About Simon McLoughlin
I am a New Zealander who has been living in the Goldstream Valley, on the outskirts of the city of Fairbanks, for 18 years. Before arriving in Alaska, I was a keen kayaker, skier, mountaineer, and hiker..I came to Alaska in 1990 lured by wilderness, big mountains and sparsely populated areas. In 1992 my friend and business partner Chris and Ispent 3 exciting weeks climbing Denali. We added more adventure to the experience by walking out instead of flying out. I am still adventuring 25 years on but now mostly with my 15 rambunctious sled dogs.
Simon McLoughlin purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Simon McLoughlin chose Fairbanks
My business partner Chris and I built this log cabin, as we wanted to offer our friends and guests the opportunity to experience a real Alaskan lifestyle.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have deliberately kept the cabins simple but yet comfortable and cozy. There is no television in the cabins. We wanted to create an environment that brought you back to nature. All our cabins have a low impact on the environment. It is place to come and recharge the batteries and replenish the soul. We are also able to offer you dog sledding and snow mobile trips. You can cross country ski from outside your doorstep onto the many miles of ski tracks. There is also a ski field 10 minutes drive from your cabin.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Cabin in the Woods
Loved our experience staying in the cabin near Fairbanks for a couple of days. Definitely what we were looking for and it gave us a real taste living in that area. We hope to return in winter for a dog sled ride, snowshoeing and viewing the northern lights. This is the place to do it!
Perfect Alaskan retreat
Beautiful, quiet, clean. Feels farther from the city than it is. Loved hearing the sled dogs.
Thanks for review Nicole.I am glad you enjoyed this secluded nature retreat. Thanks for looking after the cabin
Stunning views with cozy charm
Simon was helpful and knowledgeable. Wish we could have got to chat with him more. (Our fault not his). Cabin was equipped with just about everything you could need on a trip. You can tell that a lot of thought and effort goes into making sure the stay is enjoyable. I also now know why people come up here for a visit and stay.

Hi Marta was nice to meet you both.I am glad you enjoyed this quiet, secluded natural location. Please come visit again! I,d love to have you both back
One of the best vacation venues I've ever been to.
This cabin is the perfect Alaskan getaway, it really gives you the feel of how traditional Alaskans live in dry cabins. The owner is a very generous host and really cares about the experience you have. Highly recommend!
A true Alaskan cabin in the woods!
We stayed 5 nights in the Pond Cabin and really enjoyed our time there. The cabin is spacious and warm, being well-sealed and having good heating with either the automatic heater or the wood-burner. The outhouse and shower/sauna were clean and functional and cooking facilities good, although all would have been a little easier with larger supplies of water. We saw the aurora borealis from the cabin on our last night which was a Very special end to our trip. Thanks Simon for use of the cabin, great to meet you and your dogs.
We are able to offer dog sledding and snow mobile rides for a 6 mile loop per person, as part of the adventure tourism business we run between Mid October to end of April (provided there is snow on the ground).
There is a local laundromat, shower, general store, bar and restauraunt 1 mile down the road.
