About the property

The Edgewater Bluff Retreat. For the escape of your dreams, stay in this charming high bank waterfront home on the Hood Canal just north of Poulsbo. Wake to the sounds of birds and sea life or just the quiet. You can sit in the park-like gardens or on the deck, and watch the eagles soar or boats go by (even submarines). In the evenings, eat on the deck and watch the sun set behind the Olympic Mountains.

If you are feeling more adventurous, you can walk to the beach and collect clams, mussels, and oysters for dinner (with license), or use the community tennis and basketball courts. If duty calls, you can connect with civilization via wireless broadband internet throughout the house. Even work becomes tolerable when you do it in this environment. This is a place where activities abound, but even better yet, do nothing and just be.

Poulsbo, a charming tourist destination with waterfront shopping and sport activities like kayaking and sailing is 10 minutes away. Restaurants are plentiful, but world’s best gourmet food market (Central Market) with fresh seafood and meat markets, sushi bar, weekend barbeque, great wine selection, and not to mention, 15 varieties of olives in the olive bar, is only minutes away.

If you are into gaming, the Clearwater Casino is 20 minutes away, located in Squamish at the Agate Pass Bridge. Less than an hour from the retreat reside the majestic Olympic National Park, Port Townsend and Port Ludlow. 1 hour drive to the Pt. Angeles ferry and you could be on your way to beautiful Victoria, BC. Seattle is a short 30 minute ferry ride away. Simply walk onto the ferry and enjoy a perfect day of shopping/sightseeing in Seattle. Conclude your day in one of the gourmet downtown restaurants, all within walking distance to the ferry terminal.

Living area: Open floor plan with modern furnishings, unobstructed 200 degree view of the Hood Canal and Olympic Mountains. Digital Cable, DVD and CD players, wireless broadband internet access available throughout the house. Phone and answering machine.

Kitchen: Corian counters, microwave/dishwasher/oven, food prep appliances such as Cuisinart, blender, mixer, electric grill, coffee grinder, toaster oven, coffee machine, stovetop espresso maker. Gourmet cooking utensils.

Bedroom one has a queen-size bed. Handicap friendly bath with hand rails and seating in the shower, and a large washer and dryer. Bedroom two also has a queen-size bed, desk area, and full bath.

The deck has a barbeque grill, patio table and chairs, park benches, outdoor table, chairs, 2 lounge chairs.

About Sabine

We are busy medical device professionals who are based in the California Bay Area. We spend our time in California, Washington, and the Mediterranean coast of Turkey when not traveling for work.

Sabine purchased this house in 2000

Why Sabine chose Poulsbo

Living in the heart of Silicon Valley in California year-round, Edgewater Bluff provided us the much needed escape from the noise, the crowds, the daily hustle-bustle and the start-up company stress. For years, we did not feel the need to own a TV or have internet service. Simply sitting in the living room and looking out the window, reading a book or napping was very satisfying. We noticed that the clouds, the water on the hood canal, the reflection of the sun on the snow-capped Olympic Mountains, the colors and patterns changed constantly. With continuously moving wildlife, various small birds, bald eagles, occasional dolphins and seals or the naval vessels (yes, even a submarine), crab fishermen, University of Washington research vessels sailing by, we felt that we owned world’s largest “flat-screen”. We enjoyed the garden and its hundreds of species of flowers and plants lovingly and painstakingly maintained for many years. We entertained friends on the deck, sipping wine and enjoying the sunset. We no longer woke up to the sound of traffic under our window, but by a bald eagle flying by or seagulls teasing a goose. We did not realize it was so late when the sun stayed up past 10 p.m. during summer. We felt like we were in a different, relaxing, carefree world.

Beautifully appointed house with impressive water views

  • 5 of 5

The views of the water from this house are amazing. We even saw a Bald Eagle fly by. The house was just the right size for my family of four, and my kids loved going to the park down the street. We really enjoyed staying here.

Great waterfront home overlooking the Hood Canal

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable, well-equipped house within a relatively short drive from downtown Poulsbo (12 mins.) and the Kingston ferry terminal (22 mins); the Bainbridge terminal is a bit further (33 mins. unless the traffic is backed up). The view of the canal and the Olympics is fabulous and watching the submarines pass was a special treat. Do your grocery shopping at Central Market in Poulsbo; try out some of the good eateries in the area (including the Mossback Cafe in Kingston); and come back to warm yourself by the gas fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We rented this home for a work trip and fell in love with it. My husband and I will definitely be making another trip from Knoxville but up just for vacation time.

Somethings Better Something Not As Good As Advertised

  • 4 of 5

Overall the property was clean and all of the services (heat, plumbing, cable) worked great. Check-in & out was easy. The beds are REALLY FIRM- excessively firm. The pictures made it seem as though there were 3 different areas that have a view- that is not the case but the scenery was pretty nonetheless. The kitchen is better than the pictures and well appointed. There is a great woodsy drive-thru coffee place just north toward Hood Canal.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We have taken your feedback regarding the firmness of our beds and now provide options for guests who prefer a softer bed. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our wonderful views of the water and mountains that can be seen from the kitchen, living and dining rooms, and the expansive deck. Please keep us in mind for future travel to our area.
