This remote property is at the end of a 2 km, somewhat bumpy forest road, fronting a quiet ocean inlet. Enjoy tidal flats filled with oysters, bird life and clean ocean water. Two salmon runs can be seen in fall. The cottage is located at the edge of a garden clearing, 400' from the beach.
Inside the cottage you'll find a glass-fronted wood stove, hot water, shower, full kitchen, all rooms completely furnished. Linens, blankets, pillows and towels are provided .
Tap into our WiFi (medium speed) at the main house, if needed. Cell phone signal is available also at the main house, but it is weak. There is no TV.
Firewood for heat, and propane for cooking range, hot water and fridge.
Sleeps 4 max: Queen bed in bedroom, and a fold out hide-a-bed in front room.
Guests have access to the rest of the property and they can also use our canoe to paddle out into Desolation Sound.
How to find us: Drive north of Powell River on 101 Highway. After about 25 minutes, watch for a fire-station sign on the right, brown and red mailboxes on the left of a turn-off called 'Craig Rd'. (It is 2.5 km. from the highway to the cottage) The highway here swings to the left and Craig Rd swings slightly to the right. Turn off here and shortly you will turn right onto 'Plummer Creek Rd'. Pretty soon it turns from pavement into gravel, starts to go downhill and into the woods. (The road is a bit lumpy in spots but not soft, low riding sports cars are not advisable) You'll go down by an old sand pit with open gates on the sides, and then on down into thicker mature forest. Ignore all signs of 'closed road'. At the bottom, it levels out and swings left. In a few hundred yards there will be a fork, stay left and go up a rise. Then after a couple of turns, it opens up into a garden where you'll see 'Koppen - 9120'. Here is where you can park - just before the sign, there is a pull-over to the right.
Once here..... Since we make our own power, we need to be mindful of electricity consumption, and turn off lights and elec. devices when not in use.
The road from the highway 101 to the property is rough in some spots. A regular car can travel it, but must go very slowly. We recommend to stock up with groceries in Powell River.
Powell River, a town of 18000 people and is 35min car ride from cottage. There is a movie theatre, gyms, restaurants, museums, galleries, shopping, golf and various activities. Hiking forest trails, all water sports, including excellent diving, are available. Powell River has been called a 'Cultural Capitol of Canada' for its promotion of the arts, such as choral competitions and festivals.
There are ferry services to and from Powell River, and a Transit Bus from Powell River to Lund, passing by our property access. Other than that, you will need a vehicle, bike or hiking boots.
We, Cindy and I, are living in harmony with nature . Our location is back in the forest by the ocean in a big garden. As we are off the electrical grid we are generating our own power, using solar and micro hydro. We are artists and artisans, we build wooden kayaks and other boats, some furniture, breed Leonberger dogs, garden for food and flowers and play music. We travel sometimes to dog shows and to concerts. We love Dave Matthews Band and, as children of the 60's, we are rooted in that music. Our motto is a DMB quote: If kindness is you king, you will know heaven before you die.

Because it simply is paradise
Silent oceanfront, privacy surrounded by forest, ocean and gardens
Thank you for sharing your fantastic property with us, we felt like we were visiting family. The ones we actually like. ;-) We really enjoyed our stay, spending most of the days exploring the beaches at low tide with the kids and fishing in the canoe when the wind and seals would leave us be. Our evening were very relaxing in the cabin looking around enjoying the structure, moldings and the workmanship that went into making it. As the sun went down each night the kids went to bed easy, tired from the days activities and excited about what they were going to do tomorrow. We wanted to spend more time exploring the trails and forest around but that along with the mountain biking will have to wait till next time, we will be back.
The cottage was well equipped and we especially liked the handy head lamp to help us see at night. So peaceful, sitting on the porch listening to the bees busy collecting nectar from the clover plants. Easy path to the ocean and a beautiful trail into the forest leading to a waterfall. The trail is well marked and beautifully maintained as part of the sunshine coast trails. We enjoyed our visit to Lund, nearby and enjoyed Nancy's bakery as ell as the waterfront restaurant. Our host sings at a local restaurant called the laughing oyster which commands a magnificent view of the ocean. The road to the cabin demands careful attention to miss potholes, but adds the sense of really getting away from it all.
My husband and I wanted to spend our 50th wedding anniversary in a peaceful, private setting. We choose Forest Garden Cottage because it seemed to perfectly fill those requirements. It did that and so much more. The little cabin is a jewel, so complete and cozy. There was a little stream beside the cabin with a mother duck and her 4 babies that gave us quacks as we went in and out. We harvested oysters, picked strawberries, hiked, read and relaxed. I would go back again in a minute. British Columbia is a gorgeous place, loved it and every minute we spent there. The hosts are delightful and leave you alone if that's what you need but are willing to share with you if you want that.
The cottage is very comfortable and easily accessible to SCT trail and the water. The garden is lovely and full of fresh veggies as needed. We loved the quiet peaceful location. Our hosts were helpful and extremely welcoming. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.
What an amazing little hidden gem. The cottage is lovely, comfortable, has all you would need. Can have a cozy fire if cool out!! A great place to get away for awhile and play on the ocean beach or just rest and read. Cindy, your host, is amazing and will make certain you have what you need for a comfortable stay!!
Thanks so much, I will plan to come again,
I can't say enough good things about our stay at this quaint little cabin. It was perfectly situated -- off the beaten track but not too far, right at the head of gorgeous Okeover Inlet, and within close walking distance to a section of the Sunshine Coast Trail. The inlet is littered with oysters, and Jurgen and Cindy were so kind to share with us their oyster shucker and their tips for bbq'ing the oysters on an open fire and then sautéing them in garlic butter. Soooo good! Jurgen and Cindy and their lovely dogs were all very welcoming. We loved seeing their home and the shop and the puppies. The cabin was super cozy and well equipped, and we enjoyed many hours sitting outside by the pond alongside the cabin, in a patch of sunshine with a campfire going. We missed our chance to get out in the canoe unfortunately, but the hike we did was lovely. Hopefully we can return again!
There are two salmon runs in our Toquenatch Creek, October and November every year.
