Overview

Tidewater & Hampton Roads Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

Beautiful accommodations. Property in quiet, somewhat secluded area minutes from quaint, historic town. plenty of places to walk on property, fish, kayak or just enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Historic Gloucester has specialty shops and fresh produce market. About 45 minutes from Williamsburg...easy day trip.

Hosts were extremely accommodating...providing for our every need...Just all around friendly people.

Lovely Cabin Set Amongst the Beauty of the Ware Neck

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to take a few days off over the 4th of July and spent 2 lovely nights at the Cottage. What an absolute delight...the Cottage was absolutely charming. Very cute, very up-to-date; all wrapped up in a wonderfully historic building and setting.

We couldn't have asked for a cleaner, more well-kept place; very comfortable. The hosts were also great; very welcoming, letting us use their dock to launch our canoe to explore the area...a very nice and welcoming couple.

While the weather one day was outstanding, the other days it was not, but it didn't matter. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, listening to the birds and the rain fall...and at night the stars were beautiful. The Ware Neck is a very quiet area, and though not far from Gloucester CH, Mathews, and Gloucester Point...when you pulled into the drive, it felt as if you were in a lovely place; warm, comfortable, intimate.

If you want to spend a wonderful time in a quiet--but very accessible area (about 60 miles from our home in Richmond). Very special. We heartily recommend this Cottage and will definitely return!

Simple Elegance

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for an easy weekend getaway. This property fit exactly what we needed. Upon using the app that was sent to us, we learned a great deal about the property including what we did NOT need to pack! Basically, all we needed were clothes and food, which made our weekend getaway all the easier. The owners have thought through most anything you would need to enjoy a respite away from it all by creating an environment of simple elegance. The cottage was clean and meticulously designed and decorated all the way down to simple, yet important details. We are water lovers and appreciated the use of the dock. It seemed everywhere we went to eat or shop, people were incredibly friendly in the area. We hope to return to this area of Virginia. If we do, this property will be our first choice. The pride the owners feel about the property is evident in everything including the customer service. Thank you for such a terrific stay.

Owner's Response: We would have to agree, the app is a wonderful thing and is designed to enhance your stay by providing lots of information specific to the property and to the area in general. It helps guests get the most out of their stay. Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We hope to see you paddle boarding on the river again soon!

A Quaint, Quiet and Comfortable Vacation Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I celebrated our 36th anniversary at this lovely Gloucester County cottage. We traveled to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Virginia Beach from here with no problems, yet enjoyed the peace and quiet back that mile long, old-time southern plantation lane at the end of the day. We appreciated the accommodations, that truly were like a home away from home. We had quiet evenings together in the cozy living room. Walked down to the dock at water's edge and admired the formal kitchen garden. I would highly recommend this cottage to others. Rick & Cherry Hess

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a fabulous weekend getaway at Glebefield. The property is gorgeous and the cottage was quaint, immaculate, and perfect for 2. We thoroughly enjoyed bird watching, fishing, kayaking, and just relaxing on the dock. John and Peggy were super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them. We also had a lot of fun exploring the nearby towns of Mathews and Gloucester Courthouse. We would love to go back!
