'Sur la Mer' is a delightful cottage situated on the Caribbean coast of Saint Lucia in the Marisule section of Gros Islet. The cottage is located very close to East Winds Inn. The cottage is approximately 20 minutes by car from George F. Charles airport (SLU) and approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Hewanorra airport (UVF).
The cottage offers privacy, yet it is still close enough to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Rodney Bay area with its fine restaurants and nightly entertainment. Enjoy a fabulous view of the Caribbean Sea from the cottage’s covered verandah, take a swim in its swimming pool or take a walk along the ocean’s edge through a wooded path to the beautiful beach at the world-famous Windjammer Landing Hotel. If you are looking for a truly relaxing experience or for a fun-filled vacation, this is the cottage for you.
The cottage overlooks Choc Bay the gateway to Castries harbor. Castries, the capitol of Saint Lucia, is the main center of commerce on the island. Cruise ships arriving in Saint Lucia tie up at the docks in Castries harbor. From the cottage’s verandah you can watch the cruise ships, as they arrive. Or, you can daydream about days gone by, as you watch the tall-ship Brig Unicorn sail past making its daily trip from Rodney Bay to Soufriere.
'Sur la Mer' is designed to take full advantage of its seaside location. All major living areas open onto a large, covered verandah, which faces the pool and the Caribbean. The cottage offers the best of outdoor living. Take in the views of the Caribbean, as you eat a wonderful candlelight dinner either on the verandah or in the living and dining room. Relax and savor your favorite tropical drink while enjoying the sun setting over the Caribbean.
The cottage offers two bedrooms, each with French-style doors that open onto the cottage’s verandah. A third bedroom is available, which is ideal for one person. The master bedroom affords the comfort of a private bathroom, while the other bedrooms share a bathroom. The two main bedrooms each have twin beds, which are made up as king size beds. The two main bedrooms have ceiling fans and air-conditioners.
It is your vacation! We want to help to make it one of the most enjoyable and memorable vacations of your life. 'Sur la Mer' has maid service five days a week. If you want to feel pampered, shopping and cooking services can be requested. Other services, such as automobile rentals and day tours, can also be arranged. Just let us know what it is you want!
'Sur la Mer' is ideal for a couple seeking a romantic getaway, friends wanting to relax by the sea or a family just looking to spend some quality time together.

Dorothy and I have been retired since November of 2006. We now spend our time traveling. We just love traveling, but we are always glad to return to our home in Saint Lucia. We have made so many friends in Saint Lucia, and every time we return it is like coming home. Sur La Mer is a very special place. We are always so pleased to share it with our guests, and we hope that all our guests will have the same sense of joy that we have. It really doesn't get any better than a day at Sur La Mer. We hope that we have the opportunity to share our little piece of paradise with you.

John De Young purchased this house in 2004
When we would Sur La Mer in 2004, we were instantly taken by the view. There was no pool then and the house and grounds were in desperate need of care. Once we walked through the front door and looked to the sea, we knew that all the work needed to bring this wonderful property back to live would be totally worth it. We were up to the challenge, so we took the plunge. We have not regretted it.
Exceptional View, large pool with infinity-edge, short walk to beach, fantastic verandah, private (but not remote) location, close to shopping and night-life, well equipped villa
A belated email to say what a truly wonderful time we had at your perfect house in St Lucia. We just loved every minute and were devastated not to get marooned there due to any volcanic ash cloud! What a special place - sitting on your verandah with nothing in sight but the Caribbean Sea is truly magical and feels like there is no one else around. We also had some wonderful meals in Rodney Bay (Buzz was especially friendly and great food) and a fun day out to the Pitons, Volcano etc. We would just love to visit again next April...
All the best and a big thanks for your wonderfully helpful team in St Lucia. Luenda was lovely, Robert hugely helpful and the car hire lady just brilliant.
