Just south of Salzburg, our house is set in the mountains overlooking the small town of Altenmarkt. We offer both Apartment and Bed and Breakfast accommodation.Winter offers a ski and snowboarding paradise, we are situated only 500m from the nearest lift, toboggan run, ski school, ski bus, right in the heart of the Ski Amade area, Austria's largest ski area. For cross-country ski fans we are just 300m from the nearest trail. Summer time offers a totally different perspective, with 5 great golf courses in easy reach. Walking, Biking, adventure sports, lakes, mountain peaks and valley trails and Salzburg City to name a few, are all set amongst Alpine meadows, with friendly Austrian hospitality.
Winter season:: Ski Amade is our ski area, the largest ski area in Austria. We have easy access to the Altenmarkt ski school and slopes, just 500m from the house.
Altenmarkt also has one of the best Apres ski huts in the area, as well as a 4 km long night time toboggan run, through the forest down between 2 ski huts.
Cross country skiing and horse drawn sleigh rides are also popular, as well as other winter events such as the Historic Ice trophy rally, and the world cup ski event at Zauchensee and Schladming in January. The Salzburg Christmas market is spectacular and has mulled wine to die for, and from March onwards warmer weather approaches, what better way to relax, than getting a snow tan whilst drinking a hot chocolate on the mountain.
Summer season:: Summer has so much to offer, from mountain sports activities, and leisurely golf, to thermal spas and swimming in the lakes. Mozart's home town of Salzburg is close by, or you can just relax on our balcony and enjoy the views and mountain air.
Walking is very popular with well marked trails and routes, and a few ski lifts operate in summer as well to effortlessly glide you up the mountain.
It's a mountain biking paradise, with cross country and single track routes, bike parks and downhill.
We are also surrounded by fresh water lakes, lovely for swimming in clear fresh water and for topping up suntans and relaxing
Young Families:: We have 2 young children of our own, so are well supplied with toys and 'younger things to do'. Please contact us if you need any more information. We now have a large trampoline as well as our sand pit and climbing frame/swing/slide.In winter we have several sledges, which children (and adults!) love to use on the hill behind our house as well as making snow men
Bouncy like tigger in the mornings. Love being in the mountains at any time of year. Usually in bed by 10pm though, as there is so much fun stuff to do during the day.
James Hinsby purchased this chalet in 2006
We have an amazing view of the Dachstein mountains from your house. It is like watching a camp fire, never gets boring.
We are in the centre of Ski Amade, with 100's of km of interconnecting ski resorts less than 15 minutes from the house.
A stunning location, quiet, safe, no passing traffic, BUT only 5 minutes from Altenmarkt village, and 2 minutes from amazing skiing at Altenmarkt and Zauchensee. We have lived here from 10 years, so can offer you some great options on things to see and do. We pride our number one spot on Trip advisor.
I would like to thank the owner of the place James and his family for a great week we had in Altenmarkt. The house situated in a great location , close to many different attractions. We had plenty of space for our family with barbecue in the garden and peaceful atmosphere. You can't ask for more if you look for a quiet and relaxing vacation.
We spent the week of Christmas with James and Tracey Hinsby in Altenmarkt. We are a family of 6 and traveled with another family of 4. The accommodation was very comfortable with beautiful views of the mountains from the back of the house. Had there been snow, we would have enjoyed sledding down the hill behind and in front. The nearest ski lift is a short walk down the hill, but there are many other lifts closeby and a free shuttle to get you where you want to go. The best part of this property is the wonderful service that James provides. He is a wealth of information about the local area, made many dinner reservations for us, and even picked our friends up from the train station. I would highly recommend this property to those wanting a comfortable ski vacation inAustria. We hope to visit again!
Over the past 7 years we have visited James and Tracey at their wonderfully situated Haus Kienreich on a hillside with a great view across to Dachstein. . We have been in the Autumn and early spring, as a couple and accompanied by our children and grandchildren and have always had a fantastic time. The property is great and clean and comfortable we are always made to feel very welcome.
James and Tracey are most helpful about where to visit and there are plenty of wonderful places to go.
There is lots to do and see within a few miles of Altenmark and were lucky this time so catch plenty of snow our four year old Grandson loved the sledging at Radstadt also his 78 year old Granddad. It is well worth going in the summer as there are plenty of lovely walks, take the cable car up and walk down option.
