Trulli Sulla Colina
A beautifully restored trullo that offers outstanding accommodation in a breath taking hill top setting overlooking the Val D'Itria. This is a spacious and well appointed trullo property that has been thoughtfully restored retaining the charm and character of the "trullo" that is characteristic only in this region of Italy. Nestled in the countryside and yet only 5 minutes from the famous town of Alberobello it offers a high degree of seclusion being set within it's own expansive grounds with 100 olive trees, as well as almonds, figs walnut and cherry. The approach to the property is along pretty stone walled, country lanes dotted with farmhouses and trullis where you will see local Italian farmers taking a pride in tending their land and olive trees.
The property offers privacy and amazing, far reaching views over the Val D'Itria. This is a character property with trulli cones, vaulted ceilings, stone walls and stone and marble floors. The property is well designed, retaining all the character of the traditional trullo whilst offering very spacious and flexible accommodation spread across 2 wings. The layout offers a rare opportunity to benefit from some independent living with additional cooking/bathroom facilties and relaxation areas or indeed enables smaller parties to spread out and enjoy the luxury of more space. We are set up for families with babies and are able to supply cots, highchairs as well as the smaller but important items such as steriliser, changing mats, baby bath, childrens cutlery and crockery etc making this a popular choice for young families.
There are different outdoor areas to relax and enjoy. The trullo has a large private heated pool, a poolside gazebo and comfortable high quality sunbeds, all set in an enclosed garden (that is gated and lockable - a further safety consideration) in an elevated position. In addition there are 2 further seating areas immediately surrounding the property. To the South (front aspect) the property has an extensive patio that is set up with a permanent large marble table offering an alfresco dining option under the shade of a terracotta canopy roof structure. The East patio offers a wonderful setting for watching the sun rise and breakfast alfresco or enjoying shaded dining in the heat of the day. There are quality aluminium tables and chairs on all patios as well as poolside. The roof terrace offers another experience, particularly at sunset where cocktails can be enjoyed whilst taking in the far reaching views across the valley.
The games room offers good entertainment to both children and adults alike and we have bikes available for guest use (x2 adult bikes and x2 11-14yrs approx. age) we can also arrange additional bike hire. We also have set up for guests access to a range of services including tours, pasta cooking evenings, and inhouse dining with a local chef preparing and serving a wonderful Puglian dinner in the comfort of the trullo. There is reliable wireless internet that is accessible throughout the property and also outside.
The setting of the trullo is what makes this property really stand out from the many being advertised. It is accessed from beautiful country lanes (ideal for walking and cycling) It's set in its' own grounds on a hill surrounded by olive, cherry and almond trees with the most fabulous uninterrupted and panoramic views across the countryside to the Val D'Itria. The views are stunning by both day and night. It is just so peaceful - no traffic or aircraft noise at all. The only thing you will hear is the sound of hens, sheep and occasional dogs barking. The large roof top area is a great place to watch the sun go down and for star gazers it truly is a paradise with little light pollution to get in the way. The property is secluded but not isolated. The closest neighbour is situated nearby at the end of the long drive who are typical elderly Italian farmers who are very kind but keep to themselves but they do not overlook the property in any way. Other neighbouring properties are dotted around on the approach but not visible from this wonderful property. If you are looking for privacy, seclusion but within easy distance of the unique and wonderful town of Alberobello then this will suit you perfectly.
Getting to Trulli Sulla Collina: Bari and Brindisi airports are conveniently located, both within an hour from the villa. There are regular flights into both airports from the North and the South of the UK. If you fancy stopping off via Rome or Milan there are cheap connecting flights from both down to both Bari and Brindisi. Alternatively there is a good train service to Bari from Rome. Another route is via Naples with an easy 3 hour (approx.) drive. Car hire is essential. (Google Earth Grid Ref. N 40° 45.156 E 017°14.215).
Family Entertainment: Knowing how important it is to have varied entertainment Sulla Colina offers guests access to a separate games room a great refuge for teenagers, with darts, table tennis, table football, giant connect 4. In addition we provide 2 flat screen TV's and DVD's, with a good size and varied selection of films to suit all ages, library books and board games are also available. Being music lovers ourselves we have invested in good quality music systems in both wings - in one wing we have a SONAS streamer and in the other we have facilities to connect wirelessly through an amp. We have a couple of small trikes for toddlers as well as pool inflatables and beach toys. We also provide bikes for guest use as this is a truly wonderful region to explore and very safe with minimal cars on the surrounding country lanes near the property.
