About the property

3 Br, 1.5 Bath at Water's Edge. 150' of Sugar Sand Bottom, No Stones.

The moon rise over Lake Leelanau and the breath taking views of the stars at night from the dock are two of the many things our family has been enjoying about this cottage since the early 1960's and now we'd like to share it with you. It's perfect location on Robinson's Bay just 1 mile south of Leland is ideal for the water skiing enthusiast. Calm water is why this bay is one of the premier locations for skiers and tubers. For the serious skier there is the opportunity to ski our submersible water ski slalom ski course. For the family with children, this is a perfect swimming location. The cottage sits 50' from water's edge. Hard sand bottom gradually slopes out for a gentle decline and there is not a stone in sight! The dock has a 6' x 12' section at the end of the dock for sun bathing and boat hoist for boats up to 20' in length.

Our comfortable home has been completely remodeled from top to bottom. We have two bedrooms with queen size beds, one of which has a gorgeous view of the lake. The third bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. From the large well equipped kitchen you enjoy views of the lake and can comfortably seat 8 people around the dining room table which sits beside a huge picture window. We have a large living room with new 28' flat screen TV and DVD player and a screened in porch with comfortable seating on vintage wicker furniture.

A large deep lot surrounds the cottage and offers privacy from the road and room for the kids to run and play. Enjoy our fire pit on the beach in the evenings or grill the perfect burger on the Weber grill.

Our ideal location gives you easy access to all the restaurants and shops in Leland as well as a short 10 mile drive down the road to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Can fill you in on all the amazing things this county has to offer the guests to our wonderful county. It truly is 'The Land of Delight'!

We want to make your vacation the absolute best it can be and we look forward to meeting you!

About Diane Allington

I was a teenager in high school when my parents bought 'the cottage' in the early 60's. My brothers and I grew up on a cherry farm in Suttons Bay and my parents bought this home on the lake so we could enjoy both the farm and the lake.

Diane Allington purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Diane Allington chose Northern Michigan

We use to laugh about having a cottage only 14 or so miles from our home, but what better place to live and vacation in then Leelanau County! My mother Agnes, who will be 90 this fall, is no longer able to live alone and happily agreed to let us rent out her wonderful home so that more people can come to know the magic of this special place. The beauty is unquestionable, the quiet so peaceful, and the memories inspiring and lasting!

What makes this cottage unique

From the moment you get up in the morning to enjoy a good cup of coffee on the porch to the quiet moments on the dock at night looking up at the milky way and wondering how the stars can seem so close your vacation will renew your spirits and refresh your attitude on life. It just doesn't get much better than this! Don

Relaxing and Friendly

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Michigan and we cannot imagine a better experience! This little cottage was neat and tidy. It was perfect for the two of us, although there was plenty of room if we had been traveling with family or friends. The location was perfect. Not only very close to downtown Leland, it's just a short drive to several quaint, neighboring towns. Sleeping Bear Dunes is not far either. The views from the cottage were amazing. We rented a small motor boat which we were able to keep at the dock on the property and enjoyed fishing Lake Leelanau nearly every day. What made the trip extra special for us was the kind and friendly interaction we had with the owners. Don and Diane were attentive and full of great information about the area. We definitely recommend staying at this Lakeside Cottage!

Gorgeous Location, Beautiful Hard-Sandy Beach

  • 3 of 5

We loved loved the location and the Owners were fantastic and very receptive! So many close-quaint towns & options to sight-see. We rode our bikes into Traverse City by catching one of the park & ride locations 6 miles out TC--what an awesome day trip! We locked up the bikes and walked the downtown, eating at the Little Fleet Food Truck complex, AWESOME. The house was big and roomy for multiple families and had all of the kitchen & family amenities needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I would have given 5 stars however, there were a few things that could have been disastrous. First, the deck leading out to the waters edge was VERY slippery and one guest slipped going doing to his knees--thankfully, not hurt! The constant drip from the roof and the bucket to rinse your feet created a perfect storm for a moldy-mossy slip hazard. Secondly, the sliding screen in the same location came off the track several times (just worn out) with one time badly slicing the top of the the 10 year old's foot when he tried to stop it from falling. This next issue, was of one of no ones fault ... not sure if the "itch" came from right outside the house or when we rented the boat and went to a few sandy areas or both. Whew, it affected some of us really bad and some not a itchy-bump in sight, guess they were not allergic. Overall, a great rental experience for all of our families :-) We will recommend in the future.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry to hear our guest's child was hurt! We have taken immediate steps to fix the situation with the screen door and have fixed the deck as well. We have heard that the Lake Association is taking steps to help remove swimmer's itch from the lake, unfortunately a problem our of our control.

