The 5 apartments are part of a 13th-century villa (Le Pozze), which was renovated in Renaissance style. It is located at 400 m above sea level between olive trees, chestnut trees, vineyards, fruit plants, and mainly cherry trees. The garden is huge and has wooden tables to have breakfast or lunch outside. The 13 x 6-m pool is located 50 m away from the villa. The apartments are different in size, between 110 and 50 m² and have 2/3 bedrooms, a kitchen/dining room and a bathroom. The pieces of furniture come from our and some are antique pieces. For additional information about this place, please read the detailed description. Another apartment sleeping 4 (2 bedrooms) is currently under renovation. This one has an entrance opening onto the loggia. It is not available on this website yet. It will be ready in May.
Le Pozze: villa from the 13th-century Giotto era

Professor of Applied Geology at the University of Florence, with a French Doctorate in France (in Montpellier, in 1971), I am currently retired. I love painting, antiques, and pottery.
Owner purchased this Apartment in 1890
Why Owner chose Dicomano
This family-owned house has been a kind of refuge for 4 generations of Florentines, a family of artists and potters (the Cantagalli family). The building was renovated between 1995 and 2000. The earliest information we have about the villa dates back as far as 1246, in Giotto's time. The villa is mentioned regarding the obligations the former owners, the Asinis, had towards the monastery of Florence.
What makes this Apartment unique
The main point of interest is the story of the house and its owners; starting from the Ademari family, the Asini family in Florence, the Dalle Pozze family from Dicomano, and the 19th-century Cantagalli family (very famous for its artistic pieces of pottery in Florence), which are the current owners. Cantagalli pieces of pottery are still present in the house of the owner. There is a fresco in the Giotto apartment, from an unknown, probably 15th or 16th-century artist, representing the Madonna with a child holding a small bird in his hand.

Beautiful, relaxing, welcoming retreat
High on a hillside, amid olive groves, this villa is great for a relaxing family holiday in the Mediterrenean warmth.
The pool is lovely - just right to cool off on a 30C+ day and very nice as a relaxing focal point after a long day out. There are tonnes of shady spots to sit in, and little activities like table tennis and boules. Our only problem was getting our teenagers off the WiFi (although it does *just* reach to the pool) and out into the sunshine.
If your kids are old enough to not need full time supervision, you can have some very relaxing days here with a book and refills of Prosecco.
Cooking facilities are great - Brits might miss a kettle, but you're in Italy, so drink Espresso! Supermarkets are down in Dicomano, open 7 days a week, and have everything you're going to need to cook far better and fresher than you can in much of the UK.
Rooms are comfy and spacious, with enough modern touches (particularly in the bathroom) to enjoy their historic feel without being back in the dark ages. WiFi is fast, even when several of your family are YouTubing.
Although we were the very first of the season, and had the place entirely to ourselves, everything was clean and ready for us.
Alberto was onsite just about all the time, and was happy to cook quite wonderfully for us, and at a great price compared to standard restaurants. He was also incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout - Anglophones don't be put off by "Owner speaks French". Alberto's English is excellent, and Paolo's is very good; we conversed in a mixture of his good English and my not so good French.
I can imagine that this would be a superb location for an extended family or group of friends who want the balance between staying together, with options to do their own thing in the day.
Location wise, if you want to go to further afield in Tuscany - say to Pisa, Siena or San Gimiano, it will be a whole day trip. It's a good couple of hours each way.
But Florence is close enough, and very affordable by train. UK Train commuters will be incredulous at the prices. And the Mugello has its own charms. But maybe not if this is your once in a lifetime trip to Tuscany and you want to see everything.
Remember, relaxing, calm, beautiful. Not high energy or at the centre of things.
Great location, beautiful villa and surroundings
What a fantastic stay we had here this summer and such a warm welcome from Paolo and Alberto.
The courtyard which the apartments surrounded was lovely. In the mornings it was lovely to sit in courtyard with a coffee and listen to the birds and watch them fly in and out of the arches where they were nesting.
The pool was lovely, it was just a few yards from the courtyard but far enough away that my noisy children could not be heard by the other residents.
The apartments were like stepping back in time. We were in the largest second floor apartment, but I asked Paolo if I could look around a few of the others. They were all spacious and the décor was in keeping with the beautiful old villa. The apartments are high ceilings with lovely original beams.
Alberto and Paolo could not do enough for us, we felt like part of the family along with all the other holiday makers there. At request Alberto will cook you a fantastic meal made of local produce and some vegetables from the grounds.
The villa is set in plenty of beautiful countryside with various trees and plants (plenty of olive and apricot trees). It is a bit of a bumpy ride to the town Dicomano so you need to take it slowly. However it is really conveniently located and the train from Dicomano will take you straight into Florence for less than 5 euros and in about 50 minutes.
All I can say is a big thank you to Paolo and Alberto for giving us such a wonderful experience and hope to be back next year.
Many many thanks to Lesley for a so generous appreciation: we hope to do better, and may-be also with a new apartment, nexth year.
All the best from le Pozze and by Paolo and Alberto

Villa Le Pozze is located in the municipality of Dicomano, 4 km away from the city centre and 35-40 km away (45 minutes) from Florence, in the valley of the Sieve River and in the Mugello region to the north of Florence. It is an agricultural area, particularly dedicated to wine producing, olive growing, cattle and sheep breading, and the production of sweet chestnut wood with the famous “Mugello chestnut”. The Sieve River is the most important tributary of the Arno River. In its catchment basin lies the Bilancino reserve, where you can go sailing, fishing, etc. The Mugello race circuit is located in the same region. On this circuit, in June, is held the Moto GP World Championship. A train, which stops in Dicomano, connects the valley with Florence, and there is also a motorway towards Bologna, Rome, Arezzo, Lucca, Pisa-Viareggio, and Siena.
