The cottage was built only a few years ago. It is a true studio with only the bathroom separated from the living space. There is plenty of living space with a full size leather couch and a reclining chair. A separate TV area has a loveseat. The dining area is setup for four people. The sleeping area has a new queen size bed and is separated by a desk and bookshelf arrangement. The full bathroom includes a washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, lots of handmade cabinetry, and a back splash of mahogany and Mexican tile. The ceilings are cathedral and covered with Maine cedar.
Located in a wonderful neighborhood the cottage is a 7 minute walk to town and the harbor. The library park overlooks the harbor where sailing, kayaking, and lobstering trips are available. The area is lined with benches for just relaxing and taking in the view as windjammers, yachts, and the local lobstermen come and go. You may want to hike or drive up Mt. Battie for an incredible view of the bay and the islands, after all this is where the mountains meet the sea. Shopping and dining are diverse and extraordinary with several award winning restaurants nearby, or you may want to grab a lobster roll to go and head for a scenic rocky spot by the ocean. Just endless delightful possibilities. If you are bringing a canine friend Camden has a wonderful 2 acre dog park and several places where a dog can swim in the lake or the ocean.

My husband and I recently spent an enjoyable week at Beach Plum Cottage. The cottage itself was charming with its profuse and welcoming garden in front and its airiness inside. The cottage’s architectural design, with its use of a large number of windows and a soaring ceiling, took full advantage of the setting and allowed natural light to stream through the cottage. Even though the cottage did not have a separate bedroom, the cottage was designed to provide privacy with a built-in desk and shelves which divided the bedroom from the rest of the space. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed: the kitchen was well stocked to meet our cooking needs, and there was even an outdoor grill on the front patio; as well as ample towels and linens and washer and dryer. Located on a quiet residential street within walking distance of town, the cottage is ideally located for strolls to town or trips along the coast.
We enjoyed our stay in Camden with its pretty harbor views, unusual shops and historic charm. Close by is Camden Hills State Park, where we hiked and enjoyed stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding area. Other highlights included dinner at Shepherd’s Pie in Rockport, a day trip to Monhegan Island, a stop at Sweetgrass Winery and Spirits near Union and of course, getting to know Stephen, our host, who was very welcoming and friendly and his cute dog, Willow. We will have many fond memories of our three weeks in Maine and our stay at at Beach Plum Cottage. We highly recommend it for both short and long-term stays. We hope to visit again some day.
Thank you, Stephen, for your hospitality!
This is a lovely one room cottage, laid out so that it feels very spacious. It is very clean, and well stocked with all the necessities for meeting our vacation needs. The owners live in a house on the property and are very pleasant. Downtown Camden is a short walk away. This cottage was exactly as described on VRBO. We plan to return and would highly recommend this VRBO for any couple seeking a great stay in Camden.
Outstanding. Just as advertized. Lovely brand new looking cottage 1/2 mile from the center of town. Easy walk. Landlords live behind the cottage and are very helpful. Will rent again when back in the area.
I just read the previous reviews and I found them very complete! There are no surprises. This wonderful place to stay is as nice as it sounds and as good as described. The owners, Stephen and Janet, lived in it themselves while building the main house and it is not just well designed but beautiful. This isn't just a place to lay your head at night but more of a small sanctuary to rest your soul. Sounds like hyperbole but that's the way both my wife and I felt about it. Only downside was that it was so comfortable sometimes we would find ourselves dawdling in the morning and not getting out to enjoy the day as early as we had planned to the night before!
Dear Fellow Adventurers,
If Beach Plum Cottage is available for your dates, book it now. Don't delay.
The cottage is adorable. Everything you need is provided. It is located on a quiet street just a short walk from the Camden Harbor. There are plenty of shopping and dining options along the walk. Also several churches.
The cottage has a full kitchen well equipped and a grill on the porch. A full service (Hanniford) super market is a short drive away just at the town line. Also there is a great seafood market (Graffam's) close by where you can buy lobsters that just came off the boats.
You can make easy day trips to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Rockland, and Port Clyde. There are several ferries which make is easy to visit charming offshore island villages including Islesboro, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Monhegan, and Swan's Island.
Stephen and Janet the owners of Beach Plum are great hosts. Janet has a green thumb.
She may invite you to pick a seasonal berry or veggie. Even if you are a novice you can hike up Mount Battie. Great picnic spots here. There may be a free concert in Library Park during your stay. Sunday morning there is a great boat excursion that takes you to lighthouses in the region. Also you can rent a kayak and paddle to Curtis Island at the harbor entrance. This is a great place to spend a few hours enjoying nature. (Pack a cooler with your favorites.) Small sailboats are also available.
At the end of your day you are never far from your comfortable cottage.
Forget Portland. The port is full of tankers. The streets lined with beggars. Lodging is crowded. The mid-coast of Maine is the region to see. And Beach Plum Cottage is the place to stay! This will be a vacation you long remember!
This cottage is a wonderful place to stay! All new, beautifully finished, very nicely appointed and a generous walk to Camden harbor. Everything you could need is available for comfortable living and the owners are very responsive to requests. We loved staying there and will not hesitate to return.
Camden is the heart of midcoast maine, besides all the great attractions available in the immediate area it is easy to enjoy other areas not very far away such as acadia national park or a ferry out to vinalhaven for the day.