Internet Access: The property offers wireless internet access
Activities , we are happy to arrange some special activities for you to increase the enjoyment of your stay e.g. Cookery lessons in pizza/pasta making, a Puglian chef to prepare and serve you in the trullo, help with car hire or indeed sporting activities on the coast. On booking we will pass your details onto our guest services team who will be able to support you in ensuring you get the most from your holiday.
The wings are configured as follows:
1. East Wing - this has its' own entrance off the south facing patio and is the traditional trullo wing, with beautiful cream stone trullo cones, in the main living area (snug) that add great character to the property. There is a main seating area in the large cone where the music system, TV etc are set up. There are in addition 2 smaller cones - one set up like a small office area, with desk, the other as a quiet relaxation area with easy chairs. A central fireplace separates this room from the dining room and kitchen area. Off this room are 2 large bedrooms (one set up as a double, the other as a twin) and 2 bathrooms with showers. There is a back door onto the east facing covered eating area and patio. Cream stone floors throughout with good quality (antique and modern) furnishings and very comfortable beds with white cotton bedding. The kitchen in here is small but well equipped with its' own oven, hob, fridge, freezer and dishwasher.
2. West Wing - this has its' own entrance off the south facing patio and is the larger wing and is a traditional style Italian building with tall ceilings, stone and marble floors. The main room is an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge. The kitchen is well equipped with its' own oven, hob, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. A breakfast bar offers a nice area for preparing food and for socialising whilst you cook. There is a dining area opposite with an extendable table and then a comfortable seating area with sofas and TV. The 4 bedrooms are accessed through a door (which does mean you are able to close off the bedrooms if you have young children from any noise happening in the living area) off this room and are situated along a corridor along with 2 bathrooms with showers. There are 2 good size double rooms with large double beds, a twin room and a single room. All bedrooms in both wings have mosquito nets and portable fans.
The grounds are extensive and completely surround the property on all sides. The wider grounds are planted with olive, cherry and almond trees and left in their natural state, the grass just being kept cut. The grounds closer to the property have been landscaped and planted with shrubs and trees. The pool area is separate and is another landscaped area that has been enclosed with stone walling, railings and is gated. The gate can be locked using a combination padlock that we leave available for guests. The pool is heated and retains a good temperature for swimming even in the off peak weeks, there is also a cover for the pool so when the nights are cooler this cover retains the heat overnight. The pool is open from April to end October.
There are many choices of seating area all having differing aspects. The south facing patio has a covered eating area and a large in situ marble table and chairs with a further extension of the patio that is under Italian oak trees that offer natural shade. Both wings have direct access onto this patio. There is an east facing patio again with covered seating area, set up with a good size round aluminium table and chairs and extends beyond the covered area for sunbathing etc
There is extensive patio area for seating surrounding the pool area as well as a covered gazebo to offer poolside shaded relaxation/ dining as an option.
There is external lighting in all these areas that is time controlled so will come on automatically together with pool lights.
Finally there is an extensive roof terrace that is accessed through a locked gate at the rear of the property with a flight of stone steps that accesses onto the whole roof area. There is a light that lights up the steps but the roof terrace is unlit so as to benefit from the amazing vista of stars. It's a great place to sit on the low walls and take in the views at sunset.

About Jenny Turner
I am married with 3 children, 2 grown up girls of 25 and 22 and a son of 15. I used to run my own business that focused on supporting organisations to develop excellence in customer service - something I am passionate about. This focus on a positive service experience is at the heart of what I look to achieve for our guests. I know myself how I want to be treated and I look to ensure our guests get a really positive and memorable experience when they choose to holiday in our villa.
