We gave up the big city and moved here from the coast for the peace and quiet of country living after Tom retired.
Liz & Tom purchased this house in 2005
We purchased this and in 2005 bought a 25 yr old panabode cedar log home and re assembled it here on the property, completely refurbished it inside & out. After 2 years of enjoying the home and all this area has to offer we decided to move into a small suite in the basement and offer the home to vacationers in the summer months so they could enjoy this little piece of heaven here in the Shuswap.
No matter what time of year it is there is are always wild animals such as a herd of deer coming through the yard, we call the front yard 'deer highway' and in the spring when the pond is full of frogs you can hear them as you fall asleep. There have been moose walking up the driveway and on the road out front as well. There are little lizzards and other creatures in the tall grass and just recently we had a huge turtle walking across the yard. It is a beautiful feeling to co exist with nature in their own habitat. These are experiences we have never had living in the city and wish to share with those of you that also don't get to be this close to nature on a daily basis.
My wife and 3 children spent a week at the property and really enjoyed our stay.
Shannon beach is 5 minutes away and a great place to relax. Lots of other activity options close by. Liz and Tom are there if you need help and also respect their guests privacy.
This was our second time visiting Liz and Tom's cabin. Usually we like to try a new place every year but we liked it so much that we returned a second time. This is ideal for anyone looking for complete peace and quiet. Our family enjoyed the large green space and saw hawks, eagles and deer. We also had a nice small campfire and enjoyed looking at the shooting stars together. There is a nice beach close by with good swimming. Our hosts Tom and Liz are there if we ever need anything. The kitchen is spacious and fully stocked with all the supplies you could possibly need for cooking a nice meal. Has a nice cabin feel but with all the modern day conveniences. Overall a great holiday!
We arrived after a long drive to a big beautiful home that was welcoming and oh do clean. Liz and Tom were very accommodating with any request and helped highlight some of the sights to see in the area. I would definitely be using this vacation rental again.
We were two single ladies (55+) looking to escape the city life but wanting to be able to rest and relax while enjoying the comforts of home. This rental exceeded our expectations. It was so nice to have a huge kitchen fully stocked with anything you might need to have an in home meal. No need to bring anything with you other than your food. There was plenty of cupboard space for your groceries and all the appliances, utensils, dishes, cutlery, dish towels, etc., again exceeded expectations. The butcher block island was awesome for food prep and made it so easy to have two cooks in the kitchen at once. The home itself was so spacious and functional. A lovely two sink bathroom with lots of counter space, towels fully stocked, a deep tub and shower. So nice to freshen up in after a long day in the sun.
The owners live downstairs but you would hardly know they were there. You enter from the back of the property and have your own lighted deck, Barb-B-Q, large private yard area, a fire pit and picnic table and access to the pool table. If you want to have a view of the mountain you can simply step out from the living room on to the second deck and enjoy sitting out on the patio furnishings.
The property is huge and provides a safe environment far from the road for people with children. The kids would no doubt, like us enjoy watching the deer that frequent the property, looking for woodpeckers in the trees, frogs in the pond and if they are really lucky they may see the otter. I especially loved the bull rushes which were always a favorite of mine when I was young.
Liz and Tom made sure our stay was everything we had hoped it would be. They are awesome folk so much so that we were motivated to ask them to come around back and enjoy a campfire with us one evening. This lead to us having a great evening conversing around a crackling fire and sharing like interests and life stories like old friends. On their advice one night we took in The Jade Buffet in Salmon Arm followed by cheap movie night in Salmon Arm ( $5.00) we also went to High Country Trail Rides to Horseback Ride in Salmon Arm and Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge in Chase, B.C. to visit and learn about donkeys and their welfare. The kids would love it as the refuge likes to give you the opportunity to get up close and pet the long ears.
It was a great place for those long country walks, sun tanning on the beach and pretty much any water sport you can imagine. Definitely going back! Loved it!
The property was well taken care of. House was very clean and had everything we needed! It was a wonderful stay. Tom and Liz were very friendly and accommodating.
When we came to the cabin, Liz and Tom reviewed the cabin with us, and showed us the property where we would be staying. We were told that they would provide extra water, and were available via phone, text if we needed anything, or had any questions.
The cabin was very nice looking, and had plenty of room for us all. The kitchen was very spacious with lots of cupboard space and storage for food, and supplies. We had a spacious laundry area to do laundry, store supplies, and recycle the bottles, plastics and cardboard.
There was a large outdoor patio where we could have a meal, or even catch the suns rays...
We did notice and come in contact with were many centipede type little creatures that would be frequent in the bathroom and the kitchen. The bathroom had no fan so it became quite damp and musty smelling after the showers. There were screens on the windows. IT was a system that you would open up the screen and then turn the window handle to open up the window. This was not the best method to keep our bugs.We found these little creatures in the tub, behind the toilet, in the sink and often had to shake them off of our towels. In the kitchen, we often found them in the oven mitts (one time we found 3-4 of them at one time on the oven mitts supplied), behind the sink, on the floor, and in the cupboards. I even found one time in a bowl that had oranges in them, small black markings that either looked like their "droppings" or something else.
When we had left the cabin to enjoy the Canada Day parade, we found lots of beetles in our lawn chairs. When were were packing up to leave the property on the last day we were there, we had to pour hot water down a lot of our outdoor toys, and items to eliminate a lot of these centipedes or beetles from them, They left the same black markings that we had found inside all inside the items outside.
We also were asked if a contractor could come have a "walk through" while we were staying there. I truly believed that this should have been done after our contract was up and were were gone, not while we were there.
About 4 minutes down the road was "Shannon Beach", which was a nice beach to go to and a convenience store close by.
We cut our stay short because of the infestation of the bugs. We left 5 days earlier than expected.
We didn't realize when booking that the owners were staying at the property. The cabin was clean. However I would not recommend this property.
