This spectacular Federal style home combines all the features of a 21st century vacation retreat with the charm and character of a 19th century residence. It has been completely updated, including the removal of lead paint, and features central air conditioning, a granite and stainless steel kitchen, and 5 bedrooms (3 en suite) and 4 1/2 baths in the main house... plus a 1-bedroom (queen bed) studio apartment with full bath (shower) in the pool house. Furnishings throughout the home are an eclectic combination of antique and traditional, complimented by an assortment of fine art and accessories… much like you might find in your own home.
The main floor includes a formal dining room which comfortably seats 10 and connects to the sitting room off the kitchen, which has a sleep sofa, gas fireplace and TV. The recently renovated kitchen includes a Sub Zero refrigerator with ice-maker and stainless appliances plus a warming oven and 36 bottle wine refrigerator, all surrounded by granite counters and cherry cabinets. A large pass-through connects the kitchen to the very special family/sunroom which serves as the center of activity. The room features a built-in TV with DVD player and surround sound, a gas fireplace and a large 10-person table for most meals. And last but certainly not least is the oversized master bedroom with king bed and built-in chest in the walk-in closet. The master bath has a double sink, 2-person jacuzzi tub, large glass-enclosed walk-in shower and bidet.
The second floor offers 4 bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and private baths, one of which includes a second jacuzzi, steam shower and bidet. The other two bedrooms each have twin beds and share a full bath off the hallway. A lower basement level has a large table for games, color tv, and seating. It serves as an excellent place for children to hang out, especially in the unlikely event that it might rain.
Exit the glass sliders or french doors leading to the wrap-around deck with barbeque grill fueled by natural gas (no tanks needed) and sunken hot tub for five. The oversized salt water pool with lap lane offers the perfect setting for swimming and sunbathing with plenty of seating (chairs, tables & lounges) when not in the pool. There are also pool floats, an outdoor shower, and hammock for two for your enjoyment. The little pool house has a screened porch with bistro table for two for those wishing to escape the sun. Steps to the second floor lead to a studio apartment, with queen bed, tv, extra seating, and kitchenette with coffee maker and microwave. Individuals wishing to leave the property, even if only for a little while, will discover shopping, golf, beaches, restaurants, boats to the Islands, and other activities just a short drive from your front door.
I grew up in Brookline, MA and lived in the Greater Boston area for more than 50 years before moving to Cape Cod in 1999. However, my connection to the Cape goes back to the 1940's when my parents bought their first home in Yarmouth. My wife and I moved to the Cape to be close to my mother after my father died in 1997. It was also the perfect opportunity to 'slow down' and enjoy the history, charm and beauty of living on Cape Cod. I presently own and operate a small advertising agency/publishing company and work out of my home. In recent years, a significant portion of the business has involved publishing tourism-related guidebooks for several of the local/regional chambers of commerce, so if you're looking for specific information about almost anything on Cape Cod, I most likely can provide the specifics, and if not, I can point you in the right direction, especially if it pertains to restaurants. (We publish a dining guide to Cape Cod restaurants.)
Martin (Marty) Summerfield purchased this house in 2002
It's a special opportunity to enjoy your own mini resort located within the largest historic district in the United States, while also experiencing the unique charm, beauty and culture of Cape Cod at your leisure. It is the perfect venue for larger or extended families, families traveling together, family reunions, pre or post wedding parties, or small groups of friends
The home is located geographically in the mid-Cape, close to all activities, sports, beaches, shopping, restaurants, and island ferries. The backyard is very private, surrounded by plantings and trees, thereby providing the vacationers an intimate setting in which to relax and play; yet it's just a short drive to explore other areas on beautiful Cape Cod.
This is a large house that easily accommodated our family of 4 adult couples, one toddler and one baby. There were plenty of paper towels and aluminum foil and plastic wrap in the kitchen as well as coffee and condiments of all kinds. The location is good and there is a convenience store in walking distance of the property. The couple who stayed in one of the bedrooms on the street side of the house were disturbed by the street noise (the house is located on a major thoroughfare). It was much too cool to even think about using the pool but we enjoyed the hot tub! The owner is very attentive and considerate.
This was the perfect home for a large family with kids. The house was beautiful, very well kept and updated. The kitchen area was fully stocked and large enough for everyone to come in and out. For the kids the main attractions were the heated pool and the Jacuzzi. We stayed here for 3 nights and didn't want to leave. Fully recommend it for families that want a weekend or week getaway from the city.
This home was fantastic! It has everything we could ask for and more for our family vacation. We highly recommend this home to future travelers with large families or for those looking for a bigger home for vacationing!
Just got back home from the Mini Family Resort in Yarmouth Port. My wife and I spent the last week with our two daughters, son-in-law, significant other, and two grand daughters. There was lots of room to spread out and enjoy the accommodations. The oversized pool and hot tubs were really big hits. The house was in a great location to access the beaches and other activities. Since our relatives are in the Boston area we were able to host a cookout with my wife's family to celebrate her birthday. The total headcount for the day was 24. One of the youngsters had such a great time he hid in a closest to try and stay with us for the rest of the week. We were also able to host a smaller cookout for my family. If someone is looking for a nice restaurant we would recommend the Captain Linnell House in Orleans which my wife and I spent a quiet evening out by ourselves.
We stayed here with three other families including 3 2-year olds and 2 infants. The house is beautiful and comfortable! There are plenty of rooms, comfortable beds, and spaces for everyone to spread out. The kids loved the heated pool and side yard. I called several property owners before booking and Mr. Summerfield was by far the friendliest! He even brought us fresh cookies from the Chatham Cookie Company. The location of the home is great for exploring the Cape and Boston and is walking distance to Grey's Beach! This was our first time renting a home for vacation, it's definitely the way to go!
