We stayed at Ban Chai Talay for 6 days over Easter 2014. The apartment is excellent with almost everything you need. Claus is very helpful and available if you need anything.
The apartment has direct access to the long beach at Hua Hin and is well located for easy access to Market Village shopping centre and the centre of Hua Hin – about 2/3 km. The condo complex is on a ‘Songtaew’ (public bus) route and you can catch a Songtaew to the centre of Hua Hin or Market Village just across the road from the entrance to the Ban Chai Talay complex. A one way trip is 15-20 baht per person. If you don’t want to wait for a Songtaew then there are a couple of taxi firms across the road but they are more expensive at 120-150 baht in total for a one way journey – so worth it if there’s a group of you. All the tuk tuk drivers in Hua Hin know where Ban Chai Talay is so there’s no problem getting back after night out in the town.
The gardens are beautiful with a number of interlinked swimming pools flowing down to the beach. The whole complex is extremely clean and well looked after. The guards at reception are very friendly and helpful.
The apartment itself is very spacious, very clean and fully equipped including very good wi-fi access. The kitchen is also well equipped with all you need – though a microwave oven would be a welcome addition. The complex is a bit older than a lot of the new condos which have been built in Hua Hin recently but the apartments are in excellent condition and you get much more space than many of the newer condos for the same price. There is a lovely, shaded patio area where you can sit outside and it is a few steps from one of the swimming pools.
I’ve stayed in quite a few condos/apartments in Hua Hin over the last 4/5 years and Ban Chai Talay is one of the nicest we’ve stayed at – excellent value for money and conveniently located for the beach, shops and restaurants. We loved our stay there.
We stayed at Ban Chai Talay for 16 days over New Year (me, wife and 2 year old) and thought the apartment was splendid with two notable exceptions. Positives first though. Lovely apartment, 2 good size rooms, great access to the truly fantastic pool. Claus was marvellous, really kind, and organised some basic food for us when we arrived. He was also really great when my pregnant wife had some nasty pains and he took her straight to the hospital. Thanks again, Claus.
The apartment also has access to a very nice beach and there are shops and restaurants not too far away, especially if you turn left out of the reception area - Sunset Boulevard cafe is very handy, run by an Englishman and they will do takeaway meals to the apartment. It's actually not easy to access information while you are there, so it would be helpful to do lots of research beforehand on what to do and where to go. I'd recommend seeing Hua Hin vineyard, maybe doing a boat trip to Monkey Island (a real scream) and golf is good at Majestic Creek and Banyan Tree (the latter is a fantastic course although quite pricey.) A car would probably enable you to see more - cabs are available and inexpensive but you need to do more planning than if you had a car.
My gripes were that the kitchen is quite hard to use (the hobs were super fierce and difficult to cook on) and more importantly for us the wifi reception (and mobile/3G reception) was awful. We rely on it a lot, and not having it was a real problem. Other than those fairly minor gripes I would highly recommend the apartment.
