal location for our weekend getaway. It was an easy walk to the beautiful trails in Taughannock Falls Park and a pleasant drive into Ithaca. Loretta's property is just lovely- we enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the beautiful gardens and the hens. The apartment is small but so much more comfortable than a hotel and plenty spacious for two guests. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen were very clean and well appointed. The owners were friendly and welcoming and the information provided in the apartment is helpful if you're looking for dining options or places nearby to explore. I would not hesitate to rent this property again on subsequent visits to the Trumansburg area.
Charming little getaway.
The Crows Nest is located across the street from the stunning Taughanock Falls. It is within a short drive to many of the area gorges and the Corning Glass Museum. It is also a quick drive into the city of Ithaca. The apartment was private, included many amenities and was above all CLEAN! Loretta and Steve were very pleasant and available to provide information about the local area attractions and eateries. The apartment was the perfect place to stay while sightseeing in this magnificent part of New York State. We would come back in a heartbeat.
We're so glad you chose our rental for your getaway. It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we hope you'll be back again soon.
Cozy Apartment in great location with friendly hosts
The apartment was clean and cozy- could easily have stayed there longer. There is a helpful binder with information about local places to eat and things to do. The hosts were friendly. It is a rural, peaceful setting. Highly recommend it.
Thank you so much for staying with us. We're so glad you enjoyed the peaceful setting. Hope you'll be back again soon!
Cozy, clean and quiet:)
We recently stayed in Trumansburg for a short get away. The hosts met us as we drove up to the house. Everything in the write up is accurate! The stairs are a little tricky at the top, but once inside, everything was clean and well-maintained. The towels were luxuriously soft and the bed comfortable. The floors were hardwood with a clean shine. The location was superb!! Being 20 minutes north of Ithaca was perfect. The state parks were amazing. Buttermilk was our favorite!
Thank you so much for your feedback. We enjoyed meeting you and having you stay with us. And we are planning to improve the stairs before next season. Hope you'll come back again soon.

Just 15 minutes from Ithaca and the Cayuga Lake wine trail. Hiking easy to moderate breathtaking trails along the north and south rim gorge, which were formed by the Ice Age. Cayuga Lake fishing, public swimming beach, kayak, stand-up paddleboard and canoe rentals, boat marina and launch. Local wineries with year-round free weekly live music concerts.
