The Edgewater Bluff Retreat. For the escape of your dreams, stay in this charming high bank waterfront home on the Hood Canal just north of Poulsbo. Wake to the sounds of birds and sea life or just the quiet. You can sit in the park-like gardens or on the deck, and watch the eagles soar or boats go by (even submarines). In the evenings, eat on the deck and watch the sun set behind the Olympic Mountains.
If you are feeling more adventurous, you can walk to the beach and collect clams, mussels, and oysters for dinner (with license), or use the community tennis and basketball courts. If duty calls, you can connect with civilization via wireless broadband internet throughout the house. Even work becomes tolerable when you do it in this environment. This is a place where activities abound, but even better yet, do nothing and just be.
Poulsbo, a charming tourist destination with waterfront shopping and sport activities like kayaking and sailing is 10 minutes away. Restaurants are plentiful, but world’s best gourmet food market (Central Market) with fresh seafood and meat markets, sushi bar, weekend barbeque, great wine selection, and not to mention, 15 varieties of olives in the olive bar, is only minutes away.
If you are into gaming, the Clearwater Casino is 20 minutes away, located in Squamish at the Agate Pass Bridge. Less than an hour from the retreat reside the majestic Olympic National Park, Port Townsend and Port Ludlow. 1 hour drive to the Pt. Angeles ferry and you could be on your way to beautiful Victoria, BC. Seattle is a short 30 minute ferry ride away. Simply walk onto the ferry and enjoy a perfect day of shopping/sightseeing in Seattle. Conclude your day in one of the gourmet downtown restaurants, all within walking distance to the ferry terminal.

Sabine purchased this house in 2000
Living in the heart of Silicon Valley in California year-round, Edgewater Bluff provided us the much needed escape from the noise, the crowds, the daily hustle-bustle and the start-up company stress. For years, we did not feel the need to own a TV or have internet service. Simply sitting in the living room and looking out the window, reading a book or napping was very satisfying. We noticed that the clouds, the water on the hood canal, the reflection of the sun on the snow-capped Olympic Mountains, the colors and patterns changed constantly. With continuously moving wildlife, various small birds, bald eagles, occasional dolphins and seals or the naval vessels (yes, even a submarine), crab fishermen, University of Washington research vessels sailing by, we felt that we owned world’s largest “flat-screen”. We enjoyed the garden and its hundreds of species of flowers and plants lovingly and painstakingly maintained for many years. We entertained friends on the deck, sipping wine and enjoying the sunset. We no longer woke up to the sound of traffic under our window, but by a bald eagle flying by or seagulls teasing a goose. We did not realize it was so late when the sun stayed up past 10 p.m. during summer. We felt like we were in a different, relaxing, carefree world.
What a wonderful surprise !
When I booked this home online for my brother's wedding, I had no idea how beautiful it would be.
I could sit on your deck forever, we did not want to leave !
Thank you - truly exceeding our expectations.
Generally all perfect reviews and wonderful pictures are too good to be true. I can say with 100% confidence that is not the case here. This place was absolutely wonderful and ideally located between Olympic National Park and Seattle. About a half hour drive to the Bainbridge Island ferry and another 30 minutes ferry ride to get to Seattle. Depending on where in Olympic you want to go it can be anywhere from an hour to 3 hours. Honestly either direction doesn't seem that far. The house is located on an extremely quite street with wonderful views of the bay and the mountains. There is plenty of room at the house to comfortably accommodate 4 people. There were only 2 of us on our trip so that made it even more roomy. We are already talking about returning. Sabine was very responsive to our emails and we never had any issues.
We were there to celebrate Christmas with our children (20 and 15). It was a wonderful place and it made our holiday feel like home. The place was beautiful and had everything we needed. The views and location were also perfect. I definitely plan on staying there again when we come to visit sometime next summer. Sabine was also great and accommodated our extremely early arrival on the 24th.
This was just an outstanding place for us to stay over our spring break . . . 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 11, 8, and 4) all fit comfortably. We used an air mattress that is provided with the house in addition to the two queen beds. The house is clean, well-furnished, and well-equipped. The view over the water and across to the Olympic mountains is absolutely stunning -- just a breathtaking spot. We took day trips into Seattle, riding the ferry, and also enjoyed walking in Poulsbo. We will certainly look for an opportunity to stay here again.
Visited in September 2014 and really just want to ratify previous reviews. This is a very nice, quiet and comfortable spot for 4 adults. It's not large (1200 sq ft, maybe), but nicely designed and exceptionally well-equipped. Not one complaint from us and that's unusual.
We enjoyed your wonderful view of Hood Canal and mountains from your home and deck. Weather was perfect
for us and we spent a great deal of time on your spacious and comfortable deck.
Your place was convenient to all of the area places that we wished to go. The kitchen was
well equiped and the furniture comfortable. We did have trouble with the beds being too hard for
our personal comfort. We appreciate the cleanliness of the entire home. We loved the garden
flowers and floral landscaping. Your resident eagle soared by several times.
Our daughter was getting married, and having the reception at the Red Cedar Farms. This home is only 6/10's of a mile form the venue. It made for a very convenient location to the event and to the town of Poulsbo. The home is very comfortable and well equipped. The photos don't really capture just how lovely the setting and view are:) The home was very clean and ready to go on time.
