Gorgeous Location and Comfortable House
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day weekend at this super comfortable house. The beds were great and it was perfect for 6 of us. The dining table easily seats 10-12 people. We loved the outdoor fire pit and there was plenty of wood for evening fires. We loved watching birds from all the large windows in the house. Even though it was hot (in the 90s) the large window a/c cooled off the whole house nicely if you left the bedroom doors open. Check in and check out was smooth with no problems. I just wish I had brought kayaks or they had them at the property as the river looked inviting.
Everything about this place was Paradise. OK, the rain wasn't awesome but the house and grounds were. Huge kitchen and dining area took care of all guests. The river view was terrific. Plenty of sleeping room, modern appliances and deck space. Ken has a real jewel here.
My 3rd time staying here and its a great place
Took a group of 5 friends up here and had a great time even in the cooler weather.
Relaxing time on the river
Loved it! Great place to stay, very relaxing.
Overall a great place to stay
PROS: Large living area / Large outdoor area / Clean & comfortable / Living area well air-conditioned / Owners very nice and helpful / Master bed KING and very comfortable. / The DOUBLE bed in one upstairs room was comfortable. / The futon in the living area was comfortable. / Outdoor area very pretty.
CONS: The AC is a window unit in the large living area. If you leave the door open to the master it cools down nicely also. However the upstairs rooms were a bit warm. NOTE: we were there during a heat spell with temps in the 90's. / Water is well water and there was a sulfur smell which there is really nothing that can be done. / Although clean, there are stained areas in the bathrooms / Do not wash any white clothes that may have sunscreen on them - well water can cause orange / brown streaks. It's not just this house, but any well water can do this - you can google for more info.
OVERALL: We really enjoyed this property - it was great for a large family gathering. We grilled burgers and brauts and had about 20 people over for the day. We would stay here again. Just be aware of the well water if that kind of thing bothers you.
Great Time on your own private island
A group of buddies, a grill, a firepit and endless stories for a weekend. It's perfect.
There are 5 beautiful state parks in the area within a 15 minute ride. You can hike and picnic at all of them. They offer beautiful prairie, forest and river vistas with plenty of hiking trails and picnic areas. Wild life is plentiful. Deer and wild turkeys are seen frequently. The tree canopies offer fabulous birding opportunities.
John Deere Historic Site is less than a mile away. You can explore his original workshop/forge and his home and grounds. This site offers an amazing view of life in the1860's and a wealth of knowledge about how the original self cleaning plow was invented and how it changed agriculture forever.
The town of Dixon is conveniently located just 5 miles away. As the childhood home of former United States President Ronald Reagan, there are several historic places to visit and learn, including his boyhood home and The Northwest Territory Historical museum. The downtown area offers some exciting and multi-cultural choices in dining experiences. The Next Picture Show, an art gallery, offers exhibits by many local artists. Groceries and shopping are available at several locations around town.
