Unbelievable Views and an Architectual Marvel

  • 5 of 5

Our stay consisted of 8 adults ranging in age from 21 to 59 and because of the unique design of this home everyone was able to play cards, build puzzles and gather for meals yet find plenty of "private" space in the rooms, on the decks and in the garage area while using the BBQ.

Gloria was extremely helpful and responsive to anything we needed, the rental process was simple and smooth and Heidi from the management company was easily accessible.

The location is remote but we found two great coffee shops within an 8 minute drive and the beach at the bottom of the hill is very private with lots of creatures such as crabs and eels. The drive to and from the airport was easy, the Manta Ray snorkeling was about 30 minutes by car and the Volcano National Park is about 1 1/2 hours. We found great snorkeling at 2 Step which was a short drive from the house and well worth the $5 parking fee if you arrived after 10am but there is also free parking spaces for the early birds.

There were boogie boards, snorkels, fins, a cooler and chairs available along with umbrellas and towels. This home is not used heavily for rentals which you can tell by the quality of the flatware, dishes and linens and all the furniture and electronics are very nice without heavy wear and tear.

We will definitely stay here again when visiting the Big Island in the future.

Clean, up to date, spacious, great for families.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time. We were in town for our friends wedding and 8 adults stayed here. There were plenty of bathrooms and the kitchen was perfect size for cooking for 8.

The open center design of the house was just what we needed. The covered lanai was where we spent most of our time, overlooking the water. The only downside is the driveway. It is very steep and if the house that shares the driveway was occupied, it could be difficult to get in to this driveway. I know it can't be changed and it is what it is. You can park at the bottom and walk uphill a ways to the side entry into the house if needed. I would recommend staying here and will stay there again if I go with a big group. We loved the house and the location--perfect for exploring the southern end of the Kona coast, with stunning views down the coast. If you want ready access to Kailua town, this isn't your place. If you are looking to get away, this is it. Lots of beautiful places to explore, all within easy driving distance. The house is very comfortable, with well-appointed kitchen and great decks on on all three levels. If allowed, we would have rated 4.5 stars--a few minor issues detracted from what otherwise would have been perfection.

Delightful views

  • 4 of 5

One thing about this house is that it is large and has great views of the ocean - especially on the very top level. The house is 3 stories with 2 bedrooms located on the very top floor where the best views of the ocean can be had. You walk out of the bedroom onto a spacious deck and the view is truly amazing. The main level is where the kitchen and living room is located - it too has a great view and a nice circular deck. Both the kitchen and living room area is nicely designed for comfort.

The only downside to the house is that the very bottom level of the house is built directly into the exposed foundation. This is pretty cool to have but, unfortunately, it lets a lot of the insects from the ground into the bottom unit of the house and this is where the 3rd bedroom is located. There are a lot of millipedes that crawls around the floor and bed so I would not recommend using the lower level of this house. The driveway is also extremely steep but this is common for houses in the area. This house being built on the hillside is what gives it such amazing views but also challenges. If it wasn't for the millipedes and insects on the lowest level I would have given the house a 5 star.

Still, my wife and I really enjoyed this house. It has great views and the owners left a few snorkel and swimming toys in the garage that you can use. Very thoughtful. I recommend the house if you are looking for amazing views.

Absolute Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Hawaii, and my husband and I agreed that this house was the perfect setting for it. The views are indescribable, the house is beautiful, clean, and well-equipped all around. It may have been a bit of a drive from the airport, volcano, etc. (not terrible however), but considering we are generally not "big city" fans, and this location kept us out of the heavy traffic areas (unless we decided to drive through it intentionally), it was perfect for us. If we are blessed enough to ever return, we would definitely stay here again. Mahalo!

Slept with one eye open.

  • 3 of 5

The house is exactly as pictured, very beautiful. Location is pretty remote. Nothing within walking distance so depends on your goals for your vacation. We traveled a lot everyday. But was a great way to see the island. We stayed for 9 days. The house was overrun with millipeds, a few centipeds. Truly had to kill over a dozen each day in our lower bedroom alone. Each evening on our return my husband would try to kill any he saw before I went to the lower level. The house manger responded to our concerns but the exterminator said that the process he used to kill them would not take effect for 2 weeks. We pulled the bed into the middle of the room thinking the worms would not get in the bed, still happened. One might one landed on my eye brow, and one was on the pillow. Truly slept with one eye open the entire stay. I had to keep my sandels on the night stand so I could put them on before my feet touched the floor. When we left there we checked into the Hilton on Oahu and slept for 3 days. If it were not for the other couples we traveled with, we would have left. The rock walls in the lower level moved with so many millipeds. I give it 3 stars as it was Hawaii, the view outside was great.
