Close to all the attractions that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park have to offer, yet nestled in tranquil woods, Ladyslipper Lane Cottage provides easy access to all the sights plus a quiet place to relax at the end of the day. Listen to the birds from the balcony of the master bedroom suite, or pick blueberries along the lane.
Ladyslipper Lane Cottage is a beautiful home filled with architectural details. The first floor has a post-and-beam great room. Its french doors can be closed to make a bedroom with the queen-sized sleeper sofa, or left open for visiting, watching TV, or playing the piano. There are two additional bedrooms on this floor, one with a queen-sized bed and the other with two twins. The first floor also has a full bath with laundry facilities.
Ladyslipper Cottage boasts a reversed-living design, with an open, vaulted-ceiling kitchen and living room on the second floor. The spacious and sun-filled Provencal-style kitchen and adjoining living space can be used for dining or relaxation. Attached is a half-bath powder room for guests.
The second floor also hosts the master suite. This stunning post-and-beam bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a large glass door leading to the balcony. The attached master bath has a deep tub for soaking, as well as a separate shower and double sinks.
The yard has a bench and chairs for outdoor relaxation and entertaining, as well as a gas grill. Kids will enjoy the swing set for hours. Parking is free and ample - the driveway accommodates 3+ vehicles.
Lindsay and Joel have lived in Bar Harbor for more than 12 years. They have explored the Maine coast with their daughter and know some great spots for kids. They kayak, hike, and bike in Acadia.
Lindsay Shopland purchased this house in 2003
The home is spacious, clean, beautifully laid out and extremely well equipped for cooking, grilling, relaxing and reading. The location was ideal. We were able to bicycle nearby and access the Carriage Roads near Eagle Lake. We used a telescope at night to enjoy the stars. This is only 10 minutes from Bar Harbor. We hope to return there again in the future.
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful home ! Clean ,bright and beautiful! My 9 year old son woke every morning and ran straight to the raspberry plants to pick them for our family. We loved the spaciousness and convenience of this home. We miss it dearly already and hope to return here again in the future.
We were quite fortunate to rent this home last summer, as our original rental was canceled by the owner at the last minute. I'm glad we stayed at this home instead, because it worked out perfectly for our stay.
The description of the home was accurate, and the reverse-living style worked well since we traveled with two teenagers. They were able to enjoy living space, their own bedroom and their own bathroom downstairs, while my husband and I had a very large master bedroom and bathroom to ourselves.
The owner met us on Saturday, after a long and slow drive up from Boston that morning. We expected to arrive much sooner, and the owner did not have a problem with meeting us later in the day, so they were very accommodating.
Once we arrived, we were given a tour to show us around the house. The rooms are nicely-sized and the beds were very comfortable.
We were also very fortunate to have been there when the blueberries were in bloom. We went out early one morning and picked enough to make blueberry pancakes, and they were quite delicious!
The location is great. It only took about 10 minutes to get to downtown Bar Harbor, and about the same amount of time to get to Eagle Lake.
My only complaint has nothing to do with the house, but the town of Bar Harbor. Parking spaces are at a premium, and in some cases you are only allowed to park for two hours. The town should make provisions for the large amount of tourists that visit during a relatively short summer season.
Also, if you plan to visit Acadia during the summer months, take the shuttle. We attempted to visit Jordan Pond one afternoon and we couldn't find a place to park.
I would definitely stay at this home again. I hope to visit again some day.
My wife and I stayed at this cottage for 7 days in July. It is a great location, close to town and Acadia Park, but remote enough for a quiet evening after our busy day. Biking, hiking, and kayaking are very close with easy access. In particular, we spent a lot of time in the Eagle Lake area. The cottage itself is large and has all the necessities. Furniture downstairs is dated and the seating upstairs is limited, but that was not a big issue for the 2 of us. WIFI was reliable. Cellular service was inconsistent in the immediate area, but not a problem in town.
Owners were great and we had no problems checking in or reaching them during our visit. The description on VRBO well represents the features of the home.
This newer post and beam home was perfect for our group of two couples, 2 teen boys, 1 teen girl and an engaged couple. Each married couple had a queen bedroom. The master was upstairs with its own bath suit and was outstanding. The two single gals shared a large room with twin beds downstairs. The 3 single guys shared the large downstairs living room: 1 on queen pull out sofa, the other 2 on air mattresses. We still had tons of room and a separate table area downstairs plus an upstairs living room plus kitchen eating area separate from the cooking area. The kitchen was well appointed and we made several meals there. The house definitely could handle a few more people if needed. The Outdoor space/grill/picnic area was fantastic and secluded. Wild blueberries along the property made a terrific breakfast addition. Short drive to town and very convenient to everything. Thanks so much to the owners for everything!
This beautiful cottage is not only conveniently located to downtown Bar Harbor but makes access to Acadia National Park/Cadillac Mountain a breeze! Our family of four enjoyed all the amenities that town has to offer while also taking in all the day & night wonders of the park. The cottage itself is spacious and secluded and offers a peaceful retreat. It is very well-appointed (our daughter loved being able to play piano away from home) and quite comfortable making our stay an easy, satisfying experience. The owners are gracious and accommodating, making their guests' comfort a priority. Our next trip to Mt. Desert Island will hopefully include a stay the Ladyslipper Lane Cottage!
Located in the center of Mount Desert Island, adjacent to Acadia National Park. Lady Slipper Lane Cottage is 7 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Only a 3 minute drive to Eagle Lake and carriage roads for biking, fishing, hiking, birding. Several hiking trails are within walking distance. Blueberries abound in this alpine neighborhood.