This place is amazing. It's very comfortable and relaxing. The view of the Caribbean is great. Having a private pool is the best! John and his local staff are wonderful. They will take care of whatever you need. John answered all our questions and made our trip easier. We rented a car which was delivered right to the villa. We were close to great restaurants, beaches and Rodney Bay Marina. If you're looking for something quiet and with privacy, this is it! We ate breakfast every morning on the veranda with an amazing view of the Caribbean. Also, the sunsets are gorgeous whether your relaxing in the pool or lounging on the veranda. The housekeeper Luenda and on island agent Ena are very friendly and very helpful. Luenda will even cook you a meal or shop for you. We even arranged for a couples massage on the veranda which was so relaxing. This place has incredible charm and is the perfect place for that romantic trip where you can avoid the masses. Overall, this was an incredible honeymoon for my wife and I. Thanks John for having it available. It was truly a vacation of a lifetime.
We, two couples in our forties, escaped from the last kicks of winter in Switzerland to this paradise where you can stay all the time in shorts and t-shirt.
In the process of booking the two last weeks of March 2015 it was great how fast the owner, John, responded to my mails. He was also very helpful and gave very good advices. His on-island-agent Ena was also very helpful and gave great advices for sailing, horseback riding and a hike up the gros piton.
The house is located in a beautiful, remote area. It is at the end of a dead end street and pretty quiet. You hear the noises of the birds, frogs and insects more than anything else. :-)
Nevertheless in 10-15 minutes you can be -by rented car or taxi- in Rodney Bay or Castries with all its restaurants and supermarkets.
The size of the house felt just right for the 4 of us. It was neither too big, nor too small. Having the wonderful pool to ourselves was better than we expected. Many times a day we would go for a short swim to cool off a bit and refresh. We ended up going less to beaches and staying more around the wonderful house. Reading, sleeping...just relaxing.
The view of the ocean from the house and especially from the infinity edge pool is breathtaking. Sipping on a cool Piton or Heineken in the pool while the sun is melting into the ocean is something I can highly recommend. ;-)
Even from the bathroom of the master bedroom you can see the ocean.
The whole stay even exceeded our already high expectations. Everything was as described. I can highly recommend booking a stay at this wonderful house in paradise.
We had an amazing stay at the Sur La Mer house. I think that they describe the property very well, and the staff did an excellent job making sure we had a great time. Starting with John as I dealt with him during the entire booking process was an absolute pleasure, he was very fast with responses, and it was nothing but a great experience booking through him. Luenda was the housekeeper, she was great, I highly recommend taking advantage of her cooking, as her authentic st. lucian meals were better than most restaurants we ate at. They were our favorite meals of the trip. Paul was a great taxi/shuttle service, we originally were going to use a rental car, but once we got there we just decided to relax more instead of constantly being on the go with a rental car. We used Paul's service for the shuttle to and from the airport, which I do recommend as it is a long drive back to the house from UVF airport, and he will stop at the store if needed. The local bus is great, it cost about 60 cents US, and we used it every day to go to Rodney bay, Gros Islet, and North Pigeon Fort island. There is a stop for the local bus right at the bottom of the street for Sur La Mer, so it was convenient. However, just for your awareness it is a beautiful, but hilly walk to and from the main road from the house. We used it as a good exercise, but if you don't like walking I would say to just use the taxi service right to the house.
Property: was Amazing, view is exactly as shown in pictures, very private, and as they say "million dollar views"
House: very nice, as described, the decks were great to hang out on and relax. I do recommend bug spray as mosquito's can be quite annoying, but to be expected with tropical environments.
