Overview

About the property

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

Great weekend getaway place

  • 4 of 5

Property was nice. Stairs were somewhat of a challenge. But overall was exactly what we were looking for in a weekend getaway.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you found the stairs to be challenging. This is a colonial era home and we find the 9 ft ceilings on the first floor to be part of the charm. That does, however, increase the climb. We are glad that otherwise the cottage was exactly what you were looking for in a weekend getaway.

We had a wonderful time. The cottage was so comfortable and well stocked with everything, such a personal touch in every room. The flowers on the kitchen counter really were beautiful. We loved our stay here.

Most Relaxing Weekend Getaway!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing weekend in this lovely cottage. It is so sweet and comfortable inside. Prettier than the pictures. We had 2 great dinners and enjoyed walking around both Gloucester and Matthews. The area has talented local artists and lots of galleries. Enjoyed the area and hope to visit again soon! Feeling recharged after a great weekend!

I stayed here while attending the Maritime Training Center for my job. Way better than a hotel. Very nice to have a place of my own while I was away. The owners were very helpful and took good care of me. Nice quiet location for the studying I had to do also.

Quaint and charming cottage on historical grounds

  • 4 of 5

The Middle Cottage made for a great respite from the busy holidays. It's warm, cozy and charming. Love the window seat! The upstairs bedroom looks and feels like a space out of a magazine. The historical cottage and the grounds make it ooze with character. To perfect the space, my only recommendation is more comfortable seating on the first floor to make for a great place to curl up with a book by the fire. Thanks to Peggy for the great recommendations nearby. Loved Gloucester Courthouse Main Street and LuLu Birds for a wonderful dinner.