Jenny Turner purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Jenny Turner chose Martina Franca
We fell in love initially with the position of this property with its truely stunning views across rolling hills. Compared to the many others we looked at this was the one that stood out from the crowd. We have not been disappointed. The views during both day and night are spectacular - it really offers peace and tranquility and yet is only 5 minutes drive from Alberobello. The other attraction as well as being a trullo that exudes character, was its' unique layout being in 2 wings. We love to holiday with friends but also value a degree of privacy and independence at times which this offers. The icing on the cake is the close proximity to Alberobello, a thriving and totally unique town with a wonderful atmosphere and many good quality restaurants where we love to try the local wines and thoroughly enjoy all the wonderful italian culinary delights.
What makes this Villa unique
The Layout - we can offer something a little different for the more discerning guests that want the enjoyment of holidaying with other family or friends but also wish to have some personal space and privacy. The stunning views afforded to you as you sit by the heated pool relaxing in the peace of the countryside A pool that is enclosed offering greater peace of mind when travelling with young children A management team that share my vision of providing a truly memorable experience for our guests and go above and beyond in meeting requests for various leisure pursuits - whether it be pizza making lessons, a private chef or for the more active Segway tours, cycling, golf or sailing.

Beautiful villa, highly recommended
My family and I stayed at the Sulla Collina in August 2010 for my brothers wedding in Alberobello.
The booking experience was a very pleasant one thanks for Jenny, who was extremely helpful and gave us lots of tips and advice before we left...there are also folders in the villa and trulli recommending local restaurants/beaches/supermarkets etc..
The pool is very refreshing on a hot day, the gardens and very beautiful and well tended. We meet the property Manager Steve on our stay and he was very helpful (especially as we got lost on the way to the villa, Steve actually came out to greet us and guide us in which we extremely grateful for!). The villa is remote so you will definitely need a hire car as there is no public transport and even the taxis struggled to find it on the one night we did have to use one.
The remoteness was a charm though as it was so blissfully quiet!
The villa and trulli are very well equipped, a real 'home from home' with DVD player and a choice of DVDs, flat screen TV, dishwasher, washing machine, BBQ etc. Fantastic large fridge and freezer too which meant you could stock up for the week and not have to leave the comfort of the villa.
Lots of things for the kids to do which inflatables/toys/dvds etc if they are not content splashing in the pool.
The bedrooms are large and comfy and the bathrooms are very clean.
We didn't make it to the beach, which I believe is 20 mins away, as we couldn't tear ourselves away from the serenity of the pool area.
I would highly recommend the villa and/or trulli to a large family wanting a private, peaceful break.
PS - Make use of the plug-in mozzie repellants provided in the rooms...I didn't on the first night and paid for it!
My family and I cannot express just how much we enjoyed this villa, not only as a holiday but we were able to double this with our son's wedding in the picturesque Alberobello. To say we were impressed with the facilities would be an understatement, everything you could want and more was in this property. The care and advice that Jenny gave was 1st class, the management team at the villa was also top drawer.
The location of this villa is stunning with views that are spectacular. It must be said that if you want peace and quiet, look no further.
I will be returning there is no doubt about that.
Alberobello contains some very eyecatching trullos, with quaint cobbled streets, souvenir shops and restaurants which are within easy driving distance to the property.
Villa and Trullo d'Oro
A beautiful setting, with a lovely pool (gated, which gave us peace of mind with four young children in our party), plenty of outdoor space and very well-equipped. The house was spotless and everything had been set up as we had requested for our arrival; we really appreciated Jenny's attention to detail and catering for our many and varied requests. This is a wonderful location, perfect for enjoying the beautiful countryside, visiting charming local towns and close enough to the turquoise water and golden sand of the Adriatic to enjoy the seaside as well. We can't wait to return!
Nice stay in Puglia
We rent both villas ( casa + trullo) 2 weeks with friends
We were not disappointed as it was similar to the descriptions and photos . It's a very pleasant character house , beautiful garden and restful swimming pool in a peaceful area. Fresh patio for meals. Fabulous view on the countryside . .We appreciate the booklet provided in each house in which there is a lot of information about the house and tourism ( what to see around )
The property manager team and especially Steve and Jo is very nice and responsive
We recommand this rental property you w'ont be disappointed and you will feel at home !!!
9 frenchies !!!
This property is landscaped and maintained beautifully. The home and pool sit on a rise and the view at night is beautiful. The villa itself is spacious, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Great for a large group who wants some privacy. Nice maps with walks and information on beaches and towns to visit were in villa. The surrounding towns are easy to reach and each one has something of interest. Steve, who manages the property, is just great. I would definately return. Oh, there are cherry trees all around with amazing cherries!