Recommendations: Have Luenda cook a few meals for you, Curry Chicken was Amazing!; Gros Islet Friday night "jump off" party was a great time, great street vendor food, and I personally liked Castro's bar before the party got started to hang out at; Don't overdo yourself, relax at the house, it is truly a gem; North Pigeon Fort Island was right above Sandals Grande, we hanged out at the beach along there and it was great. The restaurant on North Pig. Fort Island is awesome, very cheap and great food. The short 10-15 minute walk to the top is well worth it, it has AMAZING views;
Thanks for everything, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, God Bless and look forward to next time.
what a fantastic fortnight we have had at Sur La Mer. Admittedly for the first week we experienced most of your annual rain fall but that didn’t deter us at all. As a family with an 18 year old son and 16 year old daughter we are quite particular in what we want from our summer holiday - absolute privacy, a pool, wifi and close enough to a decent selection of good restaurants so we can eat out. Sur La Mer ticked all of those boxes and more. Without a doubt, the view over the sea is the best view we have ever had from any hotel or villa we have every stayed in and the six outside seating areas meant we were outside, sun or rain, all day and everyday. One of the things we liked were the little touches that you wouldn’t normally expect - for example leaving a local mobile for us to use - we just topped it up with £5 credit and used it to book restaurants and trips.
Main highlight would be our two trips out with Jus' Sail on their wooden hulled yacht which we can’t recommend highly enough. Favourite restaurants would be Jacques Waterfront and the Coal Pot for dinner and Spinnakers on the beach for light lunches, day time drinks and late night cocktails. Best snorkelling was at Ti Kaye beach.
All in all we have a had a great break and have throughly enjoyed ourselves - thank you.

We spent 10 days in this spectacular home. The location can't be be beat. You can walk to the beaches at Calabash Cove and eastwinds/Windjammer Landing. Close to the nightlife in Castries and Gros Islet. Spectacular views of the Caribean and the beautiful infinity edge pool. The house is well equipped and couldn't have asked for more. Luenda is so sweet and gracious. We spent our mornings and evenings on the wonderful patio with comfy furnishings just having out at sea. This was our 8th trip to the island and the people we love and treasure. We have made many lifelong friends. Our favorite beach Smugglers is just a 10 minute taxi ride in Cap Estate. We enjoyed dinner at Cliff at the Cap and Tapas as well as sunset drinks at Ladera. Look up Typhoon tours for a wonderful day of boating around the island. Spent the day around Souffrei and in sulphur baths and refreshing waterfalls. Take advantage of the wonderful massage on the patio! Horseback ride on the beach. Saint Lucia is just as described ...simply beautiful! We will be sure to book Sur La Mer again. Thank you for sharing this magnificent home with us! Sharon Nugent New Market Maryland.
I have been meaning to email you since the day we returned home from Sur La Mer back in November!!
I just wanted to share with you that we had an AMAZING time and enjoyed the house as well as the island more than we could have ever imagined. We have had some great vacations in the past but having the privacy of the home and it's location (with beautiful view) was simply outstanding. We've never been resort people and usually stay in a condo when we travel, but this was even better!!
Additionally, I must thank you for your information about the Morne, especially your recommendations for the Pink Plantation. We ended up having a day of rain (our only one) the day after you had responded to my email. So, we went adventuring in our car and stopped at the places you mentioned. We ended up having lunch at The Pink Plantation and had the entire deck to ourselves, as we were the only guests dining. It was pouring rain and we loved sitting on the huge deck just watching & listening to the rain. The food was incredibly great!! I was able to snap some amazing pictures of the grounds when the rain stopped for about 20 minutes.
Overall, we just had such a great time and I sincerely appreciate how responsive you were to every email I sent you throughout the entire process of booking the house, etc. This quality stood out to me immediately and was one of the things that made me feel like I really wanted to book the house. I can tell that you and your wife truly care about this home and the guests who visit.
We had discussed trying another island out for 2014 (prior to going to St. Lucia) but now we are talking about returning to St. Lucia. We can't imagine staying anywhere else if we do end up returning this November.
Again, I really can't thank you enough for your continual follow-up, answering questions, and most of all, making your amazing home available to us! You have no idea how much we truly loved and appreciated our stay there!!!
