Keauhou-Kona Surf and Racquet #186 exudes pride of ownership: Balinese and Hawaiian furnishings and art work grace every room, creating a home designed for comfort and relaxation!

In December 2012, the townhouse had a major renovation. The kitchen was remodeled removing walls to make a more open floor plan and installing new cabinets and counters. The laundry facilities were moved upstairs bathroom area, which opened the kitchen considerably. The upstairs bathroom was completely changed, all the plumbing moved and now has a large shower at the end of the room with a large window overlooking the ocean. The living room, kitchen, bathrooms and stairs have been newly tiled with travertine. We repainted the bedrooms in July 2014 and added a 39' TV in the oceanside bedroom. It is really beautiful and a great place is now even better!

Let the soft breeze and ocean waves lull you to sleep in the Makai (toward the ocean) Master Bedroom, furnished with a King bed and cable TV. The tropical Mauka (mountain side) bedroom has two twin beds (easily converted to a King with kit provided), and teak and bamboo furnishings.

Keeping to our motto 'Just Say No to Rugs,' this townhouse sports bamboo hardwood flooring in the bedrooms and tile throughout the ground floor.

From the ground floor Lanai you can watch Spinner Dolphins swim the coastline daily, whales breaching during their migration and incomparable sunsets with the ocean waves literally breaking in front of you. If you were staying anywhere closer you'd be swimming!

Located in the upscale Keauhou area this is a highly desirable, quiet, family-friendly and gated 14 acre garden community featuring 3 lighted tennis courts (tennis pro available), a swimming pool and nicely done community BBQ and picnic areas.

Walk to Kahalu’u Beach Park (ranked among the best snorkeling reefs in the Islands) and to the nearby Keauhou shopping center for shops, dining, cinema, groceries, local Farmer's market and free Hula and local community entertainment weekly. Excellent golfing is available at the adjacent Kona Country Club Ocean Golf Course or take the day off and watch the local surfers “shred” a few waves.

This is an excellent and safe walking area with many sights, open expanses of coastline and minimal automobile traffic. The area is great for strolling and rich in historical landmarks and heiau (temples), one of which is adjacent to the unit. This area was once the home of the Ali'i (Hawaiian chiefs) and the waters were once reserved for use only by royalty!

On our very first visit to the Big Island of Hawaii we absolutely fell in love with this beautiful island. We rented a townhouse in Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club right next to this one and were surprised to see this unit for sale. We had thoroughly enjoy the area as well as the island so much that we could see ourselves coming back again and again to explore Hawaii. We were lucky enough to be able to purchase the townhouse and are pleased to be able to share it with our guests and hope they have as wonderful stay as we did!

What makes this townhome unique

If you want oceanfront, look no further! To get any closer you'll have to be sleeping on the water! The master bedroom, living room and lanai look unobstructed over 2,500 miles of unbroken Pacific Ocean, the waves of which break not even 50 feet from your door. There is no need for air conditioning since there is a nice ocean breeze to keep you comfortable when you're not out exploring all the magic the island has to offer! If you're a light sleeper you may want to bring some ear plugs since the sound of the waves crashing can be loud at times if you sleep with the windows open.

Via Airbnb ( We really enjoyed our week at this beautiful, well located townhouse. When it says oceanfront – it really means oceanfront. The patio door opens directly to the most beautiful view and if you wanted to you could simply spend all day sitting there looking out at the water. The townhouse was spacious, clean and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. It’s within walking distance of the shopping center and a small beach – although we would highly recommend renting a car to explore everything the island has to offer. The host was helpful and available to contact for any questions or suggestions on things to do and see in the area (we saw a lot of turtles – thanks for everything Edgar!) There was also plenty of snorkel and beach gear for us to use which was great. Given the proximity of the ocean and that you will want the windows open for the breeze - I would recommend bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. We had a great vacation and hope to visit again someday.

We loved this place . Our family of 5 stayed a week and found this to be a great location . Half mile from amazing snorkeling and a quick drive into town and many beaches. Grocery is half mile away as well. Will stay again - super

Nice property, great location

We stayed at this condo for a week with our daughter and her family, and were very pleased with the accommodations. Everything was clean and as it was represented. The ocean is just outside the door, which was very relaxing. The complex has a pool, and we used it several times with our little granddaughter. The owner provided clear instructions on how to find the property and gain access, and everything worked as it should. There is a crib available, not listed in the amenities, which was great for the baby. The location is south of Kailua-Kona, within walking distance of a great snorkeling beach and in easy driving distance of the town for dinner.

My only reasons for not rating this property a 5 is that the bedrooms upstairs were quite hot, especially in the evening when we were trying to sleep. There are fans, but it was still hot. Also, there were no toiletries other than hand soap and salt/pepper/sugar in the kitchen. We've stayed at other VRBO properties, and usually there is a small supply of shampoo, etc, and a few items in the kitchen like oil and mayo to get you started. We had to run out to the store after arriving to stock up. It would have been nice to know this in advance so we could have planned.

Awesome View, Nice Location, Helpful owner

We had a group of six adults and a toddler in this townhouse of a period of 5 nights. Everyone just loved the view.

The location was convenient for getting groceries and access to Ali'i drive for going into Kona town. The nearby beach park was excellent too. The owner was very prompt to respond to any queries and very helpful.

I don't think there is a latch on the bathroom upstairs so we had to be careful so as not to barge in on someone. It was a minor inconvenience but is something that should be easy to fix.

We also had a problem with the ocean getting rough for two nights and a day. The waves were crashing against the rocks and the water splashed all the way up to the patio furniture at times. The property manager boarded up the deck and kitchen window to avoid water damage to the property(He did this for all the townhouses in that row). During this period we didn't have a view of the ocean and it felt quite cramped and dark inside as there was little natural light coming in. I find it hard to blame the owner for this because it was an act of nature but it did dull our spirits for a day. On the other hand it was fascinating watching the waves come crashing in before the area was cordoned off. Hope you have better luck and don't lose the view and access due to such events.

Excellent oceanfront townhouse

Overall we had a very good experience staying at this oceanfront townhouse for a week. Highly recommended.


1. Great location - 30 feet from the ocean!

2. Awesome views, especially sunset.

3. Very clean townhouse, spacious for 3 people (we were 2 adults and 1 kid)

4. Fully stocked kitchen.

5. Excellent complex - has tennis, pool and other amenities.

5. Close to shopping and Kailua-Kona town.


1. None of the beds are king size even though the property description says one bed is. Also, mattresses could use an upgrade.

Lovely location

A few things were really great... the communication with the owner, the ocean view, the grounds and the proximity to the pool - especially for our kiddos. Having the boogie boards and beach chairs was a nice feature and we used those a ton!. The place could use a little bit of TLC... the toilet downstairs needs to be replaced, the knives were dull, and several doorknobs didn't seem to turn. Minor things but it would make it a more enjoyable experience. Thank you for sharing your place.

Great Location!

Our immediate response in writing a review of this property is great location. Near great beaches and very convenient shopping. We loved the location being so very very close to the ocean, but if you are light sleeper you might want to consider this as the surf can be rather loud. The home had everything we needed, but the one thing we did not need was ants. We were aware of the ant issue and were very very diligent, but when they filled up the iron and converged on our stored suitcases, it was disconcerting. We went through two bottles of ant spray. The only place we never got ants was in the kitchen. We had extremely high surf our last two days and they closed up the back of the house and it was quite claustrophobic, but it was amazing watching the waves. We played a lot of tennis and the courts and pool are so convenient to this property. We enjoyed our visit. Thank you.