Living in Paradise for a Week!

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to complete this review truthfully because by doing so I risk someone snapping it up before I can book again next year. But I can't stop raving about the great time we had when our family rented this lakeside cottage on Lake Leelanau

over the holiday weekend. We definitely plan to book quickly for same time next year!

We touched base with the owner to confirm check in time and Diane was waiting for us as promised. She immediately made us feel at home with her warm hospitality as she gave us a quick tour and provided great tips on the area.

The cottage is large, comfortable, spotlessly clean, and was perfect for our family's holiday gathering. The view from the cottage is magical! The lakefront property is well maintained and has everything you need to enjoy staying onsite the entire week (sturdy dock, lawn games, kayaks, outdoor deck w/table & chairs, bbq), and the location makes it easy to explore nearby Fishtown, Suttons Bay, Northport, Lake Leelanau Village and Glen Arbor.

We saw Leland's fireworks over the lake and went on a private tour of Leelanau Peninsula wineries with Bob from Grand Traverse Adventure Company. After an exhausting day at the Dunes Climb, we played outside lawn games until dark then moved inside to the large kitchen and continued with more games. There's plenty of shopping available in nearby towns and a variety of eating options (Leland Mercantile groceries, ice cream, nice restaurants, family friendly places, Roman Wheel carry out pizza, etc.).

Thanks so much, Diane and Don, for opening up your home to us. We usually stayed closer to Traverse City on the east arm of the Bay and travelled to Old Mission Peninsula, Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Charlevoix and Mackinac. We rarely got to this western part of "Up North" and look forward to going back again and again.

Fantastic Home on Lake Leelanau

  • 5 of 5

Great home that worked perfectly for our two families. Great yard and deck, plenty of outdoor furniture allowed us to eat outside every night. Sand bottom shallow beach area and dock made water activities fun. Splits the difference between Lake Leelanau Village and Leland. Great fire pit for evenings and making smores. Large family room made the short-lived rainy parts easy on everyone.

On the Lake

  • 5 of 5

We just rented this lovely, bright, well equipped lovely cottage so close to the lake. Nothing but good things to say about this pleasant experience. oops, One of our party did get the swimmers itch while there but otherwise enjoyed exploring and paddleboarding. Darn weather wasn't the best but I love all the variances-so fun to watch a storm roll in through the many and large windows facing the lake.

Favorite place in the world

  • 5 of 5

We loved this lakeside Cottage. We were greeted by the owners upon arrival for a tour of the property and the lake front which was very helpful and appreciated. They were so thoughtful; they even set up a special sports package for their cable so that we could watch the World Cup finals. It is a well furnished cottage, and includes a row boat and a fire pit outside. We actually used both during our stay! The kitchen is well stocked and there is a washer and dryer. The property is beautiful and right on the lake - no need to cross over M22 to get there.

The master bedroom, porch and deck have incredible views of the lake. Our favorite pastime was simply sitting on the deck outside with our coffee or glass of wine while the kids played frisbee or went swimming. We used the Weber grill almost everyday. The family room was large and had no problem accommodating us with our four children and my mom. We watched movies and put together puzzles every evening.

We rented bikes from Grand Traverse Bike Tours who delivered them to our door. We rented a pontoon boat from On the Narrows marina in Lake Leelanau for a day; enjoyed St. Mary's Chicken Dinner as well as an incredible dinner at Bella Fortuna in Lake Leelanau. The kids loved the sailing classes at the Leland Yacht Club, browsing for books at Leelanau Books, the pizza at Bluebird and ice cream at Harbor House. Our favorites: Bel Lago Chardonnay, smoked salmon from Carlson's, and the cherry/coconut scones from Trish's Dishes. Don't forget to take home some cherry jams from the Brownwood Farms store in Leland - they made great gifts. Another wonderful activity is to get sandwiches from the Village Cheese Shanty and picnic by the river - there are some tables right behind the Bluebird. Leelanau County is our favorite place in the world, and this cottage is the perfect location.
