About Tim & Kathy Shearer
Hello, we are Tim and Kathy Shearer and are the owners of Laurel Creek Cabin. We live in sunny south Florida with our three beautiful daughters. We love the warm weather and beach here, but we also love to get away and go to the mountains and stay at Laurel Creek. We decided to let others stay at our lovely cabin in 2004. Of course many of our close friends and family jumped into the offers we gave to them. They all loved it and that's when we opened it to all to enjoy. We hope you will be our next satisfied guest....God Bless....Tim & Kathy
Tim & Kathy Shearer purchased this Cabin in 2003
Why Tim & Kathy Shearer chose Murphy
We decided to buy in this location because of it being in the tri-state area, meaning within minutes to TN, NC, and GA. We also liked the peacefulness and all the many places to see and do in the area. We had been coming to this area for five years and decided just to buy since we loved it so much.
What makes this Cabin unique

This cabin is located in the most amazing location. The kids loved the creek and the tire swing. We had an amazing time and the owners are very helpful and friendly. There was plenty of room for our family of six + pet.
I'm glad to hear you had an amazing time at our cabin. Please come back and stay with us again we'd love to have you. No... God bless Tim and Kathy
Nice N Easy
The cabin is super clean. The woodwork throughout is gorgeous.
The light in the day time was beautiful streaming in through the windows. And it was wonderfully dark at night!
Beds were comfy. The sound of the creek is a major highlight.
Hosts were wonderfully responsive, and I had a nice n easy, sweet and simple birthday celebration with my daughter and our dogs.
I absolutely recommend going up to the Great Smoky Mountains from the cabin, as the drive through the Nantahala Wilderness is spectacular. As is of course, the views and sights inside the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
It was a much needed get away from Atlanta, and I'm grateful to have had the experience.
I am so glad you had a wonderful time at the cabin and a wonderful birthday. Yes you're right about the drive to the Smoky Mountains it is breathtaking. We always like to stop in Bryson City and go tubing there to one of our favorite spots just outside the Smoky Mountains. We all need a little break from what's been going on and I'm glad you enjoyed and relaxed and had a wonderful time once again. May God continue to bless you thanks for staying at Laurel Creek and we hope to see you again... Tim and Kathy
Relaxing and peaceful
Beautiful clean cabin with a country feel. Hot tub was great for my sore back and body pain. Nicest place I have ever been to.
Thank you for the wonderful review. I am glad that you had a wonderful time at the cabin and that all your standards were met. We want all of our guests to feel at home just like you did. May God bless you ... Tim and Kathy
Great for a weekend getaway
My husband and I were looking for a quick weekend getaway to socially isolate for a few days. We decided to book a cabin at the last minute so I can’t say we had much planning time to go through numerous rentals and locations. We picked a spot on the map and just looked at what was available. Our experience was overall great! While no vacation or rental is perfect, this was great for what we were looking for, which was an extended weekend away. I’ll list out pros and cons for those who would like to know what staying here is like.
Pros- quiet, creek is right in the back of the property, perfect creek sound to listen to on the back porch, hot tub was clean, most everything was already there, and the cabin itself was good- cute decor and adequate space for a small family. The yard had some fun activities such as horse shoes, a tire swing, and cute little camp fire area. We tried fishing in the creek but didn’t catch anything.
Cons- this property is not secluded, in fact it is in a little neighborhood with house on the right and back side of the property. The owners do a good job of creating privacy with large trees but you will still be able to see into the yards of the neighbors. The house itself could use some updated appliances. The fridge, oven/stove, and washer/dryer have all had a good run and could be replaced. Don’t get me wrong, they all worked Just fine but cosmetically speaking they looked outdated and worn down. The cleanliness was just okay. There was a few bugs, (mainly outside) but you are in the middle of woods and in a cabin so that’s to be expected. The beds were okay and some towels could be replaced (thin and with holes) but all in all, we enjoy our stay here.
I will say if you are wanting to stay here in hopes of being close to things such as hiking... this would not be my first choice. The nearest waterfalls and hiking were all about 45-60 mins away. The closest we found was Leatherwood Falls which is nice and it was 30 mins away but know that the bigger falls and hiking trails will require some driving to get to them. We also did Panther Top, which was about 50 mins away and it was a short nice hike and view of the top tower. If we had more time to stay we may have ventured further away but we decided to keep our drive times to 2 hours or under. All in all, this property was just fine for what we wanted and I would stay here again.
Thanks for your nice review and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We will look into replacing some of those things that you were mentioning about. We always want our guests to feel right at home when they come and stay at Laurel Creek. Hope to see you again sometime....Tim & Kathy
