About the property

4 Bdrm 3 Bth Lake House with view of Appalachian Trail and Schaghticoke Mountain

Welcome to this gorgeous lakeside estate nestled in the town of Dover, NY in the foothills of the Berkshires, 15 minutes from Kent, CT. This exceptional rental includes exclusive use of the estate's private 35 acre lake.

Perched on a peninsula along the shores of Lake Weil, this stunning 4-bedroom contemporary home offers spectacular lake views from nearly every window.

Pack a lunch and paddle to White Rock, located across the lake (canoes and kayaks provided). Hike along wooded nature trails and look for wildlife. Fish for bass, perch, and sunfish (White Rock Preserve at Lake Weil is a licensed NYS fishing preserve). Challenge friends and family to a game of ping pong or pool in the barn's game room. Further afield, browse through unique shops in one of the nearby towns, or sample wines at one of the region's award-winning wineries. Or, just lounge in the sun and enjoy the serenity of this secluded paradise.

Prepare breakfast in the Spanish style galley kitchen and savor your morning coffee in the adjacent sun room. Relax with a soothing glass of wine on the second story balcony off the master bedroom suite. Enjoy self-prepared meals in the open dining room (table opens to seat 10). Kick back and watch TV (46 inch flat screen) in the spacious, sun-filled living room. Play a rousing game of chess or cards in the cozy den overlooking the lake. Wind down at the end of the day in the 2-person jacuzzi tub. Sleep soundly in one of the 4 tastefully furnished bedrooms (sleeps 11). In the morning, watch the swirling mist roll along the surface of the water.

Spring highlights include bald eagles, osprey, kingfisher, nesting red shouldered hawks, and a wide variety of migrating ducks. In the summer, look for fox, raccoon, and deer. Fall offers breathtaking views of Schaghticoke Mountain, part of the 2,180 mile long Appalachian trail. Winter provides opportunities to snuggle up near the wood stove, snowshoe along trails, or try your hand at winter track identification.

Ideal for family vacations, a group of friends looking for an escape from urban living, or special events.

About John Fila

This is part of a family compound that dates back to the early 1900s. At that time, Joseph Weil, a teacher from New York City, began bringing students to camp in the area. This led to the development of a childrens' camp, Weil's Whispering Pines, and the creation of Lake Weil.

John Fila purchased this estate in 1910

Why John Fila chose New York

Ideally situated 1.5 hours north of NYC, The Lake House offers a luxurious retreat in a pristine natural setting. The Hudson River Valley and Housatonic River Valley attractions are an easy, scenic drive away. You have easy access to adventurous antiquing (think Litchfield, CT), top-notch restaurants, unique shopping, rich historic sites, award-winning wineries, and much more. And after a day of exploring, wander back and relax at your own, private 65-acre estate.

What makes this estate unique

Without question this is a unique rental. Lake Weil is part of The Lake House property. You are not simply renting a beautiful home, but also reserving full and exclusive use of this spectacularly scenic lake.

Notes:
A truly unique experience. This one of a kind property includes our lake, lake Weil. You can find other places on a lake to be sure but no where, no where, can you find a lake to rent. At least not a real lake. This is a vacation paradise. Its close to NYC yet completely isolated in a country setting. So go ahead, search. See if you can find anything like this. But hurry, reservations are coming in quickly for this newly listed vacation property.

Very peaceful and private lake house

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely and fully equipped. There are plants and flowers throughout the house and lots of games and things to do. A private lake, and rooms that are filled with windows that look out onto the lake on all sides, as well as comfortable rooms. It was raining during our stay but we loved it anyway. The owners are very accommodating and helpful.

Look forward to returning.

Beautiful private lake stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I do an annual vacation. There is usually 10-15 of us that go. We had a place booked and something came up at the last minute with the property we had reserved and we had to scramble to find a new place. It was probably the best thing that could've happened to us because we found this place at the last minute. It is the best place that we have booked so far. John was very accommodating for our last minute needs. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the owners have thought of every little detail. They had everything we might need already available to us including kayaks, canoes, fishing gear, lawn games, and much more. The house was beautiful. The lake was beautiful. Everything about this property was perfect. Our family had an absolutely wonderful week. We fished and swam in the lake. We explored and hiked the areas around the lake. We played lawn games. We used the pool table and ping pong table every day. Our dogs had the time of their lives, too. Swimming and running free on the large property. I can't say enough good things about this place. Absolutely perfect for a family retreat. John even left us a bottle of wine. So glad we stayed here!

Great Weekend at Lake Weil

  • 5 of 5

This property is really one of a kind, with plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. The privacy of having the entire lake to ourselves was very nice. We had such a great time on the beach and out on the water in the boats that we didn't even get around to all the lawn games that were provided. Inside, the house was clean and had wonderful lake views from almost every room. The owner was very responsive and easy to deal with. It was the perfect place for our family to get away for the weekend and hopefully we will be back to stay at Lake Weil again.

Lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

The house is as described on a nice piece of property. We had 8 adults and 1 toddler, & 3 dogs! Plenty of living space and things to do right on the property. You won't be disappointed! The owners were great, too.

Great vacation at the Lake House!

  • 5 of 5

The house right on the lake was wonderful...no roads to cross for the little kids, shallow water for us to play in, chat and cool off while there was a real heatwave going on. Air conditioning in the house really helped! John was close by and let us know we could call if needed. Good swimming off the dock for the swimmers too! Great fun in the kayak, canoe and row boat. The beach is good too. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen was very well supplied with pots, pans, blenders, knives, dishes...dishwasher. We ate inside at a big dining room table, outside at the picnic table on the beach, and another outside spot under the trees. My husband had his first smore that the kids made in the evening at the beach. It was a wonderful time...we really didn't want to go anywhere else, but we took little trips to the falls and walked the trails which were lovely, but still we couldn't wait to return to the calm at our House on the Lake! We hope to return again!

Fantastic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Lake House makes for an absolutely wonderful getaway. The house itself is charming and immaculate, and the owners provide many thoughtful extra touches. You walk out the back of the house and you find yourself surrounded by the natural beauty of the lake, and the trees and mountain in the background. The privacy of the lake makes this house unique. If you're looking for someplace to relax and have fun for a long weekend, I cannot recommend this place any more highly.