Our family can't wait to go back again
I had an amazing week staying at Haus Kienreich with friends and skiing. This is my 2nd visit, having previously gone in the summer so a very different but equally wonderful experience this time in the snow!
Once again, the Hinsbys were incredible hosts. They looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble for them. The guesthouse is very clean, well looked after, very comfortable (especially the beds!) & had everything we needed. In addition, the Hinsbys were very knowledgeable about the local area and what was on to keep us occupied.
Haus Kienreich is situated in a beautiful location, up a hill overlooking Altenmarkt, the slopes & a glacier. The views from my bedroom window were just stunning. One afternoon we went for a walk up the hill behind the house, incredible views - and a lot of fun coming back down "off piste" in knee deep snow!
Of the 8 of us, 4 skied & 4 didn't. We tended to ski in the mornings while the non-skiers watched from one of the huts then all do something together in the afternoons, like take a walk round a nearby lake at Jagersee or visit the local swimming baths - highly recommend the outdoor pool with its jacuzzis and whirlpool!
We were so lucky with the weather, the sun shone every day bar one I think - and the skiing was amazing - being late in the season the slopes were much quieter than usual so we got some great skiing in. There is a ski lift right at the bottom of the hill from Haus Kienreich, so convenient!!
Breakfast was always fresh and plentiful - including cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, fresh breads, cheeses & meats & a big pot of fresh coffee (if you're not a coffee lover like me, plenty of different teas to choose from too!)
The local food is delicious, lots of choice. The salads are particularly good, Wiener schnitzel is always a winner and you definitely can't leave without trying the apfel strudel! We tried a few local restaurants in the evenings - Romerkeller and Pinochios were my favourites for the choice & quality of food.
Nightlife was great too. One evening we took a taxi up the hill, had dinner at the top then tobogganed back down in the dark - terrifying but awesome fun. Another night we went to a bar with a brilliant live band & stayed dancing until 2am - the Austrians definitely know how to party!!
I would wholeheartedly & highly recommend Haus Kienreich. I'm already looking to book my next stay!
This was probably our 4th or 5th stay with James and Tracey. We keep coming back because it's effectively a home away from home (we live in Vienna). It's got a great location for Skiing, with several great resorts dotted nearby. I've also come up for learning off piste when the snow really starts falling!
The house is great, relaxed and comfortable. The self catered apartments are perfect for families but this time we stayed in a double room. It's perfect for a couple although the spare bed also means you could fit a child in comfortably.
James and Tracey are awesome. If you need any advice on what to do or where to go, he's never short of ideas. Overall a great base to explore from!
A fantastic position close to the ski lifts, with a beautiful view over Altenmarkt was a great first impression. But it only got better: met with an incredibly warm welcome, the Hinsby family were wonderful hosts, going above and beyond expectations. Why can't others do it this well?
I can't wait to return!
Our house is only 500m from the Altenmarkt ski area in Ski Amade with ski school, and trails lead from our back door for walkers and bikers. Just to the north of us are the Salzburgerland lakes, with the clearest fresh water lakes in Europe to enjoy and explore.
Salzburg is only a 45 minute drive and offers a rich diverse culture to explore. Radstadt Golf course is only a 5 minute drive away.
Other Activities: Ballooning, Trampolining, Toboggoning
Golf: We have 5, 18 hole courses with in 50 minutes of us, Radstadt and Schladming being the closest two, set in the beautiful surrounds of the Dachstein mountains. The different clubs are well organised and offer special discounts and deals using the Golf Alpine card. Mature, developed, interesting courses in stunning locations make for a quite unique experience. Courses are open from May - October
Available are individual or group lessons, club and buggy hire, driving range, guest tournaments and a golf pro shop.
Ski: We are situated in the heart of the Ski Amade system, which offers over 860km of skiing and boarding on just one ski pass and is a real ski paradise. We have easy access to the Altenmarkt ski school and slopes, just 500m from the house.
Altenmarkt also has one of the best Apres ski huts in the area, as well as a 4 km long night time tabboggan run, through the forest down to the ski hut. 10 minutes up the road from us it the world cup ski resort of Zauchensee, and only 20 minutes away is the high altitudes ski resort of Obertaurn, making us a very snow sure location and giving us a long season to the end of April. For the more adventurous, Zauchensee is a very popular resort to visit, with buses every 10 minutes dropping you off at the lift centre. The resort itself is in a huge bowl with skiing for all abiities and some great off piste over the back, but it also interlinks on to Flachauwinkl and over to Klienarl.
