New York Estate Rental Photos and Description

4 Bdrm 3 Bth Lake House with view of Appalachian Trail and Schaghticoke Mountain

Welcome to this gorgeous lakeside estate nestled in the town of Dover, NY in the foothills of the Berkshires, 15 minutes from Kent, CT. This exceptional rental includes exclusive use of the estate's private 35 acre lake.

Perched on a peninsula along the shores of Lake Weil, this stunning 4-bedroom contemporary home offers spectacular lake views from nearly every window.

Pack a lunch and paddle to White Rock, located across the lake (canoes and kayaks provided). Hike along wooded nature trails and look for wildlife. Fish for bass, perch, and sunfish (White Rock Preserve at Lake Weil is a licensed NYS fishing preserve). Challenge friends and family to a game of ping pong or pool in the barn's game room. Further afield, browse through unique shops in one of the nearby towns, or sample wines at one of the region's award-winning wineries. Or, just lounge in the sun and enjoy the serenity of this secluded paradise.

Prepare breakfast in the Spanish style galley kitchen and savor your morning coffee in the adjacent sun room. Relax with a soothing glass of wine on the second story balcony off the master bedroom suite. Enjoy self-prepared meals in the open dining room (table opens to seat 10). Kick back and watch TV (46 inch flat screen) in the spacious, sun-filled living room. Play a rousing game of chess or cards in the cozy den overlooking the lake. Wind down at the end of the day in the 2-person jacuzzi tub. Sleep soundly in one of the 4 tastefully furnished bedrooms (sleeps 11). In the morning, watch the swirling mist roll along the surface of the water.

Spring highlights include bald eagles, osprey, kingfisher, nesting red shouldered hawks, and a wide variety of migrating ducks. In the summer, look for fox, raccoon, and deer. Fall offers breathtaking views of Schaghticoke Mountain, part of the 2,180 mile long Appalachian trail. Winter provides opportunities to snuggle up near the wood stove, snowshoe along trails, or try your hand at winter track identification.

Ideal for family vacations, a group of friends looking for an escape from urban living, or special events.

About John Fila

This is part of a family compound that dates back to the early 1900s. At that time, Joseph Weil, a teacher from New York City, began bringing students to camp in the area. This led to the development of a childrens' camp, Weil's Whispering Pines, and the creation of Lake Weil.

John Fila purchased this estate in 1910

Why John Fila chose New York

Ideally situated 1.5 hours north of NYC, The Lake House offers a luxurious retreat in a pristine natural setting. The Hudson River Valley and Housatonic River Valley attractions are an easy, scenic drive away. You have easy access to adventurous antiquing (think Litchfield, CT), top-notch restaurants, unique shopping, rich historic sites, award-winning wineries, and much more. And after a day of exploring, wander back and relax at your own, private 65-acre estate.

What makes this estate unique

Without question this is a unique rental. Lake Weil is part of The Lake House property. You are not simply renting a beautiful home, but also reserving full and exclusive use of this spectacularly scenic lake.

Georgeous house with plenty to do

  • 5 of 5

This review should have been written much sooner! Our group of family friends had a great time at John's lake house. It was a perfect reprieve from our daily routine.

We especially loved walking out to the lake in the morning with a cup of coffee, using the fire pit on the beach at night, and playing volleyball and badminton during the day. The barn was an excellent place to hang out as well. The property was very much like being on your very own private estate.

The house is very spacious and plenty of room for folks to sit together or to enjoy separately. It is decorated nicely and has a comfortable, rustic feel. In particular I loved the study / office with the overlook onto the lake and grounds.

Best of all, John was available and responsive whenever we needed him. We hope to have the opportunity to stay here again!

A wonderful vacation in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

John and Sandra Fila's waterfront house on Lake Weil is one of the most idyllic vacation places we've ever seen. We spent a month there, swimming, boating and enjoying everything from pool (a table in the barn) to badminton. The house was all that it was billed to be -- huge, spotlessly clean, well-maintained and fully equipped, especially the kitchen. Mr. Fila, who lives nearby, was unobtrusive but responsive to our every need. We asked for blackout curtains in the master bedroom; he provided them. We had a small problem with the dishwasher; he saw to it. He provided tips on farm stands, restaurants, shopping and more in nearby Pawling, N.Y., and New Milford, Conn. The house is centrally air conditioned, wonderful for August. All its rooms overlook the lake, which wraps around two sides of the heavily wooded, estate-like property. Only one house is visible across the lake, and there are no nearby neighbors. The Filas had just installed a new sand beach. There is a lovely dock and swimming platform, a gas grill and brick fire pit for evening bonfires. Wildlife, especially birds like snowy egrets, great egrets and red-shouldered hawks, abound. We heartily recommend this place to anyone who wants a beautiful vacation in wonderful setting with an amazing number of recreational things to do.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We are so glad we selected your home on Lake Weil for our summer vacation. With six children and five adults not to mention our three dogs we had plenty of room for everyone and the private location allowed our dogs to run freely and enjoy the lake with the rest of our family. The game room, basketball hoop, and boats gave the kids plenty to do and area attractions like Kent Falls State Park, area golf courses, and even panning for gold in the Housitonic River gave added fun. The house with its large living area and big screen TV made the little time we spent indoors quite comfortable. Our week at the lake was a vacation our whole family will remember for a very long time.

Dream vacation

  • 5 of 5

The Lake House was a perfect spot for our family get together. Lots of activities available on the property. We had fun looking for turtles on the lake in the rowboat, kayak and sailboat. The dining table was big enough for all nine of us to eat meals together. Lots of games as well as ping pong and pool in the barn. Thanks for the welcome basket! Beautiful house, comfortable beds, wish we could have stayed longer.

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house, lake and property are even nicer than the pictures show. We enjoyed the private beach with kayaks, canoes and row boat at the end of the dock. The kids were in the water every day swimming and catching crayfish and frogs, and we played volleyball and beach bocce. At night we made smores in the fire pit on the beach. The sky was so clear at night that you could see shooting stars and satellites. One of the greatest and most memorable family vacations we've ever had. The home owners really went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed for a great vacation. Thank you!

A truly unique experience. This one of a kind property includes our lake, lake Weil. You can find other places on a lake to be sure but no where, no where, can you find a lake to rent. At least not a real lake. This is a vacation paradise. Its close to NYC yet completely isolated in a country setting. So go ahead, search. See if you can find anything like this. But hurry, reservations are coming in quickly for this newly listed vacation property.
