Overview

About the property

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

This was the cleanest rental house I've been in. The kitchen is well stocked. The setting is beautiful. Overall a great experience.

Nice time!

  • 5 of 5

We had a relaxing few days in this comfortable cottage, with access to the water and grounds like the garden pictured. Our hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating and eager for us to have a nice time, which we did.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this sweet cottage for 4 nights in August. Our new granddaughter lives 5 miles away and one of the days they visited us at the cottage and we had a family barbecue and hung out with our baby on the shady, breezy porch. My husband took a great kayak adventure from the dock. Peg and John showed true southern hospitality! We'll be back!

Another fabulous weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at this adorable cottage. We love the location on the water, and the convenience of having the dock to secure our boat. The cottage is cute, and Peg and John are wonderful hosts. We also enjoy the farmers market and some of the quaint shops in the old town.

We enjoyed our stay in your warm and friendly home. From the small touches, a gift of honey, to the garden and beautiful water views, we truly wish we could have spent more time there. Looking forward to return soon!
