About Cathy Bella
We grew up in Southern California. My husband spent his summers in Bucksport as a kid working on his uncle's dairy farm. I've been a city girl my whole life with a passion for animals and fell in love with Bucksport the first time I saw it when I was 22 years old. We purchased the un-winterized 'camp' to vacation in summer before we purchased our first home! We built the new Cottage in 2005 in the same spot the old camp was located and plan to spend retirement years in the summer here.
Cathy Bella purchased this Cottage in 1980
Why Cathy Bella chose Bucksport
We chose this property because of the beauty of the lake, the wild life, close to town as well as close to Bar Harbor, Acadia, Deer Isle, Ellsworth, Bangor, Castine and Camden. We love the small town atmosphere and the closeness to larger cities for convenience.
What makes this Cottage unique
Fantastic views from the living room of the lake to see the loons, ducks, deer, turkeys, chipmunks, butterflies, birds, turtles, squirrels, an Eagle once in awhile. The setting is so peaceful by the lake, hearing the water, birds, and the sounds of nature. The view is breath taking and sitting outdoors to enjoy it is a favorite past time. Yet it is convenient to town for groceries and restaurants and so easy to get to Bar Harbor, Searsport, Belfast, Trenton and Blue Hill, my favorites. The house is a cottage, but with all the modern conveniences, modern kitchen, great master suite, front load oversize washer and dryer, internet, central vacuum, and a 65'' HDTV very private and peaceful -- a slice of heaven!

It doesn't get any better!
Lovely spot. Extremely comfortable and relaxing. Great location from which to access a lot of Maine sights and activities.
Would return in a heartbeat.
Beautiful property. Definitely would go back
This property was absolutely perfect for 4 adults. Centrally located to every attraction. Beautiful lake that you wake up to every morning. Very quiet. We loved every day of our 6 nights we were there.
I want to say are stay was fantastic, It was everything and more. Grand kids enjoyed the pond and fishing, all the attractions where with in driving distance. The only thing missing was a picnic table, But we made do sitting around the fire pit. I definitely would consider staying here again.Thank you.
Beautiful, secluded home!
Nice home with beautiful surroundings. The owner and property manager were very helpful. Home was well stocked, kitchen had everything needed for a proper lobster boil. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Excellent lakefront retreat!
We (parents, grandparents, and one grandchild (2.5 years)) fell in love with this property immediately!
The first impression was that the cottage was immaculate! The layout was perfect with three bedrooms and a large central room for cooking/eating/socializing with a beautiful view right out to the water. Whether we were sitting in the living room, on the back deck, or out on the dock, it was so peaceful. We also appreciated the conveniences of a fully stocked kitchen (EVERY kitchen tool imaginable. Literally), laundry, and Wi-Fi.
The water was very clear and my two year old loved being able to see the fishes swimming by and that the water was shallow enough that he could wade on his own.
Relaxing week away
The cottage was much more than I had expected. It was clean and comfortable - the lake was right outside and provided hours of entertainment. I enjoyed being a bit away from the crunch of Bar Harbor but still within driving distance to Acadia and surrounding areas. The loons on the lake and the quiet of the area were wonderful for unwinding. The only complaint I have is that the WiFi was unreliable. For those of you wishing to unplug and relax, this is not a big deal. I would highly, highly recommend this cottage.
Thank-you for the positive review. We have had no complaints so far on the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi works well for laptops, computers, tablets, I-Pads, etc. and we have had exceptional results. The code and password have to be entered into the device for it to work properly, and the code and password are displayed. Mobile phones with AT&T and Verizon service work the best using the Wi-Fi. Maine has a lot of dead spots and many other service providers do not work well in the State of Maine or at the cottage.
The town of Bucksport is on the Penobscot River that feeds into the ocean and is in a central location and easily accessible to Acadia National Park , Bar Harbor, Deer Isle, Camden, Castine, Belfast, Blue Hill, Searsport and Ellsworth, and Bangor (airport) are within a 30 - 40 minute drive. Easy Access to many touristy activities and beautiful rocky rough coastline in these various areas. This geographic area is called the Down East area of Maine.
Bar Harbor has different types of cruises (whale watches, puffin, lighthouse, etc.) restaurants and unique shops, art stores, wonderful ocean views and so much to see and do there, something for everyone. Acadia National Park has hiking trails, biking trails, fantastic views from Mount Desert Island and Thunderhole, a rock formation that sounds like thunder when the tide rushes in and out. Excellent lobster, and seafood restaurants! There is so much to do and see around this area!
Bucksport has a lot to offer as well. Fort Knox is an interesting tour, the Observatory on the Penobscot Bridge has incredible views over the large Penobscot River and Ocean, my favorite is walking along the Bucksport waterfront and marina near main street, listening to the weekly bands, the restored 1920's quaint Alamo theater for a movie , a brew and lobster roll at the Monks, shopping at Huckleberries and the Lighthouse Art Shop, the book store, Stubborn Cow stained glass shop, or the wonderful restaurants downtown like MacLeods, Warrens, and Glenns. Bucksport has every convenience, grocery store, ATMs, gas stations, a few fast food restaurants, etc. The local ice cream shop, Dairy Port is a must. The Bucksport Golf Course is 3 miles away, the fish hatchery is about 7 miles away. Don't miss the legend and lore of the witch burned at the stake and haunted Colonel Buck by leaving a heart and boot on his tombstone!
Bucksport has a Regional Medical Center that can handle medical issues. The nearest hospital is in Bangor, Maine.
