Guestbook comments from the owner

“Just wanted to say we had a marvellous time in Atrani and the owners were charming.” by Richard O'Sullivan - Cricket Coach and his family from London, September 2006. 'We have now returned from Italy and would like to thank you and your lovely parents for assisting us with our holiday. The apartment is well situated for the beach and everything was in good order. We enjoyed the festival of St Andreas in Amlfi and visited Pompei and Revello. So thanks and good luck with your summer bookings.' S. & A. from London. 'Thats Atrani apartment is wonderfully situated very close to Atrani shops, restaurants and the beach. We found the local people very friendly and helpful. Amalfi (and Ravello) can be reached by walking through a picturesque series of winding passages passing houses carved into the cliffs. The views of the beautiful Amalfi coastline from the highest points of the walk are stunning. The apartment was comfortable and remained cool.' S. from London

Kind hosts, tidy and peaceful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts Teresa and her husband welcomed us very warmly and friendly and helped us in many ways during our stay. For example, we were two hours late, and to our surprise, they were waiting for us by the street. They also helped with parking and showing tips for the apartment and the surroundings.

The apartment itself was very tidy and peaceful. It's location in the middle of the village and at the same time just by the beach is ideal. Atrani is a great place to stay, peaceful with beautiful surroundings and easy to reach Amalfi, Ravello etc. There are a couple of very nice restaurants in Atrani and the beaches are clean and peaceful.

Thank you Teresa and her family for a wonderful stay. Special thanks to her husband for the help with our car problems!

A disappointing tale

  • 1 of 5

Although the apartment is delightful (if you don't mind going through one bedroom into the other - so no good if you don't want people passing through your bedroom at night), our 4 night stay was unfortunately ruined by the faulty electrics, which cut out during Saturday afternoon, meaning we could use the heaters (which we really needed as it's a very cold apartment), watch TV, even have a reading light or put the kettle on. I couldn't charge my mobile, my frail, elderly parents were absolutely freezing and all we could do that evening was go to bed. In the morning it was so cold, we really had no option but to head out for the day as soon as possible. Whilst I understand these things happen, the response of the owners has been very disappointing. I was told that if I'd contacted them at the time, they could have looked into it, but without a charged phone and unable to leave my parents in the dark apartment while I hunted in the streets for a phone box, this wasn't possible. Their representative told us it had happened to another family on a previous occasion - so I was further disturbed to learn this wasn't the first time there's been an issue. Any discomfort we felt and the lack of services available to us that we'd paid for has just been ignored. The owner has her money and really doesn't care whether our holiday was spoilt or not. Very selfish attitude and quite annoyed to think she can get away with it.

Owner's Response: Dear S.D., Thank you for your review. The electrics were and are in good working order (please refer also to the reviews received before and after your departure) and nobody told you otherwise. As you know, we have a standard 3 kW contract with the national grid, which foresees the overall load not to exceed it. If 3 kW threshold is exceeded then the latest switched in appliance to exceed the installed capacity would seem like the cause of the overload. We cannot assess what happened on that Saturday, possibly an overload, probably a water spill triggering the safety switch or an issue with the national grid. If you had reported the stated problem in due time we would have solved your issue in 10 minutes, the time needed to walk to our apartment. It remains a mystery why you did not report your inconvenience on the following Sunday, in fact you let us know of it only when we requested by email a review few days later you vacated the premises, which was followed by your outlandish demand for partial refund "let me know if you would be willing to make a partial refund". We were also very surprised that you wrote "I'm offended that you think an offer to stay there again with a discount would be acceptable", once we offered you a voucher on your next stay as you expressed the intention to return with your friend, considering your words "I'd probably return as I think your apartment is lovely for a couple and in a good location", which you value as one out of five stars. Rest assured the stars you missed will always be present here under the warm sky of the Amalfitan Coast for those who have illuminated eyes to see them (from our windows too). Kind regards, Enza Pagano

A lovely place to stay, in a scenic, central location

  • 5 of 5

My 2 friends and I stayed here for 3 nights in mid-May. The location is ideal because it's only a 10 minute walk from Amalfi's plaza and marketplace, but nicely removed from the noise of a central area. The house is very comfortable- a king size bed and then a twin bed and sofa, plus a kitchen and dining room space. The shower pressure is somewhat lacking, but other than that nothing was wrong with the space! We had a wonderful time :)

Great apartment overlooking the sea

  • 4 of 5

Great location overlooking the sea. Apartment had all the desired amenities. We couldn't get hold of the host when we first arrived and Maria was late on departure, but overall the stay was good. Easy to walk to amalfi and the bus stops right outside the apartment.

In love with Atrani and a great stay!

  • 4 of 5

This little flat was great! It was very close to the beach and also to the town square. Living amongst the locals here with their chatter and smells of italian fare. Maria was an excellent hostess, she gave 110%. The only thing I hoped was different was the smell of mildew even though it was spotlessly clean. Most likely because of it being an ancient building and close to the water.

Car: not necessary

Atrani is a medieval village close to Amalfi which is a 4 minutes stroll along the corniche overlooking the sea. In times gone by Atrani was the residence of the aristocratic families of Amalfi and home of the Republic of Amalfi's nobility. The secret of this little town lies in its characteristic Piazza Umberto I, rendez-vous for people of different cultures that have chosen the Amalfi Coast for a relaxing and pleasant holiday. The stone-paved paths between Atrani's houses ascend from the Piazza towards Monte Aureo and Monte Civita where the village was built and carve themselves a niche among the two rocky hills, the Dragone river and its quiet beach; much to be preferred to that of overcrowded Amalfi. Atrani is located in the heart of Amalfi Coast: 4 minutes walk from Amalfi, 20 minutes by bus from Ravello, 40 minutes from Positano, one hour and half from Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum and 2 hours from Naples.

In Atrani there are five restaurants where you can enjoy being served fresh fish directly from the sea to the dining table. The menu of exquisite gourmet which are available from each restaurant include: mussels au gratin, fish au gratin, seafood Scialatielli (fat spaghetti), S. Andrea style spaghetti, penne pasta with crab meat, Sorrentina style gnocchi, fish soup, 'Crazy Water' style fish, assorted grilled fish, Scialatielli (fat spaghetti) with clams and zucchini, reef paccheri (shellfish pasta), 'Baracca' style ravioli, assorted fried fish, seafood appetizers, fish baked in salt crust and tenderloin filet with green peppercorns.

Other Activities: trekking from Atrani to Ravello and Amalfi following old paths used before the streets were built. Boat rental facilities can be found nearby.
