How best to express divine? How best to express happiness? How best to express serenity?

Well I might start by saying my husband I decided to start our list of "Paradises" starting with this very spot! It became our "Paradise #1! We later collected other "Paradises" in Kos, Turkey .. Kyoto, Japan ..

Valparaiso, Chile and a couple of others who qualified among the many places we have traveled!

But this very spot was our first! We LOVED the total privacy provided by trees, shrubs, flowers around the lovely pool devoted just to our use .. PLUS the gorgeous beauty of it all. We so appreciated the serenity and ability just to let down and relax away from the busy world .. with total privacy respected by Viviane and Gerard our SUCH gracious hosts! BUT we shall NEVER forget their fantastic invitation and introduction to the regional dish of " Cassoulet"! Oh to die for! Did we ever fall in love! Matter of fact .. when we arrived back in Paris we ran to the Paris grocery story .. found THE most expensive Cassoulet and packed it into our luggage to take home. However upon returning home to our chagrin .. even the most expensive brand did not approach what they had introduced us to!

Now to the practical .. we just loved the villa itself .. just lovely overlooking the pool .. bedrooms upstairs .. all very comfy .. couldn't ask for more .. kitchen nicely equipped. We were perfectly happy there! Would love to go back .. but with life intruding .. so many wonderful places in the world to visit .. who knows if/when .. but it certainly would not be because we wouldn't LOVE TO REVISIT!

You will be most happy there I am quite sure!

Paradis fleuri

  • 5 of 5

Parfait!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

The city of Carcassonne is primarily known as a medieval walled city. But its history is much older: oppidum turned in the first century AD in Roman city, the city becomes the eleventh century the possession of the powerful Viscount Trencavel which then dominates the Lower Languedoc. At the end of the crusade against the Albigensians the city, with new fortifications, became one of the strongholds symbolizing kingdom, on the border between France and Aragon.

The construction of the outer wall and the modernization of the inner rampart make this place an impregnable fortress.

With the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659 that connects the Roussillon to France, however, the city loses its strategic role, leaving abandoned its defenses. In the nineteenth century, thanks to the joint action of Carcassonne and Historical Monuments entrusts its restoration to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, the ancient fortress regained its former appearance. It is now included by UNESCO on the list of World Heritage Sites.

It remains the most formidable fortified complex that can still be admired in Europe. A real rock anthology: throughout its three kilometers of ramparts, through its 52 towers, two gates, its barbicans, its castle and its Basilica, in the maze of its crenellated ramparts, staircases, baffles, and water gates, reads like a book the whole architecture of the Middle Ages.

On the western side of the fortification rests the castle, built in the twelfth century by the Viscounts Trencavel. Continually changed over the centuries, it is a real "fortress in the fortress", which now houses a lapidary museum. It features a large collection of relics from the city and the region: Regional sculpture from Roman times to the seventeenth century, stelae, sarcophagi, capitals, basin Fontfroide Abbey (twelfth century), a magnificent Calvary Villanière (XV century), murals, statues, ...

The Basilica of Saint Nazaire was completed in the first half of the twelfth century. Redesigned several times, the building harmoniously combines Romanesque and Gothic styles, and has the most beautiful stained glass windows in the south of France (thirteenth and fifteenth centuries). It loses its cathedral status in 1801 to benefit the St. Michael's Church located in the Bastide. She received in 1898 the title of Basilica.
