La Grange is a restored, detached barn set in approx. an acre of garden. We are situated on a plateau above the Dordogne valley with views of the surrounding hills. We are at the end of a single track road so it is a very peaceful location with no through traffic. There are 2 patio areas, 1 directly outside your main doors ,which gets the first morning sun, the 2nd overlooks the garden and is very private. There is plenty of garden furniture and also a barbecue. Your car parking area is alongside your patio for easy access to your accommodation. The rest of the garden is mainly lawned with seats in various locations where the views can be enjoyed. Beyond our boundaries it is mainly woodland, walnut groves and meadowland. There are plenty of beautiful walks right from your door. We are resident owners so are on hand for any helpful information you require but will fully respect your privacy. This is a great place to relax and unwind with lots of tourist attractions close at hand
Birdwatching: For all those keen birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts, like ourselves, we have black and red kites, buzzards, golden orioles, hoopoes, various woodpeckers, nightingales and lots more. There are also foxes, deer, badgers and pine martens in the area.
Welcome pack: There will be a welcome pack on arrival which usually consists of a bottle of wine, in season fruit, milk, tea, coffee and sugar.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Grange. After the hectic pace of Paris, the peace and quiet and the twittering of little birds was very therapeutic. Walking in the area is lovely and lots of beautiful medieval villages are close by. We even ventured as far as Pech Merle and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (highly recommended). La Grange is very spacious and comfortable and Jan and Mick (and Molly) are very friendly and helpful. If we ever make it back to the Lot region (long way from Aust.!), we would definitely stay here again.
La Grange really offers us all we could need. Its location is perfect, in a rural setting and the owners are next door - they are very helpful indeed.
Our third visit here and it does feel so comfortable and offer spacious accommodation which is spotlessly clean (and that says quite a bit as I am fussy!)
Equipped with all you could need for a holiday and nice outside space with large table and chairs - we even entertained our friends who live locally with no problems at all.
Excellent woodburner for those cooler evenings - is has been unusually cold here for May but the relaxation is great, whatever the weather.
I would highly recommend a stay here and we can't wait to come back again and explore our favourite area of France.
Thank you Mick and Jan for all your help and hospitality.
We decided to stay in this area for a holiday after passing through the previous year and selected La Grange because it offered the essentials we required. As we are self employed and need to be in constant touch internet access is very important but along with the internet came just about everything we could have asked for.
The blissful peace of the garden and the very well equipped house meant that we actually had a holiday this time. We have been trying to buy a home in France for some time but never really found a place that we felt comforable with, until we found the Carrenac area. We did view several houses during our stay but have now decided to try to buy a barn and do a conversion. We will be returning in February 2012 to continue the search. Thank you to Jan and Mike for being such great hosts and thanks to their barn for inspiring our onward quest to own one of our own.
La Grange is a lovely gîte. Very clean, well decorated and well appointed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in a beautiful setting where all you hear is the singing of the birds.
We recommend it without any hesitation. We would go back in a heart-beat!
This is a lovely restored barn into a 2br,1 bath very nicely appointed gite. It is very clean and well maintained and in a great location to explore the sites in the Lot!! It is in a lovely location and very quiet and the owner was very good to work with.
We would definitely recommend this gite to any traveler
La Grange is 5mins drive from Carennac, which is a famous medieval village along the Dordogne river with the old priory at its centre. It is bustling with visitors during the summer with a choice of restaurants and bars and a helpful tourist information office. There are lots of other beautiful villages to visit within short drives of here. Rocamadour, Collonges le rouge, Turenne and Sarlat to list just a few. The caves here are amazing and well worth a visit, the nearest being Padirac 10mins drive away. We have two very good Parc Aquatics, also within 10mins of here, with excellent outdoor swimming pools. The attractive towns of both St Cere and Bretenoux are 15mins drive and have all our main supermarkets, busy weekly markets and lots of good restaurants and bars. The chateaux are all around, one being visible from the single track road as you descend onto 'La Grange'.
