Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful, spacious home surrounded by peaceful woods.

Close to all the attractions that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park have to offer, yet nestled in tranquil woods, Ladyslipper Lane Cottage provides easy access to all the sights plus a quiet place to relax at the end of the day. Listen to the birds from the balcony of the master bedroom suite, or pick blueberries along the lane.

Ladyslipper Lane Cottage is a beautiful home filled with architectural details. The first floor has a post-and-beam great room. Its french doors can be closed to make a bedroom with the queen-sized sleeper sofa, or left open for visiting, watching TV, or playing the piano. There are two additional bedrooms on this floor, one with a queen-sized bed and the other with two twins. The first floor also has a full bath with laundry facilities.

Ladyslipper Cottage boasts a reversed-living design, with an open, vaulted-ceiling kitchen and living room on the second floor. The spacious and sun-filled Provencal-style kitchen and adjoining living space can be used for dining or relaxation. Attached is a half-bath powder room for guests.

The second floor also hosts the master suite. This stunning post-and-beam bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a large glass door leading to the balcony. The attached master bath has a deep tub for soaking, as well as a separate shower and double sinks.

The yard has a bench and chairs for outdoor relaxation and entertaining, as well as a gas grill. Kids will enjoy the swing set for hours. Parking is free and ample - the driveway accommodates 3+ vehicles.

Great Location, Loved the Blueberries!

  • 5 of 5

We were quite fortunate to rent this home last summer, as our original rental was canceled by the owner at the last minute. I'm glad we stayed at this home instead, because it worked out perfectly for our stay.

The description of the home was accurate, and the reverse-living style worked well since we traveled with two teenagers. They were able to enjoy living space, their own bedroom and their own bathroom downstairs, while my husband and I had a very large master bedroom and bathroom to ourselves.

The owner met us on Saturday, after a long and slow drive up from Boston that morning. We expected to arrive much sooner, and the owner did not have a problem with meeting us later in the day, so they were very accommodating.

Once we arrived, we were given a tour to show us around the house. The rooms are nicely-sized and the beds were very comfortable.

We were also very fortunate to have been there when the blueberries were in bloom. We went out early one morning and picked enough to make blueberry pancakes, and they were quite delicious!

The location is great. It only took about 10 minutes to get to downtown Bar Harbor, and about the same amount of time to get to Eagle Lake.

My only complaint has nothing to do with the house, but the town of Bar Harbor. Parking spaces are at a premium, and in some cases you are only allowed to park for two hours. The town should make provisions for the large amount of tourists that visit during a relatively short summer season.

Also, if you plan to visit Acadia during the summer months, take the shuttle. We attempted to visit Jordan Pond one afternoon and we couldn't find a place to park.

I would definitely stay at this home again. I hope to visit again some day.

Wonderful vacation in Bar Harbor

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this cottage for 7 days in July. It is a great location, close to town and Acadia Park, but remote enough for a quiet evening after our busy day. Biking, hiking, and kayaking are very close with easy access. In particular, we spent a lot of time in the Eagle Lake area. The cottage itself is large and has all the necessities. Furniture downstairs is dated and the seating upstairs is limited, but that was not a big issue for the 2 of us. WIFI was reliable. Cellular service was inconsistent in the immediate area, but not a problem in town.

Owners were great and we had no problems checking in or reaching them during our visit. The description on VRBO well represents the features of the home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. We will look into updating the furnishings somewhat before next year's season.

This newer post and beam home was perfect for our group of two couples, 2 teen boys, 1 teen girl and an engaged couple. Each married couple had a queen bedroom. The master was upstairs with its own bath suit and was outstanding. The two single gals shared a large room with twin beds downstairs. The 3 single guys shared the large downstairs living room: 1 on queen pull out sofa, the other 2 on air mattresses. We still had tons of room and a separate table area downstairs plus an upstairs living room plus kitchen eating area separate from the cooking area. The kitchen was well appointed and we made several meals there. The house definitely could handle a few more people if needed. The Outdoor space/grill/picnic area was fantastic and secluded. Wild blueberries along the property made a terrific breakfast addition. Short drive to town and very convenient to everything. Thanks so much to the owners for everything!

Harbor Lights & Starry Nights

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cottage is not only conveniently located to downtown Bar Harbor but makes access to Acadia National Park/Cadillac Mountain a breeze! Our family of four enjoyed all the amenities that town has to offer while also taking in all the day & night wonders of the park. The cottage itself is spacious and secluded and offers a peaceful retreat. It is very well-appointed (our daughter loved being able to play piano away from home) and quite comfortable making our stay an easy, satisfying experience. The owners are gracious and accommodating, making their guests' comfort a priority. Our next trip to Mt. Desert Island will hopefully include a stay the Ladyslipper Lane Cottage!

Perfect House for your Family

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved staying at this clean, quiet, spacious cottage. The location of this house is only about 10 minutes away from Bar Harbor and even less than that to Acadia National Park. We were able to enjoy biking in Acadia and kayaking in Bar Harbor. It's a great location because we were able to come back to the house to freshen up. This house is close to Cadillac Mountain which is perfect for sunrises and sunsets!

The house is equipped with board games for the kids, teens, and even adults in our family to enjoy. Monopoly kept us entertained when the weather was not cooperating. We also bought lobsters home to eat in the kitchen!

This is a great alternative to staying at hotels because it is spacious and your family can stay in one big house.

Great House, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage and its location are ideal for relaxing family getaways. The property is private and secluded, but located only minutes away from the breathtaking views of Acadia National Park and the shops and restaurants of Bar Harbor.

The house is well maintained and the owners left plenty of information on local attractions and activities. The accommodations are well suited to any age group and large families. The house has a lot of common space for game playing, sharing meals, etc... while each of the bedrooms provides privacy. We enjoyed picking blueberries in the yard, stargazing at night, and unwinding in comfort at the end of the day.

We loved our time at the house and the area. We had the right mix of outdoor adventure and comfortable surroundings.