Relaxing Italian style
It’s not often that you get exactly what you want but this was the holiday we had hoped for – I did not want to feel like a British holidaymaker in a holiday home using shops which were stocked just for visitors and this area is not typical Brit territory - the shops were for the locals but we were made very welcome and found plenty to please.
The property was better than the description because it is hard to describe the character of the house and the atmosphere of the location. I liked the fact that the all the contents are fresh, new and well maintained and exceptionally clean. It is a rustic home but the showers were modern and powerful and the kitchen well appointed including a dishwasher and freezer and there is tv, video and cd player so all the family were happy. With children it was very useful having a washer provided as well. The furnishings are good quality so the simple farmhouse feels like a luxury holiday home. The location is quiet and peaceful but not isolated. All around the property the views are wide open and beautiful especially at night when the distant lights sparkle. We dined outside at night, it was really quite magical. The landscape is rocky and sunbleached with vines and olives and it felt very foreign after England which was a welcome contrast - the Trulli which are evident all around lend an exotic feel. The local shops had fantastic fresh food and we dined very well with little effort on the local produce. Restaurants were not expensive and we tried quite a number from the suggested list in the details provided – the children were made welcome. Walking in Alberobello at night was a pleasure - many families out promenading with young and old alike eating ice cream - it felt very safe and very sociable. We did not go to any bars but joined the locals drinking coffee and beer outside in the market square.
Local markets had great bargains, clothes, shoes, antiques and food. We spent a lot of time by the pool (again really nice and clean) and on bikes and reading in the shade. There were lots of books on offer in the house which was a thoughtful touch and typical of a holiday home where no corners appear to have cut.
The local roads around the area are easy to navigate and the aurostrada was almost deserted – quite a shock after the M1 and M25.
After this holiday we were sad to leave, it had been a real change of pace with a simple lifestyle and one I would happily recommend
The property is situated within 3 acres of olive and almond grove in a hill top position in rural countryside but within 5 minutes of Alberobello. The approach to the property is down very pretty, quiet stone walled lanes, ideal for walking and cycling. It's position offers some of the most fantastic views across the Val D'Itria and being in this position the property benefits from a cooling breeze during the hot summer months. The nearest town Alberobello is a UNESCO heritage site and a unique and fascinating place to explore with its' thousands of trulli. Restaurants and coffee bars are plentiful, good quality and very friendly, being full of character, many being trulli buildings. There are many small shops to explore - ranging from good quality clothes shops through to traditional bakers, butchers not to mention the vast array of quality restaurants, café bars, ice cream parlours etc There are large and well stocked supermarkets on the outskirts of the main historic centre and about 5 minutes from the property. These stock branded goods as well as having excellent delicatessen counters for wonderfully fresh Parma ham, olives, sun dried. Tomatoes, cheeses etc etc The Thursday market in Alberobello is a must, the array of fresh fruit and vegetables is fantastic and the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of how the locals live is a real cultural experience. We also can help advise and organise some local experiences - including a pasta making evening with a very skilled local lady who will teach you how to make Orrichette (the local pasta in the shape of little ears) and include this in a wonderful local meal all prepared and dished up for you. We also can arrange for a local Puglian chef to come to the villa and cook for you. We have bikes at the villa for your use, but should you need more bikes or local car hire again we can help. (We do have 2 adult bikes and 2 teen bikes available for guest use) (Google Earth Grid Ref. Latitude: 40°45'9.50'N Longitude: 17°14'12.49'E)
We can accept UK£ transfers via my UK bank account. We are happy to be flexible on changeover days. All heating is metered and therefore any usage will be charged for and taken from the security deposit. Heating used in the mid and high season due to inclement periods when the weather is bad, will be charged for based upon usage. A security deposit is taken to cover unforeseen additional costs or damage costs. Unforeseen costs could be a surcharge for cleaning or laundry. Applicable where guests do not leave the villa in the condition that they took it over in or where towels/linen are exceptionally dirty incurring additional laundry costs. In both cases we will look to recover funds through the security deposit. The pool being heated is usually open from mid May until end October although this is subject to change depending upon weather conditions.
