About Joni Wiggins
Currently in California. Looking forward to moving to the big island in the next year to retire and run my Vacation Rental business full time. I want every person that stays at Blue Hawaii to feel the same way I did the first time I walked onto the lanai. Like I never wanted to leave. I could sit there all day-and sometimes I do- It's mesmerizing.
Joni Wiggins purchased this House in 2014
Why Joni Wiggins chose Opihihale
A friend offered up his Kona Vacation Rental for Thanksgiving 2013. We arrived at the airport, got our rental car and stopped as suggested at Costco on the way down, and after stocking up on a week's worth of supplies like coffee, steaks, wine, and beer, we headed south. When we saw the Kona Paradise sign, made the right hand turn onto Kaohe Road and started down that winding, breathtaking hill, we knew we were in for something beyond special-it was spectacular. After unloading the car, we found ourselves mesmerized by the most amazing 180° Pacific coastal views of the Kona coast. This wasn't just a vacation rental on an island in the pacific - this was a stunningly beautiful oasis that we had all to ourselves for a whole week. We could hear the ocean raking over the black pebbles on the beach below us. We watched for whales breaching, and dolphins cruising the coastline looking for fun and frolic. We slept among the stars on the lanai the entire time and swore that if an opportunity arose we would make this area our home some day. In 2014, we purchased Blue Hawaii. Our dream come true. It brought peace and serenity to our hearts and minds. Took us from our hustle and bustle go-go-go lifestyle on the mainland and brought us back to what was important. Us. Happy and laid back. Loving life. We hope your stay at Blue Hawaii can bring something back into your life that you perhaps have forgotten. Maybe a little relaxation, rejuvenation, and rediscovery. Come feel the difference of Blue Hawaii- You won't want to leave the lanai! Joni

Very nice place
We stayed three nights here. It is a very nice house with great view. Although our first two nights it rained a lot, so we didn’t get to see the sunset until our last day here.
Our second day we stayed in the house all day because of the storm. We lost power for an hour, but it was okay to just stayed put and listen to the sound of tropical rain. We knew where the flashlight were because of the very detailed instructions from the owner. Before we checked out, we went and snorkeled at the Two Steps for 45 minuets. It was about 15 minutes drive to from the house to Two Steps. We were to do this on our second day but because of the storm we lost one day of our planned activities. We were rushed trying to get out by 11am but we did it. Although I forgot to push the start button for the dishwasher, sorry about that.
The house has everything you need and very clean. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
The home is amazing with every amenity we needed. We couldn't get enough of the view!
Wonderful house, great view!
This house was just what we were looking for during our stay on the Kona side of the Big Island. The house is extremely clean and very well stocked. We had 3 couples and it was just the right amount of space. We really appreciated the extras like beach towels, snorkel gear, and the laundry facilities. Everything was so well organized. It's easy access, right off of Hwy 11, although be prepared for the really steep road and driveway. The only downside was the water pressure was low so we were limited to one "water usage" at a time (showers, toilet, laundry, hose to wash off beach gear, etc). We made do, but it was at times a bit inconvenient. It's about 30-45 min south of Kona so it took a little more driving time than we anticipated to get to a few of our activity destinations. Next time we would plan to cook more meals at the house since there aren't many restaurants nearby and dinners out meant more driving. It's a lovely quiet neighborhood... very peaceful and a perfect get away. The lanai is as advertised, great view, perfect for sundowners, and we even saw a pod of dolphins one morning. We definitely would stay again. Mahalo Joni!
Hello Vince and Karen,
We are so happy you were able to enjoy all that Blue Hawaii has to offer.
A couple of key points that we call out in our description of the property, is that it is rural, away from the hustle and bustle of Kailua-Kona. Also, the home is almost completely off-grid, which includes city water and sewage. We capture our water from the rain runoff from our roof. This means it goes into a catchment tank under the house. It is then pumped from below the house to the faucets. At times the pump cannot accommodate several loads of laundry, showers or washing of dishes at the same time. It is the nature of the beast-so to speak.
We hope this explains some of the shortcomings you mentioned in your review. We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review and give us feedback. We hope that you'll want to stay at Blue Hawaii in the future.
Mahalo-and safe journey's.
We spent 10 nights at the Blue Hawaii in February 2018. The view, interior furnishings, kitchen appliances - everything was just great. You can see and feel the owner's desire to provide a house which is in very good condition.
Mahalo from Switzerland
Enjoyed our visit very much. The house was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The Lanai, as advertised, was wonderful. Spent a great deal of our time out there enjoying the view and the constant soft breezes.
Lanai! Lanai! Lanai!!!!!!!
This is the third time I've stayed at Blue Hawaii. I know it won't be the last. You truly don't want to leave the lanai! The house is amazing! You step in the front door and immediately feel like you are home. There is everything there you can imagine. Comfortable beds, appliance stocked kitchen and that amazing lanai. Can you tell I'm obsessed with the lanai? There are so many things to do and see around this area. Two-Step, The City of Refuge, and it's a short drive to South Point. The owner got it right! Love, love, love staying there and definitely will be recommending it to my friends.
You will be within 10-15 minutes of Captain Cook's Monument, Ho'Okena Beach Park (Dolphins), Honaunau Bay (Two-step) is a ten minute drive away (great snorkeling), Pu'uhonua, o'Honaunau National Historical Park (City of Refuge - Sea Turtles), Multiple Coffee Tasting opportunities, Fresh Fruit Stands, Tastes of local Hawaiian delicacies, and beaches with Dolphin, Manta Rays and Sea Turtles. Rent a Sea Kayak and hit the bay or Snorkel off your own private Pebble Beach. Less than a 4 Minute drive from the house. Travel to an active volcano to watch its caldera light up the night sky, or just linger on the Lanai and feel the difference of Blue Hawaii.
