About the property

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

I had a great stay at this adorable cottage with my husband, two kids and cat. It was very well kept and a great location to all the local sights. The property was beautiful and we regret not having enough time to explore it to the fullest! It will give us a reason to return in the future.

Amazing, adorable!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing, adorable cottage! My husband and I had such a relaxing weekend with our pup. It was so serene and peaceful. All the little touches were amazing- especially some homemade honey! We are already talking about our next stay there.

PS. Definitely check out the Dog and Oyster vineyard about a half hour away! Amazing wine and beautiful scenery!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying 4 nights at this quaint cottage while visiting the areas of Richmond, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Being VRBO owners ourselves, we are very particular when selecting the places we stay. Peg and John's place did not disappoint! It is immaculately maintained and beautifully furnished with many conveniences provided...paper goods, wood for the fireplace, coffee and filters, laundry, bath and dish soap, towels, etc. The grounds are gorgeous and the owners were very generous in sharing the property with us. Peg and John were very responsive to any questions we had and offered great suggestions on where to eat, but also respected our privacy. We were able to have our 7 year old golden retriever stay with us as the owners allow pets, but you would never know that any animals had been at the cottage as it was so clean. It was clear Peg and John wanted us to enjoy our stay and we absolutely did! We would highly recommend this cottage and hope we will be able to return in the future.

Beautiful piece if land on the water. The Cottage was absolutely charming with loads of history.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 days and 3 nights at The Middle Cottage and wished we could have stayed longer. The place was clean, very comfortable and the owners a pleasure. We travel with a small dog. It is often hard to find a clean and as lovely a place as this when we venture away from home with our pet. The fact that the cottage is pet friendly was a definite plus.

We made sure we fit in some time to explore the property which was amazing. The potting shed and kitchen garden in the photo is delightful. We walked out on the dock and took a moment to take in the view. Fishing poles were set and ready for us to use; time was tight so next visit we will definitely find time for some fishing. Make sure you read the history on this place we found it quite interesting. Take time to check out the old out buildings while here... great piece of Virginia history. There are many things to do in the area check out the brochures in the binder. Antique shops, flea markets, Brent & Becky's bulbs is right down the road a must for all gardeners. Looking forward to our next visit.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed not only our property on the water but also local attractions like Brent and Becky's bulbs. We know that in your title "if property on the water" was meant to be "of property on the water" and was merely a typo. Unfortunately once a review is submitted it cannot be changed even for typos. We enjoyed hosting you and hope to see you again.

Fall Fun at Glebefield's Middle Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at Glebefield in the Middle Cottage. The cottage was wonderful. Peg and John were responsive to our needs; yet respectful of our privacy. It was everything we expected and more--from kayaking in the morning to an evening by the fire. We would definitely stay here again. We recommend it to any looking for a quiet get away in the Tidewater region.
