About Candace Cave
Richard 'RG' Guches and Candace Cave live on land that has been in RG's family since before 1887. In 2000 they built Oregon Woodland Cottage, the first structure on the land since RG's father's family moved off in 1919. We stayed in the cottage as a seasonal retreat while we cruised our 35' sailboat through central America. In 2007 we settled permanently, and built a two-story home in 2008. The cottage is now available for your comfortable stay. As a kid, RG dreamed of being a farmer. After 35-years as a college professor, and 10 years on a cruising sailboat, he's finally manifesting that particular dream. You'll see him out and about on his tractor or riding his gator, tending the garden, the chickens, and the bees. Candace loves the wildness of the Homestead. Ask her about the plants and wildflowers that grow around the property. But she's a 'city girl' at heart, so she spends many days each week managing our other travelers' accommodations, Chakra Garden, near downton Ashland.

Why Candace Cave chose Medford
How could we not embrace 60 woodland acres of land given to us in beautiful So. Oregon? RG had been visiting this land, where his father and grandfather were born, all his life. It has been a marvelous experience to live upon it for the past decade. We are happy to share the beauty and serenity with you.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are at the end of a solitary canyon that is marked by two miles of (newly) paved road. Andrews Rd feeds off a back road that runs into Jacksonville and is at the very beginning of the Applegate Watershed. Our land is beautiful with pine, oak, cedar, madrone, and maple trees, some lovely meadows, an old apple orchard, a pond, and every kind of critter you might expect in the woods. We are at the end of the road, so there's no traffic, and two of our 4 borders are on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, some of it watershed, so lots of big trees (2nd growth forest). We have a large garden, keep chickens and alpaca, and both love to spend time outdoors.

Quiet and Secluded
Nice, spacious, and comfortable cottage The location was secluded but very close to everything. It was easy for us to get around and enjoy Medford and the surrounding area. Our dog was in heaven with the animals and smells of the forest. RG and Candace were the perfect hosts. We would definitely stay here again.
A Oregon Beauty!
Cabin, and its surroundings i will never forget. We were very much at home.Wish we could have stayed longer🌞
The host was very friendly. The area was scenic and the alpacas were neat. The place was well equipped.
Absolutely beautiful setting
No one could ask for better people to rent from. Candace and RG were so kind and informative. The wealth of information about the property made it feel like home for the time my dog and I were there. She particularly enjoyed it because her new "playmate" Cooper took her on many adventures through the orchards and forests. Hiking was terrific. We even got to see the resident alpacas sheared.
The only things a bit disappointing were I couldn't get cell phone service no matter how hard I tried and perhaps I misunderstood the description, but the washer and dryer were not in the house I rented but next door. Otherwise, it was a lovely experience and it was with regret that I had to leave early.
Quiet and peaceful
Spent several days in this quiet getaway.
It was very relaxing.
Warm, comfortable space and great hosts
When we arrived the fire was burning and the cabin was very warm and inviting. Everything we needed was there. We traved with 3 adults, 4 kids and 3 dogs. It was very clean, comfortable and beautiful. We really enjoyed hiking the property and the adjacent BLM land. The kids kids loved playing with Copper and Ruby Tuesday, as did our dogs. It was very convenient for exploring Jacksonville, Applegate lake, Medford and Ashland. We will be back again for sure.
The most wonderful aspects of the Homestead Woodland Cottage are that it has all modern conveniences, has the deep solitude of a forest dwelling, but is right in the middle of the wonderful recreation and leisure activities offered in the Rogue Valley. Inside the cottage, you'll find trail guides for places all over the valley, personal recommendations from us for fun swimming holes on the Applegate, winery tour maps, and a variety of other recreation guides. We're a great location if you've come to hang-glide or parasail from Woodrat Mountain.
You can also enjoy a quiet, out-of-the mainstream get-away and spend your days hanging in a hammock or sky chair, soaking in our spa, wander around the upper meadow until you find just the right tree to read under, or hike up to the Shaman tree. Plus we welcome your canine friends.
