Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying 4 nights at this quaint cottage while visiting the areas of Richmond, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Being VRBO owners ourselves, we are very particular when selecting the places we stay. Peg and John's place did not disappoint! It is immaculately maintained and beautifully furnished with many conveniences provided...paper goods, wood for the fireplace, coffee and filters, laundry, bath and dish soap, towels, etc. The grounds are gorgeous and the owners were very generous in sharing the property with us. Peg and John were very responsive to any questions we had and offered great suggestions on where to eat, but also respected our privacy. We were able to have our 7 year old golden retriever stay with us as the owners allow pets, but you would never know that any animals had been at the cottage as it was so clean. It was clear Peg and John wanted us to enjoy our stay and we absolutely did! We would highly recommend this cottage and hope we will be able to return in the future.

Beautiful piece if land on the water. The Cottage was absolutely charming with loads of history.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 days and 3 nights at The Middle Cottage and wished we could have stayed longer. The place was clean, very comfortable and the owners a pleasure. We travel with a small dog. It is often hard to find a clean and as lovely a place as this when we venture away from home with our pet. The fact that the cottage is pet friendly was a definite plus.

We made sure we fit in some time to explore the property which was amazing. The potting shed and kitchen garden in the photo is delightful. We walked out on the dock and took a moment to take in the view. Fishing poles were set and ready for us to use; time was tight so next visit we will definitely find time for some fishing. Make sure you read the history on this place we found it quite interesting. Take time to check out the old out buildings while here... great piece of Virginia history. There are many things to do in the area check out the brochures in the binder. Antique shops, flea markets, Brent & Becky's bulbs is right down the road a must for all gardeners. Looking forward to our next visit.

Fall Fun at Glebefield's Middle Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at Glebefield in the Middle Cottage. The cottage was wonderful. Peg and John were responsive to our needs; yet respectful of our privacy. It was everything we expected and more--from kayaking in the morning to an evening by the fire. We would definitely stay here again. We recommend it to any looking for a quiet get away in the Tidewater region.

Great house in a quiet setting

  • 5 of 5

This is an ideal place to stay if you are in the Gloucester / Williamsburg area. It is on a quiet property and is still close to all the local attractions. The house is very well maintained and the surrounding grounds are beautiful.

Inside nice. Outside. Not as pictured

  • 3 of 5

The inside of cottage was nice and clean. No complaints.

However, the outside of the house is not what is depicted in the photograph. That building in the photograph is farther down the lane .

Our view was not of beautiful flowers but of a someone's home directly in front of us. The front yard is basically a pebble driveway. So if you are expecting to sit on the front porch and admire a flower garden and see the water .... not happening from the house you are actually renting .

Owner's Response: This is a large property with many spaces and buildings. As part of an old plantation there are barns, kitchen garden, and an historic icehouse. These are spaces for you to enjoy. We have pictured and labeled those structures so you will know what the property encompasses. I am sorry that you did not take the time to review the pictures and read the labels. The photos of the exterior of the cottage are clearly labeled and 100% accurate. I might add that 81 prior reviewers had a different experience than you did.

Perfect getaway (with dog)

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was fantastic - exactly what we were looking for! In great condition, very clean, well equipped, comfortable (lots of great reading spots). Location - just a short walk to the water - was idyllic and peaceful. Short drive to the town of Gloucester Courthouse, where we enjoyed a great dinner at LuluBirds Kitchen. And we were very happy to be able to bring our dog, who loved romping around the estate. We would love to return for another visit. Thank you!
