Personal transportation is a necessity for this accommodation. While in the area visit Barkerville Historic Town, Cottonwood House, Wells, Bowron Lake Provincial Park, the city of Quesnel, Historic Huble Homestead in Prince George, UNBC, Exploration Place museum, Ancient Forest Provincial Park, 10 Mile Lake, and much more. There is an endless amount of wilderness to explore - hiking, canoeing, skiing, fishing, and snowmobiling.
We are 4.5 hours from Jasper and 9 hours from Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. We are two hours from the Bowron Lakes Canoe Route wilderness paddle.
We have been raising beef cattle and commercial vegetables for over 40 years and have had a U-Pick berry orchard for 12 years. We live in a log house on the banks of the Fraser River just 200m from our rental home.
In summer, there is an abundance of fresh produce and berries to share with our guests from our own gardens and over 1100 acres of fields, forests and river shore to walk and explore. In spring and fall, migrating flocks of geese, ducks, swans and Sandhill cranes fill the skies and fields. In winter, snowshoeing and cross country skiing on ungroomed trails will keep you fit. We are only a few kms. from extensive snowmobile trails.
We stay at the cabin for 3 nights and enjoyed it thoroughly. Cabin is clean, well equipped, very secluded and feel like home. Owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We even got a privilege to tour their garden, pick-your-own farm and even a secret swimming spot on Frazier river just steps from the farm.
We had just enough time to visit Barkerville (of all ghost towns we had ever visited this one is loveliest and most authentic), old grown cedar grove (about one hour east of Prince George, highly recommend it) and got a refreshing swim in couple of lakes and rivers nearby.
I would certainly give the property five stars.
My husband, two young boys, and I spent 4 days here and loved it! The cabin was very cozy. The woodstove warmed it well at night, the farm was beautiful to walk around, and there were sandhill cranes, black bears, and coyotes. Lots to explore in the area- we spent a few days in Prince George and went to Barkerville one day. The owner recommended a Persian restaurant which was fabulous!! Lovely place.
My husband and I loved how the cabin was completely private. Clean, well-equipped kitchen/bathroom. The walk to the river was fabulous! We have plans of returning by ourselves and/or with friends. Would be useful to have an outdoor eating option/area, but not necessary. All-in-all, an excellent place to get away to nature!
When looking for an out-of the way place to stay, this is it. You will have a Really Quiet stay while you are here. The nearby train can't be heard through the 12" thick log cabin walls. No TV or neighbors to interrupt your peaceful time either. Very rustic and unique log cabin.
