Mostly positive

  • 4 of 5

The apartment at Juan Dolio was mostly positive with a few negatives. The positives were: the view, the beautiful well kept grounds, the swimming pool and the staff at Aqua Loft. The negatives are mainly because we have stayed at a VRBO in St. John USVI that is so amazing that it makes it hard to live up to. The apartment at Juan Dolio did not provide any basic supplies such as salt, pepper, paper towels and toilet paper. It took us awhile to figure out the air conditioning and the hot water. Also the ocean was not very clear so snorkeling was not an option and the surrounding neighborhood feels run down.

Owner's Response: Hi Della, Thanks four your review. I just came back from the condo and all the AC units and water heater are running fine. They received scheduled maintenance a couple of weeks before your arrival. I will ask the guys to check them again. I am sorry about the rough ocean. 95% of the time it is very calm and the water is crystal clear, you can see the bottom of the ocean while swimming. Manuel

nice view

  • 4 of 5

A large condo with a nice view

The sea was great . The people in the house were very helpful.

Some things had to be done in the condo. Against the sun there had to be some awhangs fixed.

The bathrooms are very dark and the water in the shower can not rinse

The mattress had to be softer. A toaster and a waterkettle is missing.

Beautiful Condo and Great Service

  • 5 of 5

Let's start by saying Manuel was incredibly responsive. Every email and question was answered quickly and completely. The condo was exactly as shown in the photos. Spectacular view from the main room and even a view from the showers! The beach, pool and grounds were impeccably cared for with plenty of lounge chairs and tables. Note that for us, it was important to have shady areas of which there were plenty. Finally, the kitchen was well equipped and it even had a quality gas grill on the balcony. All in all, a very nice rental!

LOVE Love Love IT

  • 5 of 5

This Place was Really Nice, front desk and security people were THE BEST EVER. It only costs 2 bucks to take the bus into Santo Domingo, great trip- just try to leave town by 5 so it's still light getting back. And remember Where the bus drops you off in Town .. when our bus from Santo Domingo dropped us off, after our day trip, Far from our stop In The DARK... Billy the Security guy showed up outta no where, to get us home safely... . The Apartment felt fresh and roomy (sleeps 8). gas stove, fridge, pots pans, dishes ,beach towels . bring your own shampoo & rinse. The beach is super secluded NO Tourists, we saw less than 10 humans the first 4 days, mostly locals , horse back ride people (10-15 $) . I also got a massage on the beach ($35- one hour )

Weekends (sat sun)The locals come over. They are polite and well mannered , Otherwise,This place is Quiet,Secluded & Peaceful, warm blue waters, pretty beach, tropical Breeze. The bunk beds are more comfy than the 2 queen beds...Day ONE...Our 12 year old ran into a Rock on the shore & stubbed his toe, really bad, lots of blood. This was our First experience with Billy the Security Guard Who Came to the Rescue, he carried our boy from the beach to the Lobby , applied Dominican numbing ointment & bandage. Billy The Security Guy Is Our Dominican Super Hero !!!! but seriously , please, especially the kids. WEAR WATER SHOES @ The Beach. I wore flip flops but for kids who run and can be distracted WEAR WATER SHOES . Manuel the Owner was Super communicative and Helpful . about boating excursions to another island for 50-75 $ per person.there are Laundry machines downstairs . BRING a couple laundry soap pods for yourself... there is good water dispenser in apt. and you can refill at front desk for 2 $.there is a way to make the TV be in English... ( my husband figured it out) there is a BBQ on the balcony. the front desk arranged a taxi who took us into town for groceries and Bank..$ 35 he accompanied us to both and we ate pizza with him at dominoes..( they eat chicken & corn Pizza).I know..ICK My husband was a good sport he ate some ... I slipped away for some coconut frozen yogurt..Rueben one of the friendliest front desk guys ever , just happens to be the artist of the Lobby paintings .... we brought home some of his work to remember our trip by. Over all THIS was one of the Best places we have been to . if you appreciate a Quiet secluded vacation without a lot of Noisy drunk tourists , This is the place.

We felt home at once!

  • 5 of 5

After a long trip from Europe with 3 kids, we arrived at Aqua Loft in the evening. We were welcomed by helpful staff and entering the apartment we immediately felt home. The apartment is well furnished, more than complete and kids friendly. The view is indeed spectacular and never bores. The facilities on the ground are also perfect: the swimming pool, the jacuzzi, the gym. If we wanted to order something from the local pizzeria or 'colmado' (corner shop), the staff helped us out!

We stayed for 2 weeks and Aqua Loft was our base for doing some day trips and visiting family. During our stay we have been in contact with Manuel and he as well has been very helpfull. For our next trip to the Dominican Republic, we want to come back to Aqua Loft!

An oasis paradise in Juan Dolio!

  • 5 of 5

Once we, enter the Aqua Loft we realize that we were in paradise! The view as you enter the lobby is beautiful, but the view from Manuel's Condo is spectacular with a huge wall of glass separating the AC indoor space from the huge lanai overlooking the pool, hot tub, manicured grounds, the semi-private beach and the Caribbean Sea! Each morning on the lanai you are greeted by bright, colorful sunrises and each day ends watching the amazing sunsets from the beach or your lanai. This is the place to relax, forget all worries and enjoy every moment.

Manuel and the staff catered to our every need and although we spoke very little Spanish and the staff was very limited in English, we managed to communicate without much difficulty. The staff kept the complex immaculate. Most of the condos are owned by families who work in Santo Domingo so we had the entire complex to ourselves during the week and some families would visit on weekends.

Some of the neighboring hotels and villas were abandoned but it doesn't affect the overall appeal. Once we became accustomed to walking to the small town center, we found it to be very safe and the locals friendly, you will find a large public beach and a number of fine restaurants, Da Qresta on the beach, and El Sueno, both specializing in seafood, Italian, steaks, etc. Also great for breakfast is a small place, La Terraza run by a chef from NYC. These restaurants are all reasonably priced.

Also a short taxi ride, 5 miles, takes you to another area of Juan Dolio where Club Hemingway is located with its restaurant, El Embaradero which is located out on a pier. There you can watch the sunset while dining. Across from Club Hemingway is an excellent Spanish Restaurant. These are two of our favorite restaurants in that area.

We suggest touring Santo Domingo and the 3 Eye Caves using Dominiccan Quest tours. They can also transport you from and to SDQ. We also recommend touring the caves of La Cueva de las Maravillas near San Pedro. Don't miss Luis Restaurant, a rustic outdoor facility on the beach in Playa Coson, La Terrenas, which is about 2 hours away on the northeast coast on the way to Samana. We had a 5+ lb lobster there that we picked out! It fed at least 3 people. Amazing!!!

We, 2 retired couples, vacationed in this 2 BR 2 Bath condo at the Aqua Loft for 2 months and we look forward to returning again!
