About Renee Saur

I am originally from Tennessee, but have lived in Houston for the last 23 years. I love the beach. I am happy to be able to share my find of this beautiful condo in a quiet area of Galveston Island with others who want a relaxing place to spend a few days, a week or even a month on the Island.

Renee Saur purchased this condo in 2014

Why Renee Saur chose Texas Gulf Coast

It is difficult to find a comfortable place on the beach (no roads to cross) with such a beautiful view in Galveston. This is the one! It truly is perfect. You can walk 15 minutes to the west to Stewart Beach or 40 minutes to the East to Apfell park or the end of the Island. Even walk to Beach Town and have Sunday brunch at the Porch Café!

What makes this condo unique

This is a perfect location to get away from it all or just a short drive and you can be riding the rides on Pleasure Pier or water slides at Schlitterbahn or long walks on these quiet beaches. However you like to spend your time, you will find it here.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I made a quick get-a-way to the island for the weekend. Renee was great to deal with and always available for questions. The condo was well appointed, comfortable and had an amazing view. The facility was also clean and organized with good amenities (pool, grills, picnic tables..). we will definitely be returning.

Great location and view on the quiet end of Galveston Island! Recommended, but with some qualifiers.

  • 3 of 5

The VRBO listing for this condo is accurate in terms of both description and photos. It is a small but well designed unit, especially for a building that was constructed in the 70's. The balcony view was great, and the location on the "quiet end" of the island are definite positives. Clearly, this condo is a very nice location alternative to staying on the highly populated multi-lane seawall stretch, which must be crossed in order to access the beach. That being said, however, there is a need for updating the a/c units and clothes washing machine because they are very loud. In addition to being loud, the bedroom a/c constantly cycled, blowing air directly at the head of the bed, with louvers that were not adjustable. It was problematic enough that we finally just unplugged it for the week. The other suggestion is that the sliding door unit to the deck appears to be original from the 70's and should be replaced. It is very hard to close and makes a loud whistling sound with any strong wind. Should those upgrades take place, this unit would have my unqualified recommendation as a very good condo with great location.

Owner's Response: I am glad you had a nice stay on the Island and that the condo was mostly comfortable for you. I appreciate your comments and agree that the a/c unit in the bedroom is nearing the end of it's life and I will have to replace soon. The replacement of the sliding door however is a $3K plus project that I am not sure will stop any whistling when the wind blows.

Ocean Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with this condo and with Galveston! Super nice, well appointed condo with amazing views. You can't beat being able to walk straight to the beach. We did not want to leave. We cannot wait to come down again. We will definitely stay here and make sure we stay longer!!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you had a great time. I have a hard time leaving when I visit as well. Please do come back in the future. I am working on re-arranging and putting in a sofa loveseat to give some additional comfort. Renee

quiet location, disappointing setup

  • 3 of 5

The condo is located in the quiet, east end of the Island. We had the beach to ourselves, which was nice. Getting to the main strip and historic locations was an easy, 5 minute drive. The condo itself faces the Gulf, which is exactly what we wanted. We had a great view of the water and could hear the waves from our 5th floor balcony. We were very disappointed to find the bedroom is at the back of the condo, which means you can't hear the waves when you sleep. There is only one door wall facing the water, but no screen door. So leaving it open at night only attracts bugs. We tried sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room one night so we could hear the waves as we slept, but the bed is extremely uncomfortable. This condo is a nice size for one couple, but too small for any more than that. Only 2 people can sit on the balcony at a time. We enjoyed our coffee every morning on the balcony. The condo building is quiet and gated, mostly retired couples from what I could tell. The condo we stayed in is nicely decorated and updated, for the most part. We cooked several meals in the small kitchen and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean and updated. The ceiling fans need to be updated ... they wobbled and hummed while running. There was no room in the one closet and dresser in the bedroom, so we had to leave all of our stuff in suitcases during our stay. The beach is huge, clean and flat ... great for long walks and jogging. But getting to the beach was a bit frustrating. Walking over the wooden walkway was easy, but at the end of the walkway was a low spot that flooded with algae-filled water ... so you have to either, walk through the swampy water or walk through the weeds. It did dry up after a few days though. I thought the price for the condo was fair.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, but I'm a little confused about your review. The ad does not make any claim to have a balcony off of the bedroom. 5 of the 6 drawers in the dresser were and are still empty. The closet is 6 feet wide and while there are a lot of things like chairs and sand toys on one side, the other side is totally open to hang clothes. The sofa bed has a memory foam mattress which is more comfortable than any other sofa bed I have slept on. It is still, however, a sofa bed and has those bars that run across them for support. Thank you for your comments. -- Renee

Car: recommended

Islander East is at the far east end of Galveston Island so the beach is quiet. There is no road to cross to get to the beach making beach access very easy. You are only a quick drive from the Strand, Pleasure Pier, Moody Gardens, & Schlitterbahn
