at home in rome---a dream come true

  • 5 of 5

the beautiful city of rome feels like home when you meet at this apt---a tiny street very near the pantheon and piazza navona---open the huge wooden door, step into the inner area with iron gate, view the huge urn behind, pass the marble steps and go up in the walnut paneled elevatio---then the door opens to the apt and all is bright and spacious and with the 2 terraces and 1 balcony you have fabulous views---our favorite is sunset over the pantheon and st peters---the baths and bedrooms are lovely and the kit-dr-lr area invites you to relax and enjoy rome---you can walk almost anywhere you want to visit---most days we start in a cab and then enjoy the beautiful walk back that gives you a chance to really have the chance to feel how rome looks and lives. every day we found this apartment to be a dream come true---this is our 2nd stay and we want to return next year---

at home in rome---a dream come true

  • 5 of 5

rome is such wonderful and beautiful city and when you can open a huge wooden door with giant brass door knobs you feel as if you are really at home in rome---an iron gate, a huge urn, marble steps, a walnut paneled elevator and you open the door to a dream come true in this apartment---all is light and spacious and the 2 terraces and 1 balcony give you views of rome from 4 different directions---my favorite is seeing the sun set on the dome of the pantheon and st peters---all is so well planned that you feel at home at once and the people who meet you to let you in seem like cousins just waiting to welcome you---we cannot wait to return---

Great Apartment

  • 5 of 5

In older building, but clean and spacious. Located 3 blocks from Pantheon. Supermarket 300 feet away. Three local type restaurants within 200 feet and great coffee place across the street and 100 feet away. A taxi rank 300 feet away. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and three nice bathrooms. Air conditioned, but we did not need in May. Patio with great sunset views. Location, location, location. First time user of VRBO, but not the last.

Perfect stay while in Rome!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time using VRBO, so I was a little skeptical of the process. However, upon arriving to our duplex, my daughter and I were extremely pleased with the accomodations. We could have easily had another mother/daughter stay with us, as there was plently of room for 4 people.

We felt very safe at all times, and the location was perfect for exploring all of Rome.

The terrace was wonderful! We came back every afternoon for a little time to relax and enjoy the outstanding view...and a beautiful sunset each evening.

I would recommend this place to any group of 4...we were so very delighted with our stay!

Location, views, and comfort

  • 5 of 5

We just wanted to let you know how very much we enjoyed staying in your beautiful apartment in Rome. The location could not have been more ideal! We walked everywhere. And as the Pantheon is one of our favorite places, being so closeby was wonderful; we were able to stop in early in the morning before the crowds gathered, and stroll by again at night, under the full moon. The apartment itself was so very comfortable, attractive, clean, and well-equipped. And the views, the natural light and the outdoor spaces were truly delightful. We also appreciated the music library, and - especially given the impending storm and the upcoming elections - access to CNN. We would love to stay there again on a future visit!

Penthouse Perfection near the Pantheon

  • 5 of 5

My one-sentence, highest recommendation is that the two of us loved the Via Gesu apartment so much that the day we returned home, we booked the apartment for the same time next year.

This sentence doesn’t tell you why, so let me explain. This two-story apartment would be special in any location, but where it is located makes it extra-special. From its two large terraces, balcony and many windows, you have four exposures—west to the sunset over the domes of St. Peter’s and the wedding-cake spiral of Sant’Ivo, southwest to the dome of the Pantheon, north to the clockface on the Collegio Romano, and east to the Quirinale and the dome of the Gesu. You can gaze out from your terraces, watch the sea gulls and meditate on how all of the centuries-old buildings fit together like a giant, three-dimensional mosaic.

When you wake in the morning you can take a few steps into the Via della Pigna to have a caffe latte and a freshly baked cornneto at Café Ge-Mi. By your second day the woman at the register will know your order. Here you can see neighbors (and their dogs) who live and work nearby in a precise ballet that takes place while you sip—in, drink an espresso, out. You can have a simple and delicious lunch each weekday at Enoteca Corsi on the ground level of the building with a lively mix of neighbors and workers who descend in a frenzy just after 1 p.m.

You will be able to walk everywhere in the centro storico from the apartment and return after lunch for a read of the International Herald Tribune and a nap. The tranquility of the setting inspires a leisurely pace--each day a mixture of a museum, a stop at a bakery for a fresh torta rustica for dinner, a gelato, shopping for shoes, a Campari and soda, a leisurely dinner watching the sun set over St. Peter’s dome and the moon rise over the Quirinale and a quiet night's sleep.

Your way in this sixteenth-century building will be made smoother and safer by the exceptionally friendly and helpful portiere, Luca. The apartment is spacious and is comfortably furnished with two long couches in the living room, a sound system, SKY TV and a compact, well-equipped kitchen, & 3 full baths. (And you will be able to say that you gazed at the dome of the Pantheon while washing dishes.)

Rome offers the perfect mix of culture, walking and people watching, shopping, and food; a stay in the Via Gesu penthouse offers the perfect location and ambience to enjoy the best of Rome.
